Prologue
”He is the devil!”
Draven de Montague, the fourth earl of Ravenswood, snorted aloud at the conviction in Hugh’s voice as they stood before the throne of King Henry II, while Draven’s brother and one of Hugh’s men stood a few feet behind them. ‘Twas an epitaph he’d heard more times than he could count.
I don't recall the last time that it took ONE paragraph to decide it was a DNF. She should have settled for "insult". Or bought a thesaurus.
The Seduction of Kinley Foster by Lisa Wells
Release date: 5/9/16
About the book:
Librarian Kinley Foster wants to write erotic romance—the steamy, sexy, curl-your-toes kind of stuff. The problem? She desperately needs a little erotic inspiration. And at a romance convention in Vegas, she finds it...or rather him. The sizzlingly sexy guy who refused Kinley—and her virginity—when she was sixteen.
Now it's time for a little payback.
Literary agent Ian Thompson is a professional. Mentoring an aspiring author is one thing. Giving her a thorough and thoroughly satisfying sexy education is quite another. Especially when she's as stunning and deliciously curvaceous as Kinley. Yet Ian can't help himself when Kinley makes him a wager he can't resist. A wager that will tempt Ian to cross every professional—and every sensual—boundary in the book...

“Who are you calling?” Ian asked, giving her a lazy, seductive look.
The words he spoke barely registered. Probably because the way they sounded coming out of his mouth short-circuited her brain and super-charged her girly-parts.
His deep rumbly voice left her feeling naughty. Like scandal and sin were dancing on her soul.
Confused with her body’s betrayal, she glowered. “None of your business.”
“Calling your brother?”
She shrugged. Maybe she was calling her boyfriend. He didn’t now she didn’t have one. Unless her brother told him. “Maybe?”
Disappointment darkened his eyes. “I see you’re still a snitch.” He handed the suitcase to the driver, who stored it in the trunk, and opened the passenger door.
Her determination wavered. Damn him. Why should he be disappointed in her? “Whatever.” He was the bad guy. Not her. She dropped her phone in her purse.
“Thank you,” he said, in a voice that sounded sincere.
She rolled her eyes, not caring that the gesture was childish.
He motioned toward the open door to the backseat. “After you.”
Halfway in, she felt the sharp sting of his hand on her ass.
She inhaled sharply, scrambled the rest of the way in, and turned on him. “How dare you. You can’t just slap a woman’s a**. Especially one who despise you. What the hell—”
The sound of his laughter cut off her tirade, and she grimaced. Damn it. She’d reacted exactly the way he wanted. Just like when he used to pull her ponytail and she’d yelped.
Growing up, he’d been a master at riling her emotions. Not anymore. She was a grown woman, and her buttons were no longer so easily pushed.
He stuck his head in, an amused glint in his smug eyes. “You’ll find I dare a lot. And the swat was for insinuating I’m gay. And so what if I was?” He slid in beside her, scooting much closer than necessary. His shoulder touched her arm; his presence invaded her space.
Grown up Kinley rested the urge to thump him. Besides, if she did, the dramatic action would be more for show. And she prided herself on not being a drama queen.
Truth was, she was semi-turned on by the alpha-male ass-slap.
The Seduction of Kinley Foster by Lisa Wells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Kinley Foster has wanted Ian Thompson for a long time. Over a decade ago, she offered herself up on a platter. After being rejected, her hate for him was obvious.
Ian is still her brothers best friend. He comes to Vegas for business of his own. Willingly messing with Kinley's plans - if it means doing her brother a favor. She wants to kill them both.
This book is full of sexy times. It was a good 2nd chance story, that pulled on my heart strings. There was also a bunch of surprises in store for the reader. Really good, and hard to put down.

It’s August 1994. Brooke Kinley and her brother, Jaime, were paddling their canoe in northeast Minnesota when they noticed a girl apparently running from something or someone. They manage to pick her up from the water she dived into and take her back to their cabin. Before they even talk with her, they notice how young she is and how afraid she appears. They give her dry clothes, food, and a safe place to rest. But, after hearing her story in broken English about her and her friends being abducted from Russia for trafficking purposes, they realize they’re in over their heads and take her to Sheriff Pascoe. They’re not crazy about leaving her there, but they are told that Homeland Security will be contacted and will keep her safe.
Brooke can’t get Anya out of her mind. Something doesn’t feel right. She carries the story to Jack Dawson, editor of the local paper. He’s able to make a couple of calls and quickly determine that, yes, the girl had been picked up, but no, it wasn’t by Homeland Security. As soon as they start making waves, someone tries to take their lives.
Paul Harvey used to say his now-famous tagline, “…And now you know the rest of the story.” In many ways, I feel this prequel of Brooke Kinley tells the rest of her story. In my review of Patriot, I’d said “Brooke Kinley is a go-getter who won’t be intimidated just because there’s danger.” Her strong sense of right and wrong and her unyielding determination was apparent in her character even at eighteen years of age. As a novella, the author wasted no time in getting to the point of the story and into the action. It was remarkably well-planned and well-paced. Brooke Kinley is a strong character and I anticipate a long series. Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
