So this month was clearly "dark fantasy short story" month for some reason. This may or may not have something to do with the fact that I could read those in short burst on WoW loading screens. The fact that the longest book I read all month was World of Warcraft related is also connected to this, I'm quite sure.

At any rate, it was a slow month. I will cheerfully read any short story Rosamund Hodge writes, though, and I enjoyed the crop of them I sucked down this month. Well-done short stories are a weakness of mine, and it's nice to find someone who manages them so consistently without them reading too similarly.

September, though, is gearing up into a very solid reading month--the Halloween Bingo is going to be loads of fun, and I can't wait to scare myself senseless and watch everyone else doing so as well!

How did everyone's August reading go? Anyone else super ready for weather where curling up with a good book in front of a fireplace will be valid? Who else is doing the Halloween Bingo?

Dark World: The Surface Girl
Dark World: The Surface Girl - Kell Fril... Dark World: The Surface Girl - Kell Frillman Set in 2078, humans now live underground after an invasion by Aliens. Ruby is a curious 16 year old girl who after being brought up on her grandad’s stories of earth, is starting to question the way they live. Not happy that at 16 she is to meet the boy that she has to spend the rest of her life with and her role is just to breed. Reese has been her friend since starting school and although she knows it is wrong starts having feelings for him. Finding a set of unused tunnels she finds a young girl that has come from the top. This moment is the start of an adventure where she learns to face her fears and starts to grow in a brave and strong woman especially when she knows that her parents are in trouble.
The author’s descriptive writing makes the book flow with ease and you could imagine the world would ending up like that in the future . Throughout the book you see Ruby developing into a strong girl who will put her life at risk to help others. Adding suspense and action it was a quick read.
I cannot wait to find out what happens next and will Ruby and Reese may a go of it.

Dark Alpha's Demand (Reapers #3) Donna Grant
Dark Alpha’s Demand - Donna Grant

Talin exist to exact vengeance on the Fae for their wrongs per Death’s orders but things go awry when Neve captures his soul with just one look and someone sets to kill her and expose Talin as a Reaper in this sensational paranormal romance.

Talin’s plight catches readers by the heart and has them on pins and needles throughout the story as the chemistry between Talin and Neve burn up pages and grows ever hotter even though Talin’s knows that it’s a relationship that can never be.  In addition to the suspense of the forbidden romance, lots of expectation and excitement keeps readers on their toes as Talin discovers that he will have protect Neve from an unknown enemy, one that knows what he is and will stop at nothing to expose him and let me tell you that this story is full of surprises that makes reader’s hearts pound with expectancy as the well written and fast paced plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.

I don’t know what’s going to happen next but if Talin and Neve’s story is anything to go by, this series is going to continue to be an exhilarating and fascinating ride with some intriguing twists and I can’t get enough of it….when is the next book coming out?

Smoke and Fire: Part 4 - Donna Grant

Things are heading to an unwanted conclusion as readers are held hostage by the stunning events in this spectacular conclusion to the Smoke and Fire serial.

Emotions are running high and things just keep becoming more complicated as the plot thickens which keeps readers glued to the pages with suspense, excitement and romance in this fast paced conclusion with some stunning events taking place since the bad guys have a few new tricks up their sleeves.

Another fascinating Dragon King story that kept me hanging on to every work from beginning to end and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
