KINDRED IN DEATH by J. D. Robb
Kindred in Death - J.D. Robb

The teen-age daughter of a Captain in the Illegals Division is found murdered in her bed. The Captain asks for Eve Dallas to find the killer.

This was a good one. Eve has a psychological profile of the murderer but no pictures. He has managed to bypass a Roarke system, which Roarke is not pleased about. Together along with Eve's team at Cop Central they find the glitch in his plans. I like that Eve talks it out and that Roarke and others on the team can fill in where she has not gone in her thoughts which put her on the path to finding the murderer. She knows the why. She just has to find the who. I lost sleep staying up to read this book I was so intrigued by the path Eve took to find her murderer.

I look forward to the next one.

12 Days of Death Note: Kindred Spirits
Death Note, Vol. 11: Kindred Spirit - Tsugumi Ohba,Takeshi Obata

The penultimate volume. You can feel the plot starts to thicken but at the same time there is still quite some filler. On the one hand, by now I feel ready to finish the series, on the other hand I will miss it when it's done.

Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb
Kindred in Death (In Death, #29) - J.D. Robb

The MacMasters, home early from their short trip, find their daughter, sixteen-year-old Deena, dead in her bed. She'd been repeatedly raped and sodomized and then strangled. The distraught father, a recently promoted Captain of the NYPSD, requests Lieutenant Eve Dallas to helm the investigation, and even though the trauma the girl's been through brings forth memories of her own abuse-filled childhood, Eve takes the case...Deena is already hers.

It quickly becomes apparent, Deena knew her killer, and the message he or she left on scene alludes at the daughter paying for her father sins. What is the connection between the killer and Captain MacMasters? Will the killer stop or are there more sins to be paid for?

A solid, well-written story, although it ended up being a tad too long, losing plenty of momentum in the last few chapters.

The kills were appropriately gruesome and the killer's machinations and planning meticulous, yet I felt the motive didn't really hold its weight. It was a little too far-fetched for my liking, with innocents once more losing their lives due to flimsy slights perceived by the villain. But those are sociopaths for you, I guess.

I didn't really connect with the plot this time; I felt rather detached from all the proceedings instead of the story pulling me in as it usually happens.

I wasn't that interested in the lighter parts of the story either, feeling the whole Charles/Louise wedding side-plot simply added more ballast to the plot, slowing it down, and added more pages to an already too long story.

Süßer Ruf des Todes // Kindred In Death !!!
Süßer Ruf des Todes (Reihenfolge der Eve Dallas-Krimis, Band 29) - J.D. Robb,Uta Hege

It's been way way WAY too long since I last read a book in the In Death series but I', back and I even got the next book in the series out of my shelve right away. It's not that I don't have the books available too me, I buy them as soon as they come out BUT, I always take forever to get through these books, so I ALWAYS put it off. Even though I LOVE this series.

It was amazing getting back into the world of Eve Dallas, she's absolutely one of my favorite characters, she is one of those protagonist that I love reading, no matter if it's about how she's doing her work or about how she's dealing with her personal life. She's amazing and I love her sense of humor.

Also, at this point in life, I really appreciate all the different friendships between the women in this book. There are so many different personalities that come together and they still have these great friendships and it's just amazing to read.

And the case was a tough one. Really brutal actually. But so so gripping, it held my attention until the very end.

Kindred in Death (In Death, #29)
Kindred in Death (In Death, #29) - J.D. Robb Two things: These stories tend to end immediately after the case is closed. But sometimes I'd like to know some of the details that happen after the case is closed. Like, did the victim's father go back to work or did he leave the police force after everything settled? It's nothing important, but I'm still curious.

Second thing: There is no Sundown, Alabama located south of Mobile, Alabama. There ain't much below Mobile but the Gulf of Mexico. As this story is decades in the future, it's entirely possible that a town south of Mobile was later renamed, but... That was an interesting choice of name Robb chose. "Sundown towns" used to be white-only towns where your life was forfeit if you were found in town after sundown and had black or brown skin. It is not a proud heritage. Nobody in their right mind would allow a southern, but especially an Alabamian, town to be named Sundown. Even in a fictional future.

Extra thing: This is the 2nd time Robb has mentioned Mobile, AL in this series when most people have no clue we exist. I think she likes us. Like, like likes us. *bats eyelashes*
