Humor takes a backseat to heart. Minor Trouble aims for emotions. Archer tackles the story of a father and son in all it's glory. Seth and Noah are a work in progress as dramatic as it is heartbreaking. Brought together by tragedy this duo has a lot to learn about themselves, each other and what makes a family. It takes an outsider with a soft heart to heal the rift between this father and son and perhaps find a hint of happiness of her own in the process. From slow burn to heartaching, Ainsley, Seth and Noah creep up on your blindside and find a permanent home in your heart.

REVIEW:

A delightfull novella involving a 12 yearl old mage, a snarky armadillo familiar, and a mission to get rain for the drought-stricken village from the Cloud Herders.  The story includes subtle humour, monsters, helpful pigs, new friends, not so helpful people, and a slight spoof on the Grimm Brothers Singing Bone fairytale.

NOTE:  This is a kiddies book regardless of what opinion Ursula Vernon's (T. Kingfisher's) editors and publishers think.

DNF at page 100. I got bored and started skimming ahead, which I usually avoid, but in this case it saved me a few wasted hours of reading. I thought after the last book that maybe McCall Smith was running out of ideas, but it turns out he was keeping at least one up his sleeve, and it’s one of my least favorite things to come across in a book (or anywhere, for that matter).

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhh.

Fluffy and goofy skimming romance that was a fun little escape. He plays baseball, we get some pitches thrown to the catcher and first baseman, she's a flight instructor, we get some sexist pilots not wanting to learn from her, and a whole lot of '80s movie quotes/references with some quick cute romance. Secondary characters bring a little tiny bit of angst but this is mostly cute non-taxing escapism.
