Book Review - Barely Regal by E. Davies
Barely Regal (Rosavia Royals, #5)Barely Regal by E. Davies
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The final chapter of the Rosavia Royals and they saved the naughtiest boy for last.

This book has themes of Daddy-boy link and mild Bondage and discipline.

A bratty boy prince needs: a firm but fair Daddy.

Prince Renford - Wren -van Rosavia is the youngest of the princes and, quite honestly, a brat. Barely 19, Ren is given the title of Commander of Roses by his father and it feels like a slap in the face. All his brothers are doing important work - learning to run a country, in the military, working on trade alliances, but what job does he get? Royal rose picker.

The only person who seems wholly on his side - and constantly in his thoughts - is Wren's Valet Thom Pierce. Thom is 16 years his senior and his firm hand and authoritative demeanor have always fascinated Wren. And as he got older those personality traits called to something in Wren's psyche like nothing else. Nobles and dignitaries his age did nothing for him, no matter how much his parents tried to make a match for him. And Thom saw in Wren the submissive tendencies and need for a firm hand that appealed to Thom's Dominant nature like no other.

But the scandal that would come from a prince and his commoner valet kept Thom from acting - the impropriety of it was unimaginable. But that didn't stop Wren because Wren decided he wanted Thomas and would stop at nothing to get him. However, as the Royal Ball approaches and all eyes are on the Royal family, scandal is the last thing they need, especially with an nasty paparazzi, a vindictive footman and Wren's older brothers causing enough scandals of their own.

But the heart wants what the heart wants and Wren and Thom are willing to fight for their relationship, no matter what others might think of it. In Thom's hands Wren is finally free and with Wren in his arms Thom is finally content.

This was a lovely final book in the series. All in all the five books were highly entertaining and a fun read.

Book Review: Exploration: Kinky in the City #1 by Quinn Ward
Exploration (Kinky in the City, #1)Exploration by Quinn Ward
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First time reading a Quinn Ward book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is NOT a hardcore BDSM book, this is more about domination and submission, a Dom being the caretaker and his boy being the one receiving all the care. And it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Frankie was sort of forced into taking over his family restaurant - it was the gift he didn't want. It leaves him feeling out of control and out of sorts, being responsible for his family legacy, and so he finds release in less than legal means in order to be able to give up the control his real life forces him to have. That and he's from an Italian Catholic family and he's gay so... coming out just hasn't been an option for him, and yet one more stressor to add to his life.

Calvin is Frankie's older, divorced roommate with a teenage son. Cal wasn't in the closet but when he was still trying to figure out his sexuality he got his girlfriend pregnant. They married and Calvin was a faithful husband and a good father. He and his ex are still close friends and they still love each other, they just both realized that their marriage wasn't giving either of them what they truly wanted out of life.

Now that he's single again, Calvin is ready to embrace being gay and ready to dip his toes into the BDSM lifestyle that has always fascinated him. So when he finds Frankie on his knees, sucking off a John, in the back of his friend's bar, a few things snap into place for Cal. One - he wants Frankie. Two - he likes seeing Frankie on his knees. Three - he wants to take care of Frankie, to be the one to give him orders to eat and to sleep and to take care of himself because he can see how frayed around the edges Frankie really is.

But Frankie's knowledge of the Dom/sub lifestyle comes completely from badly written books and titillating conversations his wait staff have, oh and maybe some late night porn perusal. So to say Frankie is nervous is an understatement. Frankie and Cal learn to navigate the lifestyle together, as well as balancing the needs of family, both their families, until a situation develops that makes them both realize that they don't want to hide who they are and who they love anymore.

I really liked this slower, gentler style of bdsm book, one that shows another aspect of the lifestyle that doesn't require tools and toys but emotional involvement, intimacy and trust.

Definitely an enjoyable read.

Breeding Kink with a side of Gender Politics.
Breeder - Cara Bristol
I swear, when I picked up Breeder in a recent Loose Id discount sale, I wasn’t looking for a deep story. I like breeding and slave kink stories. Many of them can be extremely problematic, rife with sexist stereotypes, misogyny and just generally poorly written. Still I continue to search, ever hopeful that one day I will find a well written stories, with all the kinks I love, that doesn’t make me cringe.

Enter Breeder by Cara Bristol.

The science fiction erotica about Commander Dak, and his breeder, Omra. They are Parseon, a very human like alien species who live in the quintessential Patriarchal society. The Alpha male masculine ideal isn’t just an idea, it’s the basis for the entire society. Dak himself isn't just an Alpha he is The Alpha Commander of his district. One of only a handful of ruling Alphas on his planet.

In accordance with Protocol, the social laws of Parseon culture, he has a male companion, a Beta, because another man (who is a lesser) can be the only suitable companion for an Alpha male. Protocol also gives allowances for the propagation of the species, and that is where Omra comes into the story. She is the breeder Dak chooses to “incubate his offspring.” Both their worlds are turned upside down when Dak starts to feel what is considered deviant desires, for Omra and starts to question the truth of Protocol and the very foundation of Parseon society.

While Dak without a doubt an Alpha male, he has a depth, compassion and intelligence that sets him apart from the cliche he’s based upon. We watch his facade of dominance and strength slowly fall away to reveal a man who feels the weight of his responsibilities and the strain of maintaining the unnaturally guarded state in every avenue in his life. Omra is a slave, there is no doubt about that, but she has a similar kind of empathy for others and intelligence, though she doesn’t credit herself for it. She has surprising dimension, and pragmatism, while she accepts the oppressive world she’s born into, she doesn’t like it.

It was so refreshing to see real people beneath these archetypes of the Master and slave. I especially to see safe, sane, BDSM play integrated into the story in a way that highlighted how different it is from the violent brutality of the real slavery in the world. It’s a tricky line to walk, but I think Bristol pulled it off with flare.

What stood out to me was how this story really shows how disparaging and damaging a patriarchy is to both men and women. Parseon is a misogynist’s wonderland, where women are chattel, and masculinity is the epitome of superiority in every way. While Alpha’s have male companions, who they have “appropriate sex” with, these are not portrayals of homosexuality. Which is such an important distinction to make.

The Alpha/beta dynamic in Parseon is similar to the mentor/boy sexual relationships of ancient Rome. They are not heathy relationships based on equality and love, but a powerful man using a less powerful man as a sexual object. (I’ve being trying to explain the difference between this oppressive abuse of power, that is essentially socially acceptable rape, and homosexuality for years.) There is no give and take. A Beta is always a bottom, and must comply even if they are heterosexual. In fact, according to Protocol heterosexuality is the ultimate sexual perversion. An Alpha should only ever engage in sex with a woman to procreate, in the hopes of producing a son. Proving that true homosexuality has no home in Protocol either.

Breeder demonstrates how no one is happy in this kind of society, aside from the privileged few, the Alphas. In fact, it is Omra who comes to this conclusion in the narrative, as she begins to better understand the politics of her world. Once Dak opens his eyes to this reality too, and understands that not all Alpha treat those beneath them with the consideration and care does he begin to see the true horror of Protocol (aka Patriarchy).

All of this, and we get some sexy Dom/sub play, spanking, and with a growling Alpha male overwhelmed by his intense desire to plant his seed. Not to mention more cunnilingus than I have ever read an erotic novel in a long time. I'm talking lesbian erotic levels of going downtown.

Seriously at one point Dak is so turned on by how wet Omra is, he literally rubs his face in her pussy. *cue me sliding out of my seat into a puddle on the floor*

If any of these kinks appeal to you, check out this book.

Dom/sub
Dom/sub - B.D. Dark,Roxy Harte How did it come to this? How did I let it get this far?The X-shaped crosses, hard cocks aching for sinister exploits , perfect mounds of brazen protuberances, the Shibaru-Kinbaku knots, piercing leather clasps, lavish dungeons and those explicit imagery of Yoo Ji-Tae from Secret Love. Was I searching for such lust when I entered the store? I knew the recognizable twinge springing through my warm body when I saw it lay amid the boisterous articles; the quintessential oddball. Was I truly prepared for the experience once again? The unbearable sighs in the offing for a consequential release; the chronic tapping of feet on the cold floor; was I geared up for all? The thought of constricted bondage enraging the power of an imminent DOM was more pleasurable than diamond fields and spouter whales. “Bashfulness is a fool’s play and carnal desire the game of the brave” said the effervescent estrogen. I quickly made a run for it before anyone could glimpse my restlessness. Ecstasy swayed in my cold perspiration. Do I wait till I reach my bedroom; I deliberated, or audaciously curl on the orange sofa right here. Why is that man staring at me? Did he sense my uneasiness, like a wolf vigilant at the hint of raw blood? Steve was a bit apprehensive too, until Kim liberated his inner dominance into a marvelous competent DOM. Kim was reckless or perhaps a passionate SUB who went to lengths to please her Master. The subjection of bondage and the rapture of throbbing pleasure pulling lustful bodies into a labyrinth of sexual supremacy shadows uncontested sanity. Kim yearned to be bound, caned and fucked so did Julia, who longed for a submissive control after her previous Master’s death. Did Julia find her Master who could bestow the gift of a mindless orgasm and was Steve fated to be captivating DOM prudent in his role of generating boundaries to a zealous SUB?"The vessel receives whatever is poured in it. It doesn't complain that the contents are too hot or too cold, but accepts what is given without question. The vessel then holds the liquid until the provider chooses to empty it again. It is up to the provider to judge when the vessel is full and to stop before it overflows, spilling and wasting the precious essence of life".A Dom/Sub can truly enjoy a consensual rewarding BDSM relationship when he/she adheres to responsible boundaries, safeguarding it from a callous sphere of violence. "Ma’am, can I help you with something?"; the strange man was few breaths away and audaciously gawking at my hand. "Is that all or do you want to look for some more?" More!!! He thinks I’m into some kind of perversion. Does denying to vote against pornography misrepresents your sexual intentions? If someone likes to be fucked wildly, well go ahead by all means as long as it does not involve a hamster molesting a cilantro. Politely, I excuse myself from his offered help and dash to the wooden desk hoping I do not see him again. Like a half-lit Marlboro waiting to be smoked, there is he again waiting for me with a bunch of questions. As I slowly unzip he blurts out, “Plastic or paper?” Excuse me! It’s a bag, you sillies!!! Subsequently, after paying for my purchase I zip up my purse and as I exit the bookstore all I have is an titillating erotica and a pack of Marlboro geared up to fill my fantasies with an alluring smoke.
