Yesssssssss I AM IN
HEY!
I'm here. :)
Hello?
Hello!

So now the Hogswatch elves have delivered, what do we do with our shiny new group? Rogue buddy read if the Halloween Bingo group read should (shockingly) not end up being something by Pratchett? Bi-monthly reads? Any other ideas?

Bi-monthly would work for me, but I'm easy on any other ideas.

How are we going to select which books? In order or drawing one at a time out of a wizard's hat?

Hmm. Let Hex do the deciding (i.e., random number generator)?

I've been trying to read them in order by subseries, but so far have only gotten through all but the last book in the Witches series, plus The Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic. However, I'm so happy to have a group to share my joy of Discworld with, that I will gladly abandon this plan for however y'all want to do it.

EDIT: I've just seen the "suggested reading order" from the Terry Pratchett site that's posted on the "knowledge" thread, and I love this idea. That way, it mixes up the books and characters to add a little spice of randomness, but still keeps a certain amount of order so that we get the most out of the books as the newbies among us build our Discworld knowledge. A managed chaos approach, if you will.
I've read most of the books (all except the last two, one Tiffany Aching that I somehow missed, and The Last Hero because it looked like something that wasn't part of the regular series) and reread most of them as well (I've been a fan since I was a teenager). My current reading project is to reread all the books in chronological order, picking up the ones I missed until I *sob* get to the last book. Partly to delay the inevitable and partly because I'd never actually read them in order. I've gotten up to #26 Thief of Time that way, although I haven't been keeping to it very regularly.

I don't mind throwing in some extra rereads though, especially since I have a good number of the books on audio as well. Probably the first book we choose to buddy read should be a rogue Halloween read, but since many of the books fit many of the squares we can always do other side reads.

Every couple months seems like a good "schedule", and we can always bend it as we see fit.

Agree, I'm fine with re-reading some that I've already done, and if we decide to go in some kind of order, we should make exceptions for rogue reads that fit in ongoing bingo games.

Also good with every couple of months. They're mostly short books & quick reads, but I have to fit this in with my other reading activities.
I haven't read anything by Terry Pratchett, so I have no idea if I will enjoy the books are not. They sound great, though, and I can always use a bit of humor in my life! I'll give them a try, and see if I want to continue.

I do own a few that I bought on sale - looking at the graphic, I have the first three books of the Death, Rincewind & Witches sub-series (Mort, The Color of Magic, Equal Rites), and then the next two books of the Rincewind subseries (The Light Fantastic, Sourcery), and Small Gods, which seems to be kind of out there on its own. I also have the first Tiffany Aching book, The Wee Free Men.

It doesn't sound like reading in order is crucial to the enjoyment of the books.
I'm more than fine with re-reading. Been meaning to re-read the series for awhile. So whatever will work for me. Are we including the short stories, the Sciene books, graphic novels, and the books like the Poo book?

I'd be inclined not to include the companion books and graphic novels officially, but leave them as potential side reads because they may only hold interest for a subset of us.

I generally say that you're bound not to get everything out of a Discworld book until you've read it a couple of times, and it's amazing how entertaining they can still be on the fifth go around.

Aside from the Bingo reads (since you can jump all over on those), why don't we start with the first in publication order, The Colour of Magic? As Portable Magic commented, that mixes the characters up a fair bit for people with different tastes, and it allows you to see the Discworld's progression as it gets more and more fleshed out.
I'm game for whatever everyone else decides. I'm typically a read-in-order gal, and on my own I've been tackling (though not getting very far) the canon one sub-series at a time. I'm pretty much on par with Portable Magic's progress, above, though she's a book or two further along in the Witches series, and I haven't read the Light Fantastic yet. But I have read Mort, Hogsfather, Good Omens and Night Watch. Obviously, I've not been too fussed with reading in order with this series.

So I'm happy to go along with the consensus. This group is going to be the perfect excuse to work on collecting my favoured editions of the whole set. :D
