Blog Tour # 1 - DESIRED

About Desired:

Miranda March wears her extraordinary beauty like a mask to conceal her emotional vulnerability. A successful small businesswoman, she might appear to be in control of her universe, but ever in the back of her mind is the one thing that can yank the rug out from under her at any moment: Her mother who suffers from mental illness.

Enter handsome, sensual—and rich—Harvey (Tack) Tackett, a friend of a friend, in town overnight on business. The instant they meet, Miranda feels a connection that stirs her to break one of the rules she lives by—no foolish flings with men passing in the night. After a night of passionate lovemaking like she’s never known, profound emotions emerge. She believes the feeling is mutual. But Tack leaves town without so much as a call and she hears no more from him. As she struggles to overcome her disappointment, she learns her mother has sunk into a depression that calls for immediate attention. Miranda has no choice but to move Mom in to live with her. Her life will never be the same.

From out of the blue, Tack reappears. But it’s too late. Miranda is committed to her duty to her mother. Trying to have a romantic relationship with Tack or any man would be as hard as mixing oil and water. She has already tried and failed at that. Can she solve the conundrum and find a happy-ever-after with Tack?

REVIEW***REVIEW***REVIEW***REVIEW***REVIEW***REVIEW

Miranda meets Tack at an open house where she works.  The immediate attraction is sizzling between them.  Where the very live wire of interest and sexual spark is like a living thing between them.

She dutifully shows him the choices of condos.  Including the penthouse, where they stall for time and a bit of flirting.  She is overwhelmed by her feelings for him.  Very aware he is the type of man she can fall for, she steers the conversation more professional.

Tack surprises her by coming back later to tell her of his interest.  He believes they both know what they want so why not have it?  She worries it would make her seem cheap and easy.  She is supposed to work here, after all.  Yet it seems he does not want to take a "no" for an answer.

While they both feel the attraction and sizzle and turn up the heat between them - is there even a future for her with a man who is as wild as his nature?  Miranda has her own past with problems and family that drag her down.  Can the two of them see beyond the passion to what they could hold in their hand?  Both of the being hurt in the past has made them fear to trust.

A rich story with complex characters.  I loved the way the characters seemed to be fated to come together.  Good story and interesting start to the series.  I am eagerly awaiting the next book!  I give this story a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

She has always been a voracious reader. As a child, she participated in storytelling competitions. As she grew older, she competed in writing contests. At some point, she developed an ambition to write fiction, but life got in the way. She left Texas for many years and lived in four of the western states, a rich experience she’ll never forget. These days, she’s back home in Texas. She and her husband currently live in a small town not far from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Guest Post with Author, Anna Jeffrey

Post topic: Music

I enjoy music. Like many kids, I took piano lessons. I took guitar lessons. I took singing in school and was in the choir at one point. Though I’ve often thought of creating playlists to follow the stories in my books, I have never taken the time to do it.

Having said all of that, I would add that I’m unable to write to music. I know many authors are inspired by music. For me, it’s just too distracting, especially if there are lyrics. I do listen to CDs of sounds that are supposed to be soothing, such as ocean waves, gentle breezes, falling rain, etc., etc. And I have a couple of CDs of orchestra music that is supposed to stimulate your creative brain. Whether it does, I don’t know. All I know is my most productive writing time is early in the morning when there isn’t a sound. During those times, I’m able to become absorbed by what I’m writing. I can be totally in the moment.

Sweet Water - Anna Jeffrey Sweet Water - Anna Jeffrey Sweet Water is a well-written stranger in a small town romance. It is very angsty. I needed a tissue box by me the entire time I was reading it. Ms. Jeffrey does a better job of creating complex characters and showing rather than telling than many authors. She's also brought west Texas and its desolation to life here. The small town setting is filled with quirky characters that are generally believable rather than grating. I enjoyed this book. I would have given it five stars except for one thing: the resolution of the plot didn't work for me. I feel the events that end the story just don't flow naturally from what went before and I can't imagine them happening in real life. I'll explain why behind a spoiler tag below. Despite that one flaw, this is one of the best romances I've read this year. I became completely wrapped up in the story while I was reading it and the town seemed like a real place. I do want to emphasize again the necessity of tissues. The setting is desolate and isolated. The situation for most of the characters is nearly desperate. And I loved it.But ... I just cannot bring myself to believe the HEA. Actually it goes a little further than that. I can't even believe the events that create the HEA would have happened. The hero and heroine have parted ways (as they often do in romance novels). The hero discovers he cannot live without her, tracks her down and proposes within minutes of finding her. All standard for romance novels. The problem is that the author has written lifelike characters who would not do these things. The heroine has serious abandonment issues and has the most believable case of avoidant personality disorder I've ever come across in a romance novel. Avoidants DO NOT take risks with anything important (in this case it's both her job and her heart). She's already done exactly what I expected her to do: push him away before he can reject her then burned the bridge to make extra sure he won't track her down just to reject her. Or maybe get back together and reject her later on. She very effectively burned the bridge so I really couldn't believe he'd come back. And she really fears rejection so I couldn't believe she would take him back. At least not without therapy and there's no mention of it. Also as a minor quibble, she's described as having what seems to be an Executive Chef position at a country club in a small city. She has no degree, not even an Associates degree, and I'm pretty sure that would be required since it involves some management of the restaurant. I wish I could believe she got this wonderful future. Instead I saw her frying eggs at a denny's and going home to a dull but functional apartment to care for her Alzheimer's afflicted mother. For years and years until mom'm medical bills forced them into complete destitution. I was in need of a second tissue box after realizing this. I still loved the book. These characters really are so well written that even being flung into depression didn't keep me from loving it. Obviously it pushed some of my buttons. It may not resonate quite as well with other readers.

The Love Of A Cowboy - Anna Jeffrey Had this book rated @ 3 stars, then changed my mind & went back & changed it to 4 stars. If I'm being honest, 4 stars better represents the enjoyment I got out of reading this. Why? 2nd characters. This book makes me realize how much more I enjoy books w/strong 2nd characters integrated w/in it.
