Kounodori (1) (Morning KC) ISBN: 4063872270 (2013) [Japanese Import] - Yu Suzunoki; So good... stories about pregnant women, about women who did not want a baby, women who wanted a baby more than anything in the world. The art is funny, original, unpleasant to the eyes at first, but it gets unnoticed as the story progress because you get involved with what is going to happen with the mother, what is going to happen with the premature baby... I loved it. To think I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for the dorama (I was looking for what to watch next, and the plot looked nice. I decided to read the manga first, so glad I did!). I also loved the little drawings the author posted that his son did when he was a little boy, so cute XD

The Second Summer of the Sisterhood - Ann Brashares
There were times when I lost my patience with all girls (except with Bridget). Carmen was as insufferable as always, being selfish with the boy she was dating and being jealous with her mother who was starting to date again. Tibby was mean to her friend Brian, who was so nice to her, only to impress her new friends in college. She also made a bad film about her mother -regretting about it later, but the deed was done-. Lena was hot and cold with her ex-boyfriend Kostos; she cut all ties with him, yet she still was pinning for him, and once they get back together, she was obsessed about him.

Bridget was undercover in her grandma's place, but she was OK. She was trying to figure out things about her dead mom, and in the meantime, got herself a new mom: her grandma.

But I love the friendship between these girls, you can feel the closeness between them. They spent almost the entire book apart, yet they never forget each other and have the other 3 girls constantly in their minds. I wanted the girls to solve their problems, especially the one with their mothers (each one of them has a problem related to her mom). Each one of them changed by the end of the book, they learn their lessons, and they continue to support each other. I love that. I wish I had these kind of girlfriends when I was growing up.

I love the end, with the picture of their younger mothers. It was touching.

We Need to Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver

Starts really slow. Or better said, it was a drag, to be honest. I was waiting impatiently for Kevin to be born. Eva's voice was OK but the way it was narrated... all over the place. It is when Kevin is born that things get interesting.

The movie was good, but now that I've read the book, I think they made Eva wrong. She was not a cold-heart princess; she truly loved her husband, and tried to get closer to Kevin. On the other hand, Kevin is such a complex character every reader will have her/his own point of view in regards to his behavior.

IMO, it was not Eve's fault that Kevin was that way. It is very easy to blame it on the parents, but because the parents do not want to be parents, or in this case, because the mother could not love her own son, does that mean that all loveless children will turn into serial killers? No, not necessarily. It seems like Kevin is a psychopath since he is born.. no baby and no normal kid would act that way only to annoy her/his cold mother. His way of acting, of speaking, of thinking.. everything leads to think he is a psycho. But then that incident occurs, where he is sick and acts like a normal boy, and it makes you doubt. Does he care for his mother? Is it all an act? His feelings towards his mother is the big mystery; all the other (his feelings for his father and sister and society) is not.

Hotaru No Hikari Vol.4 [Japanese Edition] - Satoru Hiura

Enter Kaname, who is totally different from the dorama-Kaname.

The story declined a little bit. I don't know, maybe because there was not enough interaction between Buchou and Hotaru. Ergo, less funny moments.

Battle Royale - Koushun Takami,Yuji Oniki

Manga was OK... I liked it.

Movie was awesome... I loved it.

Novel is as awesome as the movie... or maybe even more. The movie and the novel complement each other; one for the visual, and the other for the background history.

42 students that enter in the Program, only 1 can survive. There may be too many students, but we get to know each one of them. I loved that; that they are not random characters that kill and get killed. And each kill was.. WOW. So gore, so violent and all different from each other.

Not only Shuya is the MC, but Noriko, Shogo [(although I knew beforehand of his death, I was in denial.. why did he have to die? He was a great character )], Shinji as well... The death of the girls are so memorable (Takako's, the girls at the lighthouse...) WOW

I may say that the only tiny thing I liked better in the movie is Sakamochi. In the novel, he is a crazy, sadistic, rapist psycho (just like in the manga). In the movie, he (at least that we know of), does not rape anyone.

Excellent book, that does not get lost in translation at all
