24 Hour Take Control Wrap Up

hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This read-a-thon is in conjunction with the March Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge. However anyone can join. All you need is a pile of books, an ereader or audiobooks released before March 1, 2016. The idea of this thon is to read only books from your TBR pile for 24 hours. You can choose to read during the daylight hours or you can get jacked up on Caffeine and go the distance. The idea is to have fun, reduce your TBR pile and make new friends.

So much for trying to catch as much reading as I could manage in this 24 hour time period.  My progress for this 24 Hour Take Control TBR Pile Read-a-thon can be summed up in one picture:

As much as I hate to admit it, there are times when you just CANNOT find time to read a single thing.  Some die hard readers say that you don't "find time" to read, you "make time" to read.  Well, I learned first hand yesterday that sometimes you just CANNOT.

Every time I tried to pick up a book, something else would come up.  I DID make time to read a bit before going to sleep yesterday morning after my shift and managed about an hour and a half before I realized I was passing out every other paragraph.

I made it three chapters into The Carriage House, approximately 36 pages.  After I woke up, I had other things to take care of, and then during what little free time I had right before heading into work, I just didn't feel the pull to read.

And when you don't feel in the mood to read, you just don't feel in the mood to read, so I worked on some blog posts and a new project.

And thus...

Maybe the next read-a-thon will be better.

Read-a-thon Summary

The Carriage House by Carla Neggers

36/362 pages

approx. 1.5 hours spent reading and maybe some scattered minutes here and there

24 Hour Take Control Starting Post

hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This read-a-thon is in conjunction with the March Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge. However anyone can join. You can choose to read during the daylight hours or you can get jacked up on Caffeine and go the distance. The idea is to have fun, reduce your TBR pile and make new friends.

And it starts!

Again, I'm not participating in this year's March Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge, but I am interested in this 24 hour read-a-thon anyway.

I know I'm not going to be able to read much during this time, but having a read-a-thon lurking in the background of my daily activities will, at the least, have me reaching for a book instead of just laying around, staring at the ceiling in contemplation.  Or something like that.

In my first post about this thon, I had listed the second and third Lady Julia Grey books as Read-a-thon Hopefuls--books I had hoped to start reading or at least read part of for this read-a-thon.  But due to some last minute shuffling and decision-making, courtesy of an IRL buddy read, Silent in the Grave ended up being reshuffled into April's Reading Assignment Challenge and now I've re-selected other books I might read for this thon.

Currently Reading

The Wavering of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa // 119/193 pages read

Silver in the Blood by Jessica Day George // 19/353 pages read

While I am currently reading these books, I'm actually more inclined to reach for my March My TBRL winner (listed below).  But we'll see how the day turns out.  All of these books have been on my TBR list for a long time, two of which I own, and one that is a library check out..

If I'm lucky I will finish one of these books.  Otherwise, I'll be content to manage a good portion of reading from any one of these three books.  At the very least, I think I should at least be able to get eight hours of reading in, even if it's throughout the day.

Read-a-thon Hopefuls

The Carriage House by Carla Neggers // 362 pages

Happy reading to everyone!

24 Hour Take Control TBR Pile Read-a-thon

I'm feeling another read-a-thon and I've also been considering the connected reading challenge that goes with it... though maybe for next year.  This time around, I'll just try my hand at the 24 hour thon, though I know I won't actually be able to read for all 24 hours.  I'm working the weekend of March 12th, and my brother will be coming into town as well, so at most I will probably only be able to finish one book.

  • Thus, that is my goal:  Finish 1 book

I'm being realistic here.  At most, I'll either finish a book I already started reading, or start a book and maybe finish reading it within the day.  Although, with a read-a-thon lurking in the background of my IRL activities, I'll at least consciously reach for pre-March 1, 2016 release books, and I will at least think about reading instead of piddling around.

I may or may not post updates throughout the day and if I do, they might be in 8 or 12 hour intervals.
