Book Blitz - Blue Tide

Blue Tide
Jenna-Lynne Duncan

Published by: Clean Teen Publishing
Publication date: January 9th 2017
Genres: Adventure, Dystopian, Young Adult

An award-winning YA adventure-packed romance steeped in Middle Eastern culture and set in the Asian Pacific amongst dangerous oceans and tropical islands.

Seventeen-year-old refugee Lux plots her escape from the island where her family is stranded, denying that her home was lost in the Floods. Lux is determined to get her old life back by any means possible. But before her feet even leave the sand, she’s taken hostage by a vengeance-driven pirate nearly as young as she is.

Her capture is the key to his freedom…

Captain Draven’s scarf veils more than his face. Underneath, he struggles between morality and survival. When Lux sees deeper into his motivations, she’s torn. She can commit mutiny to escape to a home that may no longer exist, or she can try to help Draven escape the clutches of the person responsible for the deaths of half the world. Staying would mean entrusting her life to a pirate. Helping Draven would mean losing her heart to one.

EXCERPT:

“You will help him, if it’s the last thing you do.”

He had to be bluffing. Lifting my chin, I met his icy gaze straight on. “You can threaten my life, but there is nothing more you can take from me that you haven’t already.”

“Oh, really?”

He stepped forward, towering over me. Wow, he was tall. I resisted every instinct to cower or curl into a small ball. His hand shot out so quickly, I hardly felt the pull around my neck. My hands flew to my chest. My necklace!

The captain held up the chain, his eyes wide with victory. It was clear he was waiting for a reaction, but, except for that first jolt of surprise, I was paralyzed.

Everything fell silent except the slap of waves against the hull and the drum of his boots as he walked to the railing. I clutched my arms to my chest. My heart sped up so fast I couldn’t tell if it was still beating. He held his hand over the side of the ship. The back of my throat ached with a pain so great I thought it would tear out.

“Stop!” One hand still clutched my chest, the other reached out toward the necklace.

“Still think I have nothing I can take from you? There is always something, Princess.”

Desperation replaced all courage. “Please stop. I can help him.”

He shrugged.

“Wait!”

He opened his palm, one finger at a time. The gold chain slid down, dipping closer to the waters below.

“Please, I’ll do anything!” I pressed my fists to the sides of my head.

He drew his fingers in, closing them around the chain. The necklace dangled safely.

I dropped my arms in relief. “Thank—”

With one slow, deliberate move, he opened his palm.

The chain slipped through his fingers.

“No,” I cried, running to the railing. My necklace had disappeared into the roaring waters below. Lost forever.

I choked on the air I strove to inhale. “That was… that was the only thing…” The sound of my heartbeat thrashed in my ears before every emotion was washed away. Every muscle in my body tightened and my eyes twitched as they narrowed. I turned mechanically to face the heartless brute. My face expressionless, my feelings numbed.

He would pay for what he’d done.

“You are in no position to negotiate. Make no more requests or the next thing I drop in the water will be prisoners. One. By. One.” He dictated to me without one ounce of regret for what he’d just done. Turning just as easily, he shouted orders behind him. “Ahmed, bring her.”

Review: Tempest
Tempest - Jenna-Lynne Duncan

I read the first book Hurricane and enjoy it. This is a novella, so it goes back before Hurricane following events that lead up to it. It’s also has much more information on both guys.

Plot: If you have read Hurricane then you will certainly enjoy this. It’s gives plenty of more insight on emotions and thoughts from all the characters. I really enjoyed being in Hayden’s mind and seeing what he is thinking for once. A little more history is explained on Hayden and exactly what he is dealing with.

Ending: Pretty much, this story covers plots and stuff left out in Hurricane that you might of miss. It also carries plenty of drama, (fights/arguments between Hayden and his brother) of course, so its keeps the reader entertained. It’s also short, so any reader can finish this pretty fast.

Bottomline: It’s good. I finished this book fairly fast and feel quickly back into the story as if I never left.  If you read Hurricane, I would say you can read this, but you don’t really need to. Though, there are a few tidbits exposed that you may want to know. For a first time reader, this story is good start to a series if you interested in it.

Aftermath (Hurricane, #2) - Jenna-Lynne Duncan {I actually rated AFTERMATH a 4.5 stars but always round up to the next highest star when leaving reviews on sites such as Amazon, goodreads, etc..}

When I first finished HURRICANE I was instantly wanting to read AFTERMATH. And it seemed like forever before AFTERMATH would be released. I had to know where Ana's heart was. Did she really love Hayden like she claimed? Or was there some hidden feelings aching to get out for Luke? And let me tell you...we don't get any answers in this one. At least to me, I felt her feelings were all over the place; so hot and cold. I seriously got motion sickness watching her emotions jump around throughout the story. I will say though, that I believe this happened for a reason. When you read the story you will start to understand why her life is spiraling around like a tornado. Her emotions, her feelings...they are a massive energy about ready to burst at any given second for a very important reason.

So I mentioned that her emotions were all over the place? Well to me it seemed the story was too at times. Well, maybe not so much all over the place...just a lot happens. Like almost too much. In just a short period of time that the book takes place we are thrown from one scene to another with barely enough time to catch our breaths and take in what just happened. But I will say it was enough to keep me on my toes and not put this book down until I was finished. I absolutely inhaled it. I had to know where Duncan was taking this series and nothing was getting in the way of me finishing this book.

Unfortunately, for the answers we did get...many more questions were presented. But that’s okay...Duncan knows what she was doing. She leaves the reader with that same itch, that same want for book 3 like she did for book 2. This story is straight up crack. I need to know what will happen next. So, I beg of you Duncan...don't keep us waiting for our next fix. Pretty please?

Be warned wary readers of love triangles...there is most definitely one in this book. I know some of you don't like them...but me? I love them. Well I love them if the triangle is equal on all sides. You know, where the girl isn’t 100% certain she wants one of the guys…she could possibly have feelings for both? That is how this one is. That is where the hot-and-cold-feelings-that-are-all-over-the-place come in to play. You really truly don't know what Ana wants and it is exciting to see who she will choose...if she chooses.

If you have read HURRICANE AND TEMPEST you know you have to read this one. Right? Absolutely. It's a fact. But if you haven't taken the time to pick up this series, do it now. You are most definitely missing out.

Tempest
Tempest - Jenna-Lynne Duncan Hayden is so conflicted. He knows falling in love with Adriana is the worst possible idea ever, yet he cannot stop the feelings he is has for her. He is drawn to her and has to be near her. And seeing this side of him makes me adore him that much more, because in Hurricane we saw a different Hayden. We saw a Hayden that could be a jerk at times. So seeing him from his POV sheds a new light on what he was going through to have him acting that way.

Tempest gives readers a chance to crawl into Hayden's head and see what all he was thinking when he first came to New Orleans and meets Adriana. I think that if it has been awhile since you first read Hurricane, like it has been for me, then it is a great refresher for the reader. Duncan goes back through the story in Tempest and we are reminded of everything that took place. It is the perfect book to get us ready for Aftermath…and let me tell you…I am so ready to read it!

Hurricane (Hurricane #1) - Jenna-Lynne D... Hurricane (Hurricane #1) - Jenna-Lynne Duncan I went into this book not quite knowing what to expect. The description made me think that the main character had some sort of psychic ability, but the story ended up being a little more than just that. It left a lot of unanswered questions which I suppose it must as this is the first book in a series. I liked the book, but the story progression sometimes felt a little disjointed and did not seem to flow as smoothly. But other than that, it was a good book and I will be reading the next in the series because I am really interested to see what happens next.
