But does he make house calls?
The Doctor's Secret (Copper Point Medical #1) - Heidi Cullinan,Iggy Toma

When Copper Point's one and only surgical nurse Simon gets talked into picking up Dr. (Jack) Hong-Wei Wu the newest addition to the hospital's staff, the last thing he's expecting is that he's also picking up the newest complication in his life.

Simon's lived in Copper Point all his life only leaving to complete his education and then returning to work in the local hospital alongside Owen and Jared, his current roommates and best friends.

While this didn't turn out to be one of my favorite Heidi Cullinan stories it was still a really enjoyable listening experience and not just because of the solid narration provided by Iggy Toma.

This is only my fourth time listening to an audio book narrated by Iggy Toma and while I'm not sure that I'd say I've warmed up to this narrator quite as much as some others I can also say I've not been disappointed by him and listening to books that he's narrated is by no means a hardship.

I liked Simon with his sweet helpful ways. He was for me the kind of person who should be a nurse being caring and kind was a natural instinct for him and not something that he needed to think about and his passion for Asian pop culture was simply adorable.

Dr. Wu was attracted to Simon the minute he laid eyes on him and every time Simon opened his mouth to speak he fell under Simon's spell a little bit more and yet in spit of this their's was not a case of insta-love and these two men took time to get to know each other and develop a friendship that just naturally progressed into love.

While Simon wants to stay in the closet in order to keep his job. Dr. Wu is determined to see where things go with him and Simon and without having it cost Simon his job. The biggest drama in Simon and Jack's relationship is the hospital's 'no fraternizing' policy that sees employee's fired as soon as a transgression occurs...which, really? In a small town, and this is a small town, it's like asking for a staffing shortage. Sadly the stringent enforcement of this rule was a very real fear for Simon to have. But what Simon doesn't realize is that when you live in a small town like this and you work in an environment such as a hospital people become a very close knit group...almost like family and when things get tough...well, family true family always has your back.

I enjoyed Simon and Jack's story and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them as the series continues and we get Owen and Jared's stories...what can I say this is the beauty of audio books they come out after a book is written and the reader/listener gets to know what's coming next.

The Doctor's Baby Secret (Mills & Boon Medical)
The Doctor's Baby Secret (Mills & Boon M... The Doctor's Baby Secret (Mills & Boon Medical) - Scarlet Wilson I went into Austin and Corrine's story with the mindset that I was going to hate this story. Am not a fan of medical dramas. Heck I turn the channel whenever Grey's Anatomy is on. Ms. Wilson changed my viewpoint with this honest and adorable story. Austin likes to live on the edge. The thrill of taking a chance gives him the feeling of accomplishment and he never gets bored. It's worked in his favor so far, why change. Corrine has a slightly less dynamic view of his extreme antics. He needs to grow up and get serious. Having received an ARC of The Doctor's Secret Baby in exchange for an honest review, I decided to take my cue from Austin and try something new. It's hard not to fall for a sexy pilot with something to prove. Along the way I learned something from him. Don't judge, live life to the fullest and surprises are around ever corner. Not only did he and Corrine learn from each other, they doled out great advice in an unforgettable way. Scarlet Wilson made me like a medical romance, not an easy feat.

Er, is it a DNF when you say "fuck this!" with five minutes left?
Animal Attraction - Jill Shalvis

This book started off so well. At least much better than the first book. There was definitely a spark of something there between the hero and heroine more than sex. I appreciated that. Then when they did have sex it was the only scene for the longest time, there was even a judicious FTB. Then a flipped was switched and it seemed that suddenly Shalvis felt she needed to make up for less sex later in the book and there was more for no reason. Also, I really dislike when books end on sex scenes. It is infinitely worse when the book is needlessly extended to shove in yet another elongated, overly descriptive sex scene. Eight minutes left in the book and does the heroine take the hero to meet her family while they are in Chicago? Nope. Is there a cute little scene where she's showing him the city I doubt he's ever been to while the story sweetly fades into their HEA? Nooope.

Sex.

Sexsexsexsexsexsexsex because apparently THAT'S ALL THERE EVER IS ON EARTH AND GOD FORBID WE SEPARATE ROMANCE FROM IT.

Like another book I just finished reading. They get snowbound together. They really only just met, so do they talk for awhile, get to know each other? OF COURSE NOT. No, fifteen, FIFTEEN, pages of sex scene and then two lines at the end of the chapter that says they talked. THAT IS COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE OF HOW A ROMANCE NOVEL SHOULD BE, DAMMIT!!!

*heavy breathing*

*glares at books*

"Romance" genre I love you, but you are on such thin ice with me.

The Doctor's Accidental Family - Jacqueline Diamond (HAR#1563 - Sept 2015)
The Doctor's Accidental Family (Safe Harbor Medical) - Jacqueline Diamond

Series: Safe Harbor Medical (Book 16)

SINGLE DAD DILEMMA

After a disastrous relationship, Nurse Zady Moore just wants a family of her own and a guy with no baggage. With a young, vulnerable son, Dr. Nick Davis is exactly the kind of guy she should avoid. But his offer is too good -- free rent in exchange for occasional babysitting. And it comes at the right time, just as Zady's young goddaughter comes to stay with her. It's only for six months -- surely she can resist Nick's charms.

Nick likes Zady, and he enjoys the camaraderie of chasing after two little kids with her. But she works for his hated cousin, and with a battle brewing between departments at Safe Harbor Medical, can Nick trust that Zady's loyalties lie with him?

Good book. Nick has recently moved to Safe Harbor to make a better life for his son. He gained custody of Caleb when the boy's mother died, but until he can get settled the child is living with his grandparents. When their health problems necessitate a faster arrangement, Nick strikes a deal with Zady, to share his house and childcare duties.

Zady is wary of getting involved with Nick. She had recently left a long relationship with a man who'd had two children. Though she'd cared for the kids for years, they had treated her badly, then she caught him cheating on her. Though she badly wants a family of her own, she is determined to avoid men with that kind of baggage. But when Zady is asked to take care of her goddaughter for a few weeks, she decides that sharing space with Nick is a practical solution.

I liked Zady. She has a wonderful relationship with her goddaughter who is a pretty sweet child. She wants to be a good caregiver for Caleb, and I had to admire her patience with the kid. He could be a real brat. She is also an excellent nurse, and though she works for Nick's cousin and knows they don't get along, works hard to keep her personal and professional lives separate. Spending as much time as she does with Nick and Caleb, she begins to get attached and dream of a future with them.

I liked Nick, but he has some deeper issues that really created problems. First is his problem with his cousin. I could understand his resentment when he was younger, but really felt that he should be able to handle things better as an adult. Some of his actions seemed rather childish at times. Though Marshall wasn't exactly friendly, he seemed much more willing to leave the past behind. There was an interesting twist involving him at the end. Second, because of the way his father abandoned Nick and his mother when Nick was a child, he tends to require the people around him to demonstrate their loyalty to him. Because Zady works for his cousin, he is constantly on the watch for her to do something he considers against his interests. Finally, he has the problem of dealing with Caleb's grandparents. He feels guilty about leaving Caleb with them, and as a result tends to be excessively accommodating to their wishes. Once Caleb is with him and Zady moves in, he hopes that things will settle out, but there's more trouble to come with them.

The attraction between Zady and Nick is there from the beginning, though both try to resist it. Living together as if they were a family has both dreaming of what could be. When they give in to that attraction, those dreams grow stronger. But Zady's problems with Caleb cause her to doubt her ability as a mother. When problems at the hospital spill over onto their relationship, Nick's trust issues have him doubting her loyalty. Nick says some terrible things to her before he realizes his mistake. The ending was pretty sweet, with both Nick and Caleb making their cases to Zady.

I liked seeing past characters from the series in this book. It is always fun to catch up on what is going on in their lives. The hospital issue was interesting, as was the way various people were dealing with it. I'm looking forward to the next book and seeing what's going to happen with Marshall.
