Let your fellow members know what you are planning on reading, or propose a buddy read here!
I think that Themis & MBD are planning a leisurely read-along of Martin Edwards The Golden Age of Murder, which I will probably join once I buy it.

I am also going to start The Crime at the Black Dudley by Margery Allingham sometime next week.
I own Murder of a Lady by Anthony Wynne, and would be up for that one. There also seems to be some interest in Israel Rank.

Yes, we are and we'd love to have you join us - the more the merrier! :)
I can do 10/5 through 10/7 for that one. It will work out well with my bingo!
Hoping I get the copy of Murder of a Lady that I ordered two days ago by Oct. 5, count me in for that one as well. ETA is supposed to be Sept. 27 - Oct. 2 ... here's crossing fingers ...

And, yes, definitely, the more the merrier on The Golden Age of Murder!

I'm planning to read The Crime at Black Dudley for my "country house" bingo square, too. (Well, that or Brat Farrar, but Allingham definitely is a priority.)

@Tigus: Count me in for Wentworth (The Clock Strikes Twelve), Edgar Wallace (The Four Just Men) and Simenon (Piotr the Latvian), too.

@All: I just had a madcap idea. Edward's Story of Classic Crime has 24 chapters. A bingo card has 24 + 1 squares ...

No time limit and no bingo calls, but maybe a square for each chapter (with the sole requirement that the books read must have been mentioned in that particular chapter) -- just for fun?
That is a madcap idea! I love it! I'd be happy to put a card together in the next couple of weeks!

Oh now you've gone and done it... Now I HAVE to buy more books. When my cats come and ask why there's no food in their bowls I'm going to tell them it's because Themis-Athena came up with a brilliant idea and I had to use their food money for books.

Of course I'm kidding... we'll starve before the cats do. ;-)

Needless to say, I'm in. Mysterious books is going to have a good quarter.

I suggested elsewhere that the BBC might take us on as mystery adaptation consultants ... maybe we could squeeze in a sideline as Mysterious Books / British Library advertising consultants as well? :)

FWIW, I wouldn't play this bingo for wins, bragging rights or anything of the sort -- it just struck me as a fun way of keeping track of that impossible deluge of books that is undoubtedly going to hit my TBR once I've compiled the final Edwards reading lists and done my systematic cull from them.

Wouldn't want anyone's pets to starve, of course ...
I'm going to treat it as an entirely open ended bingo! No rush, no hurry, no calls, no competition!

Well, as I said above, the cats will never starve - MT and I know the social landscape of our home well, and we rank just above the chickens and just below the cats, lol.

I don't know if Mysterious Books would buy the advertising angle, but I'm definitely hoping for bulk discounts. :D I'd love it if they did consult with us though - their lists are good, but often too heavily skewed towards hard-boiled titles, a direct reflection on their staff demographics, I'm almost certain.

This wouldn't be a competitive bingo for me either, but an excellent way to sample all the different kinds of Golden Age Mysteries in a fun but still methodical/organised way. Otherwise, the lists will get overwhelming (for me).

Exactly. Hah -- I'm loving it already!

October 15 sounds good!
Heh...does Pietr The Latvian go by something other than Pietr-le-Letton in French? My library has an English copy (which would defeat the purpose of me reading a French book) but I can't find a French one. That title isn't mentioned in the "Les essentiels de Maigret" (The Maigret Essentials) omnibus that I did find. It starts with "Le charretier de la Providence, 1931".
Need help?
