Gavin finds out his wife has been faking it. They have just barely checked in to their marriage recently, and now Thea is checking out. She has asked him for a divorce, and he is unsettled by this. He truly loves her and wants to get back to the hot and heavy he thought they were.
Thea is fed up about it all. She is sick of being taken for granted. Sick of the other wives and girlfriends of her husbands team shunning her. Sick of her husband not wanting to be with her the way they used to. She wants to get back to the happy, but must first find what was lost.
Stories about married couples can be tricky. I loved that this one was not afraid to go there. Both characters really had to come out of their shell and be honest. The sexy times get lively, and heavy in the heat. The story is solid and the pace is steady. I loved that these MC's had to work for it. I really hated the female lead for about 90% of the book. I was so pleased I shouted when the storyline caught up with what I thought. Nicely played. I give this read a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
#2 A Books By the Bay Mystery
The whole town is getting ready for a hurricane that will change relationships. But also she finds the body of a man buried in the sand and then she helps Laurel get her dream job...reporter for the local paper. When they start looking into the robberies of all the homes near them, they discover some things and then share it with the local police chief, Rawlings, who she is becoming closer to. This is the book where we learn that her father is still alive and that she has a half-brother!
I did enjoy this book. Sorry for the spoiler on the brother, but saving the other things for you to find for yourself. I have also been reading them out of order, which doesn't hurt the story, but you can read it in order and then meet the characters (like the half-brother and family) correctly.
TITLE: The Six Secrets of Intelligence:
Why Modern Education Doesn’t Teach Us How To Think For Ourselves
AUTHOR: Craig Adams
PUBLICATION DATE: 2019
"Some people have something to say in any conversation and can spot the hidden angles of completely unrelated problems; but how do they do it?
So many books, apps, courses, and schools compete for our attention that the problem isn’t a lack of opportunity to sharpen our minds, it’s having to choose between so many options. And yet, more than two thousand years ago, the greatest thinker of Ancient Greece, Aristotle, had already discovered the blueprint of the human mind. Despite the fact that the latest cognitive science shows his blueprint to be exactly what sharpens our reasoning, subtlety of thought, and ability to think in different ways and for ourselves, we have meanwhile replaced it with a simplistic and seductive view of intelligence, education and the mind.
Condensing that blueprint to six 'secrets', Craig Adams uncovers the underlying patterns of every discussion and debate we’ve ever had, and shows us how to be both harder to manipulate and more skilful in any conversation or debate – no matter the topic."
Craig Adams 'six secrets of intelligence' are deduction, induction, analogy, reality, evidence and meaning. Adams provides the definitions and examples of the basic concepts and shows how this knowledge is useful in spotting and dismissing illogical statements. The second half of the book deals with the modern education system and how it fails to teach the trivium (grammar, logic, rhetoric). There is some interesting stuff in this book, but the organisation is a bit erratic with too much repetition and not enough examples.
So I picked up a bunch of Batman freebies. I'm not a huge Bats fan. I really only read him when Catwoman shows up because she's awesome.
DCeased is basically the DC universe vs. zombies. It's an interesting idea but I didn't find it particularly "must know what happened next".
The Batman Black & White series are short Batman stories. Somewhat Noir in feeling, sometimes by people associated with the cartoon series. An Innocent Guy is the best one because it actually uses something I think some villain should have done before.
The Batman Adventure one features Batgirl. It's entertaining, but Batgirl is drawn in such a way that she would have no room for a stomach.
(I believe most if not all, of these are still free for kindle).
