鬼に発情 [

Murder and More- Gerald W. Darnell

A detective mystery set in the 1960s with an authentic feel of the 1960s. The book could so easily have been written then rather than in 2015. The read is nicely scattered with illustrative pictures from the period, which I can see adding a lot to the reading experience of those born later. I felt that I could be reading a period Mickey Spillane novel; the script felt that authentic. I'd even say that there are more than a few similarities between Mike Hammer and Carson Reno— well at least as how I remember the character. Then again, possibly Reno is a more James Garner in the Rockford Files TV series. Okay, that was very 1970s scripted, but the Rockford character could have been slotted seamlessly into any '50s/60s detective series. So then, for me, Carson Reno is possibly best described as a blend of Mike Hammer and Jim Rockford.

The writing has a sharp journalistic economy, never burying us in irrelevances and keeping a brisk pace. Some of the bit players are easy to confuse, but that problem is relieved by the index of characters. This is the first Darnell book I've read. Love it. I can see this series of books on every paperback turntable in front of every '60s newspaper store. The mass market paperback days are, generally speaking, history, but that shouldn't limit the availability and popularity of Darnell's Carson Reno. This book is an object lesson in how to get that old paperback buzz into the e market. For those still addicted to traditional paper, the lovers of the smell and feel of 'pulp', for those that still have or are discovering vinyl records and classic cars, the hands-on version looks just as 60s slick. The period will always be culturally cool and so will Carson, with bourbon and coke and an after dinner cigar.

This is a mystery detective novel, not a voyeuristic trip through violence and death, as so many modern genre books are. A read that may seriously damage your place in time.

A Perfect Game
A Perfect Game - Reno MacLeod,Jaye Valentine At first I wasn't so sure about this because I'm not big into bdsm especially if it's contemporary. However this was free so I figured, why not? If I choose to ignore the absolute eye-roll inducing insta-love, I think this was an overall pretty decent story

You've got Kit who's a star baseball player at his college. He's a cocky little shit and he lays eyes on his substitute teacher Liam and is instantly smitten. He sets out to seduce him and Liam of course, shuts him down. All caution is thrown out the window when they run into each other in Provincetown literally a few days later and proclaim love at first sight. I'm not joking. And the rest as they say, is history.

So first you have an age gap and then a role reversal where the older, more experienced guy is the bottom/sub. Then comes the kink. Now I haven't read a lot of bdsm and not to say that there's an age requirement… but this 20 year old is well versed in hot wax, whippings, exhibitionism, collars/claimings, master/slave situations, as well as fear play. Yep. He also remarked he would never do these things to another unless he himself had experienced it. And when did this all start? In between his playing baseball and camp and jr high through high school?? There was mention of him learning the whip starting at age 14 under the ruse of having an interest in Renaissance fairs! Wow. But what the hell do I know? I was a bit like a deer in headlights; I couldn't look away. These scenes to me were pretty separate from the actual smexy times so I could easily detach myself from that and enjoy the more "vanilla" parts.

In and amongst all of that was a pretty sweet love story, as well as some topical issues of parental acceptance and being out of the closet as a professional sports player. Suffice it to say, this had a lot of different elements to it - maybe one or all will strike your fancy.

5 full moons - "Reno's Chance" by Lora Leigh
Reno's Chance: A Navy Seals Story - Lora Leigh

I was looking for another military book to read and another blogger suggested Lora Leigh's Tempting Seals series to me.  Where have I been all this time and why did I not try out any of Lora Leigh's books before?  I freaking loved Reno's Chance and this was just a novella.  I can't wait to get into the other books in the series. I had a hard time putting down my Kindle.  In fact I read this novella, whenever I could sneak it in between books I had to review and in between college assignments.  I even read it while waiting for my daughter to get out of school one day.  (I bet the parents around me saw me blushing and saw my smile while reading this novella….LOL)

The heat level in Reno's Chance was scorching and I loved both Reno and Raven.  Even when it's a short novella, Lora Leigh managed to make it one hot little number of a story.  Holy crap just thinking about it...!!!  =)

Reno was the sexy determined Navy Seal trying to get the beautiful Raven to become more than just friends.  They had known each other for years, but Raven did not want to start anything with Reno due to her worries of losing him.  Reno's a Navy Seal, so she is definitely allowed to worry.  Reno though wants to reassure her that it will be worth it, and he will do anything to be with her and show how much he loves her.

I loved how Reno would constantly chase after Raven and Raven would continuously run off.  She didn't make it easy for him, but Reno knew if he continued to chase after her, she would eventually give in.

If you are looking for a quick read with some very heated sexual moments  with a Navy Seal and lots of romance then this is the book for you.

I give this novella 5 full moons and look forward to diving into the next book in the series.  This was a great start to what is to come in the next books.  It sure peeked my interest.  =) I LOVE me some military romance books with a very sexy Navy Seal.

Ranting Noooooo

Hey guys! Haven't been on for a while, and I missed you like crazy. :) We got tons of stuff done, though--most of our Christmas shopping and stuff, so yaaay. I hate the buying and the waiting part, though. And keeping secrets. I WANT TO GIVE THEM THEIR STUFF, DANG IT. (I'm terrible. And it's even worse when I know what someone got someone else, because then more secrets. Why can't I time travel and just skip on to Christmas?.....But then I'd have to come back anyway and do the waiting again. Grrrr. I can't win.)

And since my gunblade keychain got lost a few months ago (;____; it was Squall's and my absolute favorite keychain), I went and bought myself a new gunblade. I thought it was Squall's from the picture, but now I have it and it's actually Yazoo's. :D Somehow that actually makes me happier. I don't love Yazoo or anything, but it's from Advent Children and Yazoo was technically kind of a part of Seph, and you guys know how I feel about Seph, so.....happy. Yay. And it still reminds me of Squall. I'm wearing it around my neck now, though - it's not running away from me like the last one did. (Here's where you realize that this update has absolutely nothing to do with books.)

I reread Carol Berg's book Transformation AGAIN. Must be the thirtieth time. I adore that book. It's got problems, sure, but it's awesome. And I adore Seyonne and Aleksander, they're one of the most unlikely and most perfect teams in all history. (NO. It's not romantic. They're like brothers.)

And.....it's been snowing. Ugh. I hate snow. Yay for all those kids who want a white Christmas, but I still hate the snow. And my favorite pair of boots kicked the bucket last winter, so this year I'm stuck with the Deathtrap Boots, which have the absolute worst traction on the face of the planet. They actually have this fuzz on the soles, which slips and slides on even non-icy ground when it gets damp. Pfft.

Oh, and I wrote lots of stuff in the last few days. And I erased tons of stuff, but hey. At least my story's going better than usual. :) Remind me not to kill off my favorite characters in the future. I end up missing them and then I'm miserable and I want to bring them back to life, which--just no.

Hope you guys are having an awesome winter!! *hugs* And here's an adorable Reno gif to make you feel better if you're not. :)
