Inkdeath - Anthea Bell,Cornelia Funke

This series always makes me want to read. Which is convenient since I'm already reading... But it makes me want to keep reading forever. If you're having a reading slump, these books will probably help you out.

I also love the variety of well-rounded characters. Violante might actually be my favorite character, though she's not the conventional "good guy".

I did think it was tiring that Dustfinger died and was revived for the second time in this trilogy. That's a bit much.

(spoiler show)

I don't know. I waited too long to write this review. But I really enjoy this series and I definitely recommend them to fantasy fans and book fans in general.

Jilo - I put this down pretty early in the book, but I do plan on attempting it again one day when I am more in the mood for it.

A Safe Place with You - I stopped reading at 15%. This work could have really benefited from the work of a more experienced translator.

Wrap-up: I feel good about the number of books read this month. I had more free time this month, but I started writing again and after a twelve year hiatus, I took up the clarinet again. I've also been going out every Friday morning with Abby to kayak. So, while I had plenty of free time, I've been devoting it to other activities.

July Reading List

I don't have much of a plan for reading this month. I want to finish The Hobbit and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I expect to complete American Gods this month as well. I lost my reading-buddy last month and haven't really picked it up since. I can't remember where I stopped in, not having updated the reading progress in a while, so I might have to go back and refresh my memory.

June Reading List

I'm still reading The Bourne Identity, but after I finish I plan on jumping into the Inkheart Trilogy. I'll be reading the illustrated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and I'll also be reading Parrotfish this month. Parrotfish was recommended to me by someone, though I can't recall who. I expect to read more books this month, but I don't have the rest of the months reading planned out yet.

Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
Inkdeath - Cornelia Funke

Mo, Meggie and Resa are still in Inkheart. A lot has happened; Mo is now known as a robber called the Bluejay, Dustfinger is dead and the Adderhead is almost unstoppable now that he's immortal. But it seems there is even more chaos and bloodshed is to come before a happy ending is ever in sight.

I first read Inkheart in 2009 and just loved it. I finally got around to readinf Inkspell last year and remembered why I loved the first book so much. The second book was just as good, but it took place in Inkworld instead of our own.

And finally, I have now finished reading Inkdeath. I'm not totally sure what to say. But there might be some spoilers so read no further if you haven't read this book yet.

It was intense and I think even darker than the previous two books. There are points in the book where everything feels hopeless; where you feel the villains may just win after all. And the horrible, horrible things the villains do. It's just terrible.

And I felt that the characters developed even more in this book. I enjoyed Farid in the previous two books, but not this one so much. I think that Dustfinger is a father figure to Farid and Dustfinger cares about him. I understand Farid being upset about Dustfinger's death, but he and Meggie are supposed to be in love. And there didn't seem to be much love coming from his end, especially when he mentions kissing other girls. I think he was different in the other two books and he did seem to love Meggie, which is why I liked him so much. But in this book, all he cared about was Dustfinger. I'm actually happy Meggie ended up with Doria, who is a really great character.

Dustfinger, Mo and Resa are great characters too, and I felt different sides were shown of them in this third book which made the characters more interesting and even better. And Mo's love of books is just wonderful. It is a love I definitely understand.

Inkworld itself is described so beautifully. I can picture it in my mind. Despite its dangers, I wouldn't mind a visit there myself if it were really possible. But only a visit, I'd want to come back to my world.

I thought the story was well-written and all the ends were tied up nicely. I'm glad the characters did get their happy ending. Along with the first two books, Inkdeath is one of my favorite books that I will revisit again sometime.

Inkdeath
Inkdeath - Cornelia Funke

Original Title: Tintentod

The conclusion to the Inkworld trilogy, I'd been looking forward to this book for a long time, after I really liked the first to books.

Luckily, this book didn't disappoint! It was still very nice to read, I still like the idea and especially the characters (although I really missed my favourite one). It felt like a good ending to the series, although I liked the first two books best...

Overall, I think this is a very nice series probably best for ages around 12. It's one of those series where you can just feel how much the author loves books.

Note: I read a Dutch translation of this book
