Save my reputation
Blackmail Boyfriend (Entangled Crush) - Chris Cannon

Haley Patterson and Bryce Colton did not run in the same circles.  When she came to school and heard a rumor they hooked up over the weekend - she saw red!  Then she found out what really happened, and used it for her own gain.  There was another Haley who had slept with him over the weekend and then got back together with her huge fighter boyfriend.

Bryce was not sure what to do.  Haley was nothing like the girls he had gone out with in the past.  He was not sure this was a good thing - but he is leaning more towards yes it is.  His best friend likes her best friend and double dating isn't so bad.

Haley knew she would never get out of the rut she was in if she did not come up with a plan.  Her brothers are so protective of her - she will never date in this lifetime.  Bryce has a reason to step up and give her brothers lip to keep his secret safe.  She can teach them she will date and the next guy, the real guy, can come along and all will be well.

Nothing ever goes as planned.  Bryce and Haley start kissing and holding hands and things seem on the surface to be going better than ever.  Then why do they always have a huge bunch of steps backward every time they make strides forward?  Haley is not sure she can keep doing this.

An amazing story that is as sweet as it is sassy.  I love the characters and how they interacted with one another.  The humor and genuine feelings were so superb, there was no chance that I could put this down until I got the scoop!  I loved this story and I give it a firm 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Blackmail Boyfriend (Entangled Crush) - Chris Cannon

Haley is your typical good girl. She is an honor student and practically invisible thanks to her over protective brothers who have threatened any boy who dares to show interest in her. All she wants is to get her brothers to lay off so that she has the chance to find a boyfriend.

Bryce is a rich and popular guy who can have his pick of any girl. He soon starts regretting his choice of women when his shallow, materialistic girlfriend becomes too clingy. After trying to break up with her three times, he resorts to hooking up with someone else to make her leave him alone. The only problem is the girl he hooked up gave him the wrong name. Haley's name. What starts out as a mistake turns into a compromise when Haley decides to blackmail Bryce into being her "boyfriend" to show that she's girlfriend material and to keep her brothers at bay.

This story developed quickly. We jump straight into the rumor mill and Haley uses it to her advantage. It ends up creating more problems for her and she starts to question if it was worth it. While both Haley and Bryce agreed to the situation, both questioned how they really felt about it and each other. I would have like to see more character development though. Haley was very touchy, jumping from like to hate and back again too quickly. Bryce was similar, being spoiled and wanting things to go a certain way one minute to being a jerk the next minute.

There were also a few bombshells dropped that should have garnered more of a reaction from both Haley and Bryce but they were placed on the back burner. I would have liked to see the situations play a larger role in the story as I feel it would have given more depth to their characters.

All in all this was a quick read and a pleasant way to pass the time. There were some funny moments and secondary characters, Nathan and Jane, made the story interesting.

I received a copy of Blackmail Boyfriend from the publisher, Entangled Publishing, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Blog Tour - BLACKMAIL BOYFRIEND

Blackmail Boyfriend

by Chris Cannon

Release Date: 08/11/15

Entangled Teen: Crush

Summary from Goodreads:

Sometimes, blackmail is the only weapon a girl has…

Haley Patterson has had a crush on golden boy Bryce Colton for ages. But then when she hears a rumor—Bryce is telling everyone that  he hooked up with her. With Haley’s reputation taking a nosedive, she gives Bryce him a choice: be her boyfriend for a month for a month or face the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up withto show other guys that she’s dateable—despite her overprotective and very intimidating brothers.—or deal with the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up with.

Bryce didn’t know the other Haley even had a boyfriend. He was just trying to get his ex off his back. And now doesn't know what's more unbelievable, not only is—that he's he being blackmailed,  or that he's being blackmailed by an honor student. His little “hook up” was supposed to end his problems with girls, not create new ones. Not only that, but his new “girlfriend” has two overprotective brothers, three-legged dogs, her father mows grass at the country club, and she's…well, difficult. And different.

Besides, everyone knows that perfect boys never fall for imperfect girls…Sometimes, giving in is all a boy can do…Can something so fake turn into something real?

Blackmail Boyfriend
Blackmail Boyfriend - Chris Cannon This is a great book for light, fun reading. It's a cute story about how you can find friends and love in the most unlikely people. Haley flies under the radar with her friend, Jane, all throughout high school until her crush, Bryce, starts a rumor. Through the course of a specified time, they get to know each other and notice the changes they made in each other. It's a quick read and a fun way to pass the time.

Cute and so much more
Blackmail Boyfriend (Entangled Crush) - Chris Cannon

So honestly: I expect this to be a cute & fluffy, was hoping this was well written - and I would have been happy.

But I kinda got more...

I never read anything by Cannon before. So I was pleased to discover I enjoyed her writing style. It's witty, sassy and fresh.

The plot was sweet, fun and while I expected mega predictable- it actually did throw me on several occasions. I mean this is a cute & fluffy-and you can guess the outcome.. so basically the main plot line had no huge surprises. But Cannon took what could have been a run of the mill kinda story- albeit it would have been sweet and cute- and added her own brand to it. Essentially this is a mash up getting thrown together-by-accident and girl and boy from totally different sides of town kinda love story. To be frank I would have been probably happy with just that. Since it was written very well. But Cannon layered into this several other factors, which made this an unexpected good read.

Cannon shines in the character building of the two MCs. Hayley and Bryce are both more than they seem. And their POV were both written exceptionally well. I love their little angst fest. The best part about it is that probably 99% of the female population could relate to Hayley, her behaviour, her worries and fears.
I think she is a very good example for how many of us gals behave and feel at that age. I am talking when it comes to boys and our insecurities. I wasn't an animal rescue kinda gal- then again I had my own quirks and obsessions- hence I can relate.
Nathan and Jane were an incredible support cast. And I honestly feel like I know those four kids. Each unique and each from a different family. Cannon did a great job portraying the different family dynamics and the way all of them deal with it.
I found however some of the adults a bit to cliche and too stark. Brittany in compare to all the different characters was too over the top in my opinion.

Then there is the country club scene... and I honestly found myself a bit irritated. I felt somehow Cannon might ruin the last bit of the book. I begrudgingly found myself smile at Bryce's grand gesture.

Then Cannon won my heart completely with the last paragraph.

That last paragraph encompasses everything I loved about Blackmail Boyfriend in just a few phrases.

A must read that is surprising, cute, fun and full of wonderful details and moments.
