Again
You’re the One I Don’t Want - Carrie Aarons

This is book #2 in The Tenth Girl series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader understanding, and too avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Annabelle is on the verge of getting everything she has worked so hard for.  The only thing that seems to be stopping her right now is the mad feelings she has for her ex-boyfriend who just moved back to town.  Can she move past it when she sees him everywhere?

Boone cannot get past the fact he literally ran into his ex.  She left a scar he is not sure he can get over.  He needs to concentrate on his new job.  Easier said than done.

The characters just bring the heat!  The sparks are jumping all around these two.  I absolutely loved the heartfelt emotions that these characters showed.  I loved that they learned to talk and more again.  I really thought this was a good book and a stunning addition to an already amazing series.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Treasure trove? Don't quite know yet.

There are about 20 boxes of books in the workshop.  I know some of the boxes contain old westerns and there's at least one with old science fiction/fantasy/horror.  By "old" I mean pre-1990.  I already know where there's one with old mysteries.  The rest are general fiction, some non-fiction.  I haven't touched any of them, except the one box of mysteries, since moving here 12 1/2 years ago.

I don't know why I didn't think about the gothics until 2:30 this morning.

Most of the boxes are relatively inaccessible.  I'd have to move other things out of the way to get at them.  Only two boxes are out in the open, one on top of the other.  The one on top -- a copier paper box -- is starting to fall apart.  When I lifted the lid, all the joints came open.

Inside that first box are between 80 and 100 gothics.

Yep, the first box.

The books are dusty, so I'll have to take a couple of rags out there and clean them up.

Disappointments, discouragements, and . . . those other things.

We have storms predicted for tomorrow, so the president of our artists' group cancelled tomorrow's show.  This was probably a wise decision because even with only a 50% chance of rain, the venue is EXTREMELY difficult for setting up and tearing down.  Better safe than sorry.

So that's the disappointment.

Like many of the rest of you, I've been very discouraged by current events.  There are those who say, "Oh, just read a book and you'll forget all about it."  Um, no.  Though I am one of the very, very lucky ones who can say I've never been sexually assaulted, there are other kinds of abuse that leave long-lasting scars.  I've lost a lot of sleep the past few weeks.  In spite of that, I actually did some writing yesterday, the first serious writing (even if only a couple of paragraphs) I've done in ages.  I wish I could maintain some momentum.

That's the discouragement.

Our community has a little monthly magazine called Superstition Living. It features pretty pictures and lightweight articles on investing and gardening and health, along with recipes and the occasional poem.  October's edition arrived in today's mail.

The cover photograph is by Jack Olson, a member of our artists' group.  The scene is a composite including the Mining Camp Restaurant, a local restaurant that burned to the ground a couple years ago, with Superstition Mountain in the background.

Normally I glance through the pages to see if there's anything about the art group -- the article on page 7 is about our now-cancelled show at the Olive Mill -- and to look at the pictures.  There's really nothing on the Table of Contents page that would catch my eye otherwise.

Except, except, except that little photo on the bottom of the page.

What drew my eyes there?  I don't know.  I just don't know.

Ms. Messamore is not a member of our group.  I don't know her, have never heard of her before.  There's nothing about this little picture or the fine print next to it that would have caught my attention.  Yet something did.

In case you're interested, here's a link to the shop she's referencing.  It looks pretty cool, doesn't it?

But I really don't believe in omens.

Do you?
