This is what is in my head - and I'll probably shelf any idea of travelling to Australia for a while.
Mutated earthworms? I wonder what the earthworms under all those nuclear power stations (especially the problem ones) look like.

Picture giant "sand-worms" that people can ride across the desert like a bus. We're talking several metres in diameter.

Oh, man. Here I've been grumbling about the moles doing a number on our tiny strip of turf/lawn and now I'm picturing huge worm tunnels and castings. Are we talking too much of a good thing when it comes to aeration and manure?

ROFLMAO... put us back on the list! Koalas! Wallabys! Platypuses!

Our Gippsland Giants aren't at all Dune-worthy, I promise. As Stewart mentions in her book, they are actually extraordinarily fragile and often die very soon after being exposed to the air, so they are rarely seen (just heard, lol). And while they are 3 meters long (the Gippsland ones) they are very skinny.

That Digaster that gets as thick as a garden hose gives me pause though... but that's New South Wales. ;-)

@Person of Interest; As far as I understand things, they are very appreciated in Gippsland and don't cause any problems. I don't know that anyone has ever really seen much in the way of their tunnels; Gippsland is pastureland more than agriculture so not a lot of digging, I suppose. They keep themselves to themselves. :D

Alright, furry mammals for the win. ;)

"They keep themselves to themselves."

Wish I could say the same about the moles. Sounds like the worms would definitely be an improvement.

@BT: Moles vs. Homeowners = tie. :) I'm worried they're in a huddle discussing their game strategy at this very moment though, and I refuse to give up without a fight! Soft and furry only gets you so far, damn varmints!!

I now have "I'm alright" stuck in my head. :)
