Goddess, Inflamed (Goddess Connection #2) by Cate Masters
Goddess, Inflamed (Goddess Connection Book 2) - Cate Masters

I am so in love with this series.  I love the characters and the way the various other entities interact with them.  They are all brought into the modern world and to life with such amazing personalities and motivations.  Lily is a dancer - yes the exotic type that uses a pole.  But she doesn't do it just because it's a good way to make money.  The music calls to her and if she doesn't dance she will probably go crazy.  Her life changes on her 21st birthday when some very interesting men enter her life.

Brodie and Zev are about as different as they could possible be.  It's to be expected when one is an angel and the other a demon.  But they both want Lily.  She is a very special person with some tough decisions to make.  As her life is turned upside down, she is thrown into a spiral of confusion that was incredibly well written.  She knows what she wants to decide, she just needs to find the courage to do so - and stay out of all the traps set to keep her where she doesn't want to be.

There were lots of surprises in this book as her lineage is slowly revealed.  I loved exploring all the skeletons in the closet of Hades' and Persephone's family.  There are quite a few of them, and we all love a good bit of juicy gossip.  The end was a fantastic adventure with just enough action to get my heart racing paired with some wonderful moments of true love.

The characters in the series are so real, I almost expect to run into them on the street some day.  It just seems natural that they are a part of the "real world" and we just don't know it yet.

Goddess, Awakened (The Goddess Connectiong #1) by Cate Masters
Goddess, Awakened (The Goddess Connection) - Cate Masters

Joss is a very powerful woman, she she doesn't really believe it. When she buys an inn on top of a ley line all hell breaks loose. A demon has targeted the vet down the road and seems to be intent on harvesting some souls. Joss's power may be all that can protect the small town and keep it from being destroyed.

Joss was an interesting mix of confidence and doubt. She is sure that her inn will succeed and that her special recipes featuring lavender will be a big hit. On the other had, she doubt her family history and her strength to love again - even when signs point to Eric being the love of her life. But Eric isn't safe - he's been put in the middle of the battle between the goddess Isis and her family and the minions of hell.

I loved the mix of mythology in this one. Several more minor characters were mentioned and it was great to see them have even a tiny bit of the spotlight (I especially loved Tisiphone). There is a ton of adventure and there were times I thought Cate Masters wouldn't be able to pull off a HEA because things were so crazy. There is a pretty great battle scene that I couldn't tear myself away from.

What I like best about both characters was their desire to make life good on their own. They weren't necessarily afraid to ask for help, but they wanted to try and save themselves first. Now if only they could realize they also had each other.

ANTIGODDESS BY: KENDARE BLAKE
Antigoddess - Kendare Blake

I read Antigoddess as my first book club book with the fantastic ladies over at bookishlydelighted.blogspot.com. I have had this on my to-read shelf for awhile now, and was thrilled when I saw it would be the book of choice when I joined! And it did not disappoint, but it is from Kendare Blake so I really didn't expect anything less than amazing.

I absolutely love mythology, and am always game to read from authors who take that basis and bring it to a modern setting with their own personal flare.  I loved the way Blake put her stamp on this story. The gods are long past being relevant in this modernized world, add in the fact that they are also approaching the Twilight, which for them could mean an end to their existence completely. There is still a lot of mystery behind what this Twilight really entails, but it is slowly draining and torturing these once immortal beings and making them vulnerable to all sorts of things....even death. Of course Gods being Gods, they are rather adverse to seeing the end of their very long existence, and most of them are willing to do whatever it takes to stop this agonizing process.

It ultimately comes down to two different groups of gods, one side mad with the will to live and ready to destroy anything that is in their way, and the other side that are essentially the lesser of two evils. You can't quite say they are the "good guys" for they aren't your typical heroes. But when faced with impossible situations, they try to make the best decisions they can. You also get to see them struggle a little with their humanity and the repercussions to a lot of choices, some not very good, that they have made over the years. It's always fun to see that internal struggle in a character. It feels very relatable, for who amongst us has not made poor decisions or acted unfairly to others at one point or another? But you get to see that transition into actually taking responsibility and dealing with the regret and how it shapes the hard decisions they have to make now. The characters were so rich and multidimensional, it was a joy watching them grow and progress throughout the story.

There were many twists thrown in, and some pretty awesome battle scenes. I have to say that every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next, I was completely wrong. EVERYTIME!

This book never stopped keeping me on my toes. It was a great first book in what appears to be an incredible series. This was quite clearly only the beginning, and I can't wait to see where things go from here!

Sunroper (Goddess Rising #3) by Natalie J. Damschroder
Sunroper - Natalie J. Damschroder

Unable to regain her Goddess powers, but "gifted" with a different type of ability, Marley is out to make sure no one is given power that isn't already theirs. When they realize that another goddess must be giving away her power, she begins the hunt to find out who it might be. She doesn't expect to run into Gage, son of the leader of the newly discovered Numina group, also on the trail of the elusive goddess. Thrown together by mutual goals they never expect find out they actually like each other.

The third book in the series really brings all of what has happened in the first books to a huge and very climactic resolution. There was so very much going on all that at times I did find it a little difficult to keep it all straight. While Marley is trying (unsuccessfully) to hide her growing insanity, things take on a life of their own and the power starts to get out of hand for everyone. The last half of the book I really couldn't put down.

I loved that Natalie brought back all the main couples from the beginning of the series, it helped to tie things together and make the series seem extremely cohesive, it flows from one book into the next effortlessly. You know you've run across something great when the series ends spectacularly but you're still sad to see it go.
