HAVEN by LAURY FALTER
Haven - Laury Falter

A few kids get caught in their school when a zombie apocalypse occurs. It seems the principal and the cook were preppers because there's a lot of stuff there to help them out. The only problem is they're magnets for the undead who surround the school. The ending is a cliff hanger. Not a huge one but enough that you want to see what happens next. 4 stars

THE TURN by KIM HARRISON
The Turn: The Hollows Begins with Death - Kim Harrison

Wonderful book! This is about how Trent's mom and dad got together and everything that happened because of their relationship. All I could think of was poor Trent. Also, I wonder what happens with Orchid. Hopefully there is a second prequel book in this series.

THE LIGHT IN THE LAKE by RON FOSTER
The Light In The Lake - Ron Foster,Cheryl Chamlies

I'm not loving the way the women are depicted in this book. It's not done overtly demeaning or anything but the small amount is pretty constant when the women are mentioned. Hey author, I'm the level-headed one in my family! It's my husband that needs a little push to get going and then he's great but I'm the one that reacts first to an emergency. And I'm positive I'm not the only one.

This book was a little too happy for me. There was mention of bad people on the other side of the lake and of people being robbed but the ending was a little unrealistic to me. I'm not saying there would be all out war but I didn't see any mention of rationing or people losing at least a little bit of weight that I would normally expect especially since there were so many people with their group. Also David only had a passing problem with people borrowing his guns - for long periods of time. So good book but not as good as the others.

BUT OUT PREPPERS ON THE MOVE! by RON FOSTER
Bug Out! Preppers on the Move!: Bug Out to Live and Eat After Emp. - Ron Hollis Foster,Cheryl Chamlies

The same complaints as the first one - the main character David is a little bit of a hot head, turning jokes out that kind of sound mean. But otherwise really good book. Some helpful hints and good books to purchase including one by this author on traps and snares. I'm not sure about all of these alternative vehicles working after an EMP but then what do I really know.

THE LONGEST WALK by RON FOSTER
The Longest Walk - Ron Foster

First off, I really like the drawings that accompany some of the descriptions of devices the author talks about. I would have been thinking, "What?!" several times throughout the book without them.

The voices are a little stilted and it seems the hero is a hair trigger from angry or frustrated, but overall I liked the book. I especially liked how he had to start from nothing because his bug-out bag was 18 miles away with his car. Why he wouldn't have brought his own car to the interview, I have no idea but at least it gave you an idea of what to look for as you're trying to get home with only your wallet & keys/purse & keys.
