Void Wyrm (The Magitech Chronicles #2) - Chris Fox

Book one, Tech Mage, leaves us with Maror Voria about to go to trial for killing her first officer, a Captain Thalas that referred to his men as fodder and rage against the book's protagonist Aran. Since this is Aran's book we know how that turned out. Major Voria had seen an augury from the Tender Aurelia that included Aran but not Thalas. When Major Voria had been relieved of her command is when she shot Thalas, to finish what she had seen in the augury and win the battle against Nebiat. Aran had been promoted to Lieutenant and basically won the battle, with the help of Voria, Nara, and Sergeant Crewes.

Now in book two, the court-martial ends with Voria being stripped from Major to Captain and her crew and ship disbanded. Now comes another augury and Voria must travel to the Umbral Depths, a dangerous unknown place.

So even though these are some spoilers, these all come in the first part of the book and are pretty much expected and easy to predict from the reader. Void Wyrm is pretty much like the 1st book. good writing, decent story and Fox does a good job keeping you into the story. I had to laugh at one part because it was like they were visiting the Wizard of Oz, to get and learn their powers and strengths.

Even tho I gave it 2.5 stars it is really entertaining and worth the read if you like science fiction and magic.  The only reason I didn't review it earlier is that I didn't feel like writing in my blog when I finished Void Wyrm on March 23rd, and here it is March 27th. I just couldn't put the book down that I started that night after Void Wyrm.

Shadow of the Wyrm
Shadow of the Wyrm - Susan Spitale Prech... Shadow of the Wyrm - Susan Spitale Precht * I received a ecopy from the author thanks to YA Bound Book Tours. This in no way affects my review.*

Wow, such an exciting story! I really enjoyed this one, and loved the setting and world building. I wasn't sure what this was about when I started it, but from the first pages, we are immersed in a world where Osker is leader of a small remnant of a once great tribe. Having been nearly wiped out by their enemy, the Wyrm, Osker tells his followers they must spread out, and forget the old ways. No reading, no writing, no metals, nothing that links them to the Wyrm. Time passes, and we meet Torg, Osker's grandson, one of a few kids preparing for adulthood. When strangers visit Torg's home, big changes are set into motion. I loved the adventure, and the dangers our heroes meet in this story!

Book Review of Sigil of the Wyrm: Volume 1 (Into the Weirding) by A.J. Campbell
Sigil of the Wyrm (Into the Weirding) (Volume 1) - J.A. Campbell

Richard Lampton never believed in fairy tales, so when a stunning stranger at his uncle’s funeral warns him of an ancient family curse, he pays no heed—until a very real wyrm attempts to destroy him. Now, with the help of a homeless runaway, a fledgling jackdaw, and a key none but he can use, Richard must find the courage to meet his death or his destiny as he plunges headlong Into the Weirding.

Review 5*

This is the first book in the Into the Weirding series. I really enjoyed it!

Richard Lampton is an interesting character. I really liked him a lot. He's an ordinary man (or is he?) thrown into an extraordinary adventure. I love watching characters grow in stories and Richard definitely does. When his Uncle Tom dies from a supposed heart attack, Richard finds himself inheriting a deadly curse that has plagued his family for centuries. Being a rational man, he dismisses it as fantasy at first; that is until he's attacked by a monster. As he tries to break the curse, he unwillingly ventures into a dangerous and unknown world.

I love reading YA dark fantasy and when I read the blurb of this book, I was intrigued. I started to read this book and I didn't put it down until I finished it. I devoured it! I found myself hooked from the first page.

There are several interesting characters that are introduced in this tale. However, there are a couple of them that I am still not sure of their motives. The first one is Katherine (Kate) Avery. She is still a mystery to me and I must admit that I didn't like her at first. The second one is Robin, aka the Baron. The author never really tells us much about him, so the reader is left to wonder about his identity. I did, however, like meeting Dawlish. She's a teen runaway who has been taken under the wing (so to speak) by Kate and the Baron and has the ability to talk to birds. Speaking of birds, I love Bobble, the fledgling Jackdaw that is taken in by Richard when he accidentally flies into the window and is knocked out. He has a personality and character all of his own. Crows, ravens, jackdaws, mocking birds and magpies all have an intelligence and curiosity that is sorely underestimated by us humans. This intelligence makes them extremely interesting to me. Then there is Jenny. She has a secret past that, as it was revealed, surprised me.

The story takes the reader on an adventure full of danger, magic and suspense. The explanation for the curse and how John Lampton's actions all those centuries ago had consequences that reverberated down through the years is woven intricately into a tale of personal growth for Richard. It takes an extraordinary man to do the impossible and undo the mess John made, and Richard steps up even though he has no idea what he's getting himself into. However, I couldn't blame John for his actions, as his choices were not exactly easy and were heartbreaking. I would have loved to have more background to Kate and the Baron, so I am hoping that as the series progresses that we get to see more of them and get to know them better. As I reached the end of the story, I had mixed emotions; I was sad that it had come to the end, but happy at the way it concluded. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A.J. Campbell has written a fascinating debut novel. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow is wonderful. I would definitely consider reading more of her work in the future.

Although this is a YA dark fantasy, I do not recommend this book to young readers under the age of 15 due to some scenes of violence. I do, however, highly recommend this book to older teens and adults who love YA dark fantasy or urban fantasy. - Lynn Worton

The Iron Wyrm Affair Review
The Iron Wyrm Affair - Lilith Saintcrow

Hello everyone and how's it going? I hope you all are doing awesome! As for me I am feeling fantastic, excited, a little bit scared, and amazing! Why? You might be asking. Well, that's because that secret thing I was working on just got back to me and that is. It may not be a big deal for some, but this is huge for me. That is I'm going back to school, yeah a pretty big step for someone my age. I'll be earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. So, I'm going to be a teacher and it's something that I've been wanting to do for a long time. I'm just thrilled to be going back to school and also for the first time ever live on campus! As much fun as this is for me. It's time to get down to business lol. I am happy to present to you a book review YAY!!! I know it's been a while since I've posted one of these babies (hehe!) The book I'll be reviewing is called "The Iron Wyrm Affair" and it is written by Lilith Saintcrow.

This story is about a forensic sorceress named Emma Bannon and she is on a mission to protect a man name Archibald Clare who is a failed and unregistered mentath.

This was another steampunk read for me. But, this one was just hard to get through. I just couldn't understand some of the terms the author used. I had wished that she had proved a better explanation of the levels of witchcraft and what a mentath is. Also, trying to figure out German and Italian was hard. This story reminded me a bit like Sherlock Holmes and it was not to bad. I was hoping for a bit more of sense of humor to ease some tension. But, the humor was proved by two characters. As for Emma she was cool and a strong character, she did care a lot about her fashion sense. For Mr. Clare he reminded me of Sherlock with his power of deduction. Now, Emma has a shield name Mikal and he was a very intense man. Whenever he was around Emma, you can feel the pull towards each other very well. All in all this book wasn't to bad, but I felt like it was lacking something and I'm not to sure what that is. I do recommend this and I think I will try to continue the series.

Well, that's it from me! I hope you enjoyed this review. I will of course be back on Monday with a brand new post. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and have a great day/night. Til then,

TOODLES!!!

Cover:
-Das Cover zeigt Nicolas mit dem Riesigen Wyrm
