Bastard Bachelor Society (The Bachelors Club) by: Sara Ney
Bastard Bachelor Society (The Bachelors Club) - Sara Ney

The alpha you want to hate becomes the playboy you can't live without. Sara Ney has dibs on what looks to be the perfect book boyfriend. Brooks shouts heartbreaker from a mile away. Abbott has no idea what she's in for. Or does she have a few tricks up her sleeve tame this beastly bad boy? Bastard Bachelor Society seduces with humor and sneaks right up on a heart. Fun, fierce, firecracker of a read.

I would have been happier without the romantic plot tumor
Sapphire Flames (Hidden Legacy #4) - Ilona Andrews

For all that three years passed, 21 years old Catalina feels so much younger than Nevada at 23 did on that first volume. Mostly because she got so derailed by Sagredo.

And I know; hormones mess with you, and so does passion, and 21 is very young and perfect time to be stupid about those things (and really, crushes and love makes idiots out of everyone at any age). But: Sagredo.

I have ZERO likes for those dangerous, maybe-bad, likely-bad-for-you, Cassanova-wanna-bes with tortured backgrounds that enjoy teasing and baiting, then hide under all the angst to not commit, and leave the damsel paying while telling themselves they are being all selfless for not dragging her all the way in. That's... so much disrespect for the girl, her feelings, and her capabilities.

I did like most of the periphery though: the one-scene-wonder Venenata coming back (though her brother could get stuffed... and I just realized almost every male made me rage at some point, and the exceptions would be Heart and Sgt Teddy, like, wow); the family interactions; what happened in the interim with the fallout of previous volumes; that chat and decision with Victoria (terrible, stupid, and still very interesting) and... that's it.

Yeah, doing a recap, I realize that although it was a fast fun ride, it was not awesome like I'd expected.

Awesome Contemporary Romance
Cocky Bastard - Penelope Ward,Vi Keeland

Cocky Bastard by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward is a fun read.  Team Keeland/Ward has produced a book that is well-written and loaded with humor and snark.  The characters in the book are spectacular.  It is written in first person, alternating point of view, not my favorite format, but I'm certainly not sorry I read the book.  Aubrey is on her way California to start a new job when she meets Chase at a rest area.  Due to his motorcycle breakdown and her flat tire, they agree to finish the trip together.  Aubrey and Chase's story is loaded with drama, humor, steamy sex and did I mention lots of humor?  I enjoyed reading Cocky Bastard and would happily read more from Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Fun with sociopaths
Lady Susan - Jane Austen

It's short, it's unpolished, and the MC is an absolutely conniving bitch. And, oh, my god, it was magnificent.

Susan is horrid and also compelling. A fun (yet sadly not that far from reality) caricature of your garden variety sociopathic creature.

From the first letter I was laughing at the convolutions and machinations, and all the suspected make-up to what could be inferred of recent past happenings.

Facts are such horrid things!

And facts do come out, because it is a happy little story all things said. Oddly cute romp.

Owned by the Bastard (The Soldiers of Wrath MC, 1) - Jenika Snow,Sam Crescent

I really don't know why I tortured myself finishing this book.
