Ok - Thanks. :)

Also - looks like Sam Kean has a new book out - woot! I'm adding it to the voting list based on the popularity of his other titles.
I'll put the space back in - I didn't know if there was a formal rule for it or not and since the cover differs from the publisher's site, I was hoping for a rule. :)
I'm for the inclusion of history related to science and feel a relaxed approach to book suggestions is fine. Group votes should weed out books the majority of people aren't interested in reading. :)

ETA: After looking at the other discussion thread, I guess the folks who already weighted in want a narrower scope for book suggestions? Hmm, okay. :) I'm primarily interested in the biological sciences and probably won't join the astrophysics, physics or chemistry related reads anyway.

He does! An arc is on the way to me.
I'm for allowing history of science on the list, and letting the voting take care of whether we want to read it or not.

Got an out-of-the-blue email from Little Brown & Co., offering it to me. Said yes immediately.

I don't think it's necessarily a narrower definition - at least I don't think so - I think, at least for me, I can see how it can turn into a slippery slope though, without some sort of clear guidelines.

To use an example that is not on the list, The Girls of Atomic City seems on the face of it to be a book about science and the race for atomic supremacy, but having read it, I can say it's only about 10% science and 90% history. It's a decent book, but those looking for science would possibly be disappointed.

I'm trying to go through all the books in our voting list and make sure they all have full summaries so members voting on books get as much information as possible - I figure the votes themselves will sort out the rest.

It's times like these I hate living in AU - not that I'd necessarily be getting any offers like that back home, but here my chance is 0. The publishers here all seem to rely on contests for distributing (printed) arcs, unless you're on some super secret list of theirs.

The goodreads cover is the cover that my book has. Author name has a space.

Try living in a country where the post office tries its best to imitate a black hole. All my stuff has to be specially couriered.

Which country are you in?

South Africa.
Ok, something new has been learned today:

The ballot list here on this group only holds a total of 50 books. It seems if you try to add more than 50 it removes the books with zero votes. Presumably (I'd rather not test it) if there are no books with zero votes it will remove the books with the least number of votes.

So, please keep this in mind if you're thinking of adding new book. As we select books, they'll come off the list and make room for new ones, but in the meantime, please let us take advantage of the hard work Themis-Athena has done putting together the BookLike list for The Flat Book Society that can be found here:
http://booklikes.com/apps/reading-lists/799/flat-book-society-reading-list

We can use it as a master list and it will hold as many as we'd like it to. Just place suggestions for new books in the list comments. :)

FWIW, I've added the books that I've seen come up in discussion here in the group more recently to the list that I created -- but if I've missed any, please do let me know.
