Interesting Start Loss Of Interest in Middle
Moby-Dick; or, The Whale - Herman Melville,Andrew Delbanco,Tom Quirk
A shiphand named Ishmael meets other seafaring men including the strange and hypnotic Captain Ahab.  Captain is obsessed with catching the the great white whale named Moby Dick.

I started the book knowing there would be a lot about whales...probably too much.  I thought I would give it a shot anyway.  At first it was actually better than I thought. We meet Ishmael, and Ishmael meets Queequeg. Together they get to know each other a little and decide to join the crew of Captain Ahab’s ship.   The story with just Ishmael and Queequeg was interesting I wanted more and it made me hopeful as I read for a bit….but then the direction of the book changed.

Unfortunately about as soon as they get on the Captain Ahab’s boat, all the interesting things about Ishmael and Queequeg were gone, not just in one chapter but way too many.   By the time I start reading a chapter that is basically a page from an encyclopedia I had enough.

I could not continue reading.  I really dislike not finishing a book but my brain could not take the drawn out details about Ahab and the white whale or other whales. Whales are magnificent creatures but man did this just make them really boring.

DNF: I got to 10%. Hence the lack of a rating.
The Dying Dance (Detective Byone) - Ricardo Fleshman

I got a copy of this in electronic format from the Author, and sadly, I just can't read it.

The formatting and errors in the text are too distracting that I can't enjoy the story.

I got to 10%. Hence the lack of a rating.

Here's what I noticed:

2% - ...a cinderblock wal(l).
4% - ...hobbled into the al(l)ey...
5% - ...into the foothil(l)s of Virginia.
...Burber Hil(l).
The mines and mil(l)s had been...
...bal(l)gowns...
...of The Hil(l)...
6% - ...before final(l)y being left...
7% - ...came cal(l)ing...
2 years should be written out (two)
She was stil(l) exquisite.
...rise and fal(l) of her...
"...Isit is where (speech marks wrong way)
8% - ...weekly col(l)ection until he found...
I'm not commenting on missing 'l's' anymore. There are too many
9% - is the protagonist Mose or Moses? It seems to change...

Oh dear...
Fractured Man - Jacob R. Blacquiere

I read 6% of this book, tried to force myself to see past the issues with the writing, but alas, I couldn't. There were too many, sometimes several issues to a single page.

The issues ranged from incorrect word choices (as per my quote for this book). That word doesn't mean what you think it means... Try 'thrashing', thrashing bodies sounds better than thriving bodies, especially when one is dying.

Other issues included too many attributions outside of 'said'. Things like: Yuri snapped, Sal wailed, and Winston screamed.

Probably one of the worst instances of rambling I've ever read, this story tells you something, then follows up with the same thing, just to make sure you got it.

Examples include:

Getting the raider into his line of sight, Winston sprinted the distance towards him and struck at full speed, tackling him hard into the dirt. Their bodies slammed with a thud, but Winston leapt to his feet first before the raider could recover.

Also, superfluous words much?!

Despite his words and the resolve with which he spoke them, in his mind, he knew Sal would be dead soon, probably within a matter of minutes.

Why not just say: he knew Sal would be dead in a matter of minutes?

Things also ranged into WTF territory a couple of times with rather bizarre things happening. Like when Winston shoots a guy square in the chest, but it's described as 'leaving a small, searing flesh wound' which to me makes me think that either Jacob and I have differing opinions of what a flesh wound is, or Winston is a really crappy shot!

I had a look at the other reviews, majority seem to rate this as non-original and a bit boring. From what I've read, I'd have to agree.

The Savage King - I just could not finish it
The Savage King: A Dragon Lords Story (Lords of the Var Book 1) - Michelle M. Pillow

The Savage King is the story of Ulyssa who is a military agent and has been sent to the planet of Qurilixen on a mission to ensure some Mafia does not leave the planet. Only she is thwarted because her targets daughter killed him, but leaving is not so easy she is trapped until the next transport can pick her up which is not for a few months. Well Ulyssa soon finds herself caught and kidnapped by King Ator who wants her for his harem. Only the King never comes for her because he too is murdered. Now the Kings son is about to become the new Savage King and well things get more complicated because the new King Kirill is not really ready to become King and he has feelings for this difficult woman.

Sounds good right well it did not pan out for me.  I will be upfront and say I did not finish the book I quit at about 40%. I really disliked Ulyssa I guess some would say she is feisty but I keep wondering what the hell kind of agent is she. She is mouthy and brass about the dumbest stuff. Why would you try to escape without getting some intel first? Needles to say she was a bit of an idiot. Then the two of them are just silly I guess communication does not really exist on this planet to boot even the erotic scenes just seemed blah. Add to that I think they referenced the 21st century like this is the past yet all of the attitudes and comments felt very much like modern day.

Suffice it to say I am glad I got this book for free THANK YOU amazon prime. I am a bit miffed that I wasted my monthly credit on this book but at least I am not out of cash.

Anyway people seem to really like this book and maybe it would have been better had I read Dragon Lords first but I did not and I am no longer interested.

Movie is better
Undead - John Russo

Only read the first book because that was  boring as hell. The writing is bland and I kept falling asleep trying to read it. Booooo. :(
