Fell short for me
The Exception (The Exception Series Book 1) - Adriana Locke

The Exception (The Exception Series Book 1) - Adriana Locke

*3.5 STARS*

I read the first in the series of the Landry family by this author recently and really enjoyed it.  There are only three books out in that series right now so I'm trying to spread things out some in the effort to not just gobble the series up.  Since Adriana Locke was a new author to me, I decided to see what other books were out and came upon this one.

Unfortunately for me, this series didn't quite live up to the Landry family.  The writing wasn't as good in my opinion, and the hero in the beginning of the book was so awful that it was hard for me to warm up to him.  And the plot had too many things going on and it seems things got dropped because of that.

Despite that though, I thought that the story had potential.  I did start to care about the hero by the end of the book, and some of the love scenes were really hot.

And while I think that I will go back to the Landry family for now, I probably will revisit this series again.

The Exception
The Exception - Adriana Locke The relationship and characters were ultimately shallow, but what I could not stand was the suspense was completely overdone. I will not continue the series.

The Only Exception (Incubus Rising #3) by Jennifer Mancini
The Only Exception: An Incubus Rising Novella - Book Three - Jennifer Mancini
The Only Exception is the third book in the Incubus Rising series, but can be read as a standalone. I haven't read books one or two, but this did not have any negative effect on my enjoyment of this book.

This is a fast-paced novella, that nevertheless manages to tell a complete story AND give a satisfactory ending. It starts off with a substitute teacher staying with a 7-year-old girl until she is picked up from school. Even though this was a Paranormal Romance, it was good to see a degree of realism in there too, eg. waiting for authorisation on the school list.

Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt from the reading flow, there are some steamy scenes, plus angst as they try to figure a way to be together. All-in-all, this was a short but satisfying read. Definitely recommended by me.

* I received this book from Book Review 22 in return for a fair and honest review. *

Is love strong enough?
My Exception (My Escort Book 2) - Kia Carrington-Russell,Ashley Patterson

This is the continued story for Damon and Clover from the My Escort series. This book can be read as a standalone, but for reader enjoyment I recommend reading this series in order.

Damon and Clover have been dating and working together.  They are very happy and totally in love.  Now, someone from Clover's college days comes to work with them and shows an interest in her, throwing off the dynamic that was created.

Hayden is sincerely a good person and has a history with Clover.  He knows her well, knows her family, and makes her feel positive about her life.  Damon is jealous of anybody who can be a threat to their relationship and takes this more seriously.

Clover is in love with Damon and does not see anyone else.  She is friends with Hayden, but honestly loves her man.  When rocky times hit their relationship it is a test of whether what they have is strong enough to get through.

A sincerely great story with honest and strong characters.  I was impressed with the sincerity and development.  It was a really great read!  I give this story a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

The Only Exception
The Only Exception - Magan Vernon DNF at about 20%

This book is just simply not for me. I wasn't feeling it and I read to relax and unwind from my busy life. I have no desire to read or know more about American politics than I do now and I just wasn't enjoying it and already grew tired of all the references to politics.

Stay clear of this if you hate politics but it may just be your book if you very much enjoy just that.

Either way, I'm out.
