The Great Good Thing by Roderick Townley
The Great Good Thing - Roderick Townley

I had no idea what this book was about when I saw it at the library and decided to pick it up. It's a tiny little book about a fictional princess living inside her storybook and wanting to experience something new. Of course, there's more to it than that. Including what it truly means to be a friend and trying to save those you love along with yourself.

I was really blown away by the sweetness of this book. It's what I like to call a "tender read." I really liked the writing style and the little nudges to our own world and how we live as readers. The characters were all quirky, entertaining, and fun to read about. It's a lovely little book and I highly recommend it.

Also, I had no idea this was a series until I looked into it more. Well, looks like I am going to have to get my hands on the other books once I go back to the library!

Excellent for James completists, however rather something of a nothing for others. I do like a bit of edge to my short stories

COMPLETED: Home (Hidden #3) By: Colleen Vanderlinden

Well I finished reading the last bit of the book and I will say it was good, however, it was not like spectacular. I will read the next one though as the author left it in a cliff hanger.

OK back to the story. So Molly still struggled with Brennan and the baby. However, not enough that she did not mind getting in a little action. I will say that the baby was suppose to be important to Brennan but he sure did not act like it. I just felt that there was no love losses there. I actually started to feel bad for the baby. I mean his dad did not so much affection, the mom put a spell on him, and Molly could barely look at him. Not once did Molly say, "gosh this poor child is a victim of his parents" and seeing as how she had a hard childhood I was hoping she would have been a little more soft hearted toward the child, even though she was mad at the baby's daddy (Brennan).

(spoiler show)

Ugh! And let me talk about that ending, I mean I am glad she found the witch and the demons but it was very anti-climatic. I just expected more of a BAM ending but to no avail.

(spoiler show)

The ending had me feeling kind of . I will read the next one, in which I hope things shape up. I also hope someone gives that baby some attention.

Also, someone tell Molly that most people who leave to protect cause more harm, at least it does in most other books.

Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas
Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas - Sarah Palin This could have been a good book, Sarah Palin notwithstanding, if she'd left out all the things she doesn't know anything about. Like politics, the history of Christianity, the intent behind the writings of John Adams, and the meaning of the phrase "deliberately offensive".

The parts about her family, where she wasn't changing dates, glossing controversies, or lying outright (seriously, 2008 was 5 years ago--we know what happened), are actually pretty nice. If she was just another person with the Christmas spirit, it would be a fun book. But she's a militant warrior fighting against the so-call "war on Christmas", and there's no way to forget that for more than a page or two. The made-up wackadoo political history "lessons" just don't leave room for the sweet family story buried between the lines.
