Review: Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me - Tahereh MafiUnravel Me - Tahereh MafiIgnite Me - Tahereh MafiUnite Me - Tahereh Mafi

Goodreads summary:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

My opinion:

I really, really liked this series. After I saw some reviews I wasn't sure if it would be worth it to buy it, so I borrowed it from a friend (I'm glad I can haha!), but it was really good! I don't think I will reread it though, because then I wouldn't be as hooked as I was now and the things that happen will stay with you.

There were only two parts in this series that were slow for me and also not that great: the beginning of the second novella (2.5, called Fracture Me), because that was just a recap of the last part of the second book, but then in a different point of few and it seemed pointless to me. However, I liked the 1.5 novella and the last part of 2.5 is still really important, so if you're going to read this series I highly suggest to read the novellas and even read them in between the novels (just as they'e supposed to). If you don't read them you will miss out a lot in the upcoming novels.

The second part I didn't like that much was the first third in the second novel. That part was really slow and a bit annoying, but after that it got much better.

While I was watching some reviews I saw that some weren't that found of Juliette, but I really liked her character development oh and that Adam vs Warner thing: why do readers still choose between a triangle in a dystopian series? That's not the most important thing that happen in dystopian series haha. Ps. I liked that part of Juliette as well.

Overall this was a great and unique dystopian trilogy and if you haven't read this one yet but still want to read a dystopian series: please read this one! I love the unique aspects and plottwists a lot (and the writing style, I can't even!).

Now I'm not so sure which dystopian series I'm going to pick up next (whenever I'm in the mood to read one), because I've read all of these: The Hunger Games, Divergent, Chaos Walking, The Darkest Minds (didn't like TDM that much) and this one and I have no idea what to read next. I'm not that interested in The Maze Runner or Uglies (convince me if you think I should).

What is your opinion about the Shatter Me trilogy?

By Tahereh Mafi - Unravel Me (Shatter Me) (12.1.2013) - Tahereh Mafi

Warner is the only saving grace with this book. I hate how Juliette was treating him & I hate how she kept leading him on. The love triangle is unnecessary, Juliette just needs to make a decision which she's not capable of doing. I just don't like her. I'm so disappointed that I'm not liking this book series that's been so hyped up.

Reading progress update: I've read 54 out of 461 pages.
By Tahereh Mafi - Unravel Me (Shatter Me) (12.1.2013) - Tahereh Mafi

Hmm.....this series is like X-Men. Juliette is Rogue, Castle is Professor Xavier, Omega Point is the mutant school he runs, while they all hone their skills while hiding from the outside.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Unravel Me - Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me #2

Unravel Me is the second book in the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. I read Shatter Me back in August and I really liked it. Tahereh Mafi writes beautifully, I really like her style, really simple but beautiful. It just seems so real, as if Juliette was really writing the book. I also have to say that the love triangle did not annoy me that much.. and that's a lot given the fact that love triangles always get on my nerves. This love story between the three characters seems more real, closer to what could happen in real life than others love interests I've read in many books. That made me happy!

This book was much more detailed than the first one. We got to see a little bit more of the world Juliette lives in. What I really liked about it, is  that we discover the world when Juliette does. She has been imprisoned for a long time and she does not know what was happening in the outside world.. and we discover it with her! It may sometimes be difficult to understand due to that fact, but again, it makes it more real!

I really don't know what to think about Warner. He's a jackass, that's a sure thing, but just like Juliette, I'm really confused about his intentions and his feelings. Who is this guy? He's so mysterious. I want to know more! And I guess I don't have to say that I adore Kenji!!

Overall I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading Ignite Me (and the novellas as well!)

Have you read this series? What did you think?

Thanks for reading,

Unravel Me
Unravel Me - Tahereh Mafi

The only positive thing I have to say about this book is that it released me from my curse of having to finish a Trilogy once started. I just could not finish this. I tried, but no. Just no.

I decided instead to read the spoilers from other reviews and I am so, so, so happy that I freed myself from this nightmare.

In case you are wanting to try it anyway, just know what you are getting into.

- Extreme purple prose

- Love triangle

That about sums it up. The rebellion is just a backdrop for the two things above.
