EXCERPT - BLIND FAITH

Josh stared at the woman before him. If ever there was any doubt he’d hooked up with someone too young, the look in Tish’s eyes at that moment cured him of it. She hadn’t been hanging out here, shitting her panties over her makeup being broken or her clothes being dirty because a bad man had touched them. She’d been trying to figure out the next logical step; medical care for whoever needed it—she’d thought that might be him and her concern was beautiful—a surface or deep clean to get the house in shape again, a possible insurance claim. He lifted a finger, and, ignoring his body as it burned as hot for her as his heart, he explained a couple of things. “One. The next time you wanna yell at me, you keep that shit under wraps until we’re alone. You understand?” She glanced around and only then seemed to notice the volume of voices out in the kitchen had gone real low. She looked properly horrified, so he went on. “Two. I will not call in a report to you. Not ever. But if you want to send a text next time to make sure your old man isn’t dead, feel free. I’ll happily answer it.” “Three. I’m sorry. I was totally blowing you off, and I get how insulting that is. Forgive me.” She went to move toward him, but he held up his spread fingers. “Four.” He leaned his upper body into her, close enough that the sweetness of vanilla trailed under his nostrils. “I am your big bad man, and I have every fucking right to put you on that shelf. Only, in my head, it’s a pedestal, and I’ll jam you up there and keep every fucking secret in the world from you if I think it will make your life better. Why? Because I want you happy more than I want you informed. You’re gonna have to get used to that because it’s not gonna change no matter how much you bitch and moan about it. Got it? Tish?” She nodded, her mouth tight. “And, five, where the fuck did you see a dead body?” “When we were in Phoenix, my mom once made a buy off a dealer who lived under a bridge. As she sampled the shit, then exchanged drugs for money, I stared at a naked woman lying spread-eagled on a dirty mattress in the corner. Her eyes stared back, and I made a game of waiting to see how long it would be before her chest moved. My mom dragged me away before it could, so I guess the woman won.” Josh’s soul crumpled and wept as it did every time she casually shared one of her stories. He slid his fingers into her hair and tipped her head back with his thumbs under her jaw. “I’m sorry, Tish-Tosh,” he whispered. “You don’t know how badly I want to give you a new past.” Her entire face compressed. “I’m angry with you, Josh. You’re not supposed to say stuff like that.” “Sorry, babe. I’m trying here.” He brought their mouths together and apologized with a slow kiss that turned into something more the second she got her hands under his shirt. The heat from her palms was a tease, but he could have handled that. The scrape of her fingernails as she focused on a spot above his belt buckle, no. She wanted in his pants. And he wanted to give her what she wanted. A loud bang killed the mood. “Food’s ready!” Holding Tish to him, he leaned over and threw the door open. Chase stood there with his hand over his eyes, but his fingers were separated. The cacophony going on behind him was once again at full level. He gave them the once over then looked at the clothes littered all over the floor. “You’ll have to learn to multi-task, Tish. Least you could have done while showing off your brass balls is wash your uncle’s jeans.” He walked off laughing. “Fuckin’ idiot,” Josh muttered as he took Tish’s hand and brought it to his cock. Her quiet gasp was the sweetest thing. “Squeeze me.” She gripped him, and contracted her hand, making it an experience when she did it with little pulses that unknowingly mimicked a coming pussy. Pride showed in her smile when he groaned. “You want that?” “Yes, even though I’m still sort of mad, I’d take you.” “I’ll give it to you after church. If we can get away with it, we’re spending the day in bed tomorrow.” She looked excited and skeptical all at once. “In my uncle’s house?” He nodded and looked at the empty doorway, smirking. “Yeah. And I’m gonna make you scream the fuckin’ place down. Twenty bucks says he and Chase stay away for the duration. We’ll toss our dirty sheets on top of all this shit,” he added, thinking that might be a nice touch. Tish’s cheeks flamed, and she was still laughing as she pulled him out of the house. She led him around a table loaded down with empanadas, grilled steaks, ribs and burgers, and his favorite; Mesquite-smoked, bacon-wrapped Sonoran dogs. He held their plates while Tish filled them, and didn’t miss how the discreet looks from Beth and Fiona turned into relieved smiles when they saw Tish happy. Because they knew her story, they all wanted her in a good place. Lucky for him, he was the chosen one who would get her there.

EXCERPT - BLIND FAITH

Without any other options, Elaine hesitantly handed Harry over then darted toward the restrooms. Tish looked down at the sleeping baby and, of course, she smiled like a loon because his nose was a tiny button and his eyelashes were gorgeous. As she slowly made her way back to Josh, she adjusted Harry’s blanket where it had slipped, and pulled his paci from dangling over her hand. It was clipped on, but she wanted it handy. “Sorry,” she murmured as she slid back into the booth. “I couldn’t leave her hanging. That was Ben’s wife; the guy whose notes I borrowed earlier.” Her voice, which wasn’t Harry’s mother’s, coaxed him into opening his sleepy brown eyes. “Hi, sweet pea,” she cooed. “Mommy just had to go take care of some business. She’ll be back soon, and then you can go with her to my school and listen while she rags on your daddy for not answering her calls.” His eyes rolled, and he went back under, totally uninterested. She laughed, as enamored now as she’d been when she’d first met him when he was only a few days old. “I’ll get on my goddamn hands and knees and beg if you want me to, Tish, but, please, have mercy on me and let me fuck a baby into you.” A bolt of something delicious exploded between her legs as her head snapped up. Josh was staring at her with honest-to-goodness moisture swimming in his eyes. “Oh…my…God.” Hearing the shocked whisper, Tish was sure she felt something in her neck crack from how fast her head then whipped to the side. Elaine stood next to their table, her jaw hanging, her eyes like saucers as she gaped at Josh. Tish laughed nervously. “You all set? You look great. Can’t even tell you were crying.” Elaine gave no indication she’d heard her. “He, uh, he’s a little intense.” Tish reached out and patted her friend’s hand. “It’s okay, though. He’s harmless.” With her face turning fire engine red, Elaine twittered like she should have a fan fluttering over her face. “'Kay. Er, wow. I sure wish Ben had said something like that to me before we got pregnant. All I got was a worried ‘I think we can make it work if we really scrimp and save.'' Tish giggled because she could so hear Ben saying that. “He’s very sexy,” Elaine added under her breath, speaking to Tish as though Josh wasn’t within perfect hearing distance. She was staring right at him! “In a scary, sort of wicked way.” She cleared her throat and seemed to snap out of a trance. Her hand came out to touch Harry’s belly. “Got a baby with mine, though,” she said as though reminding herself. Her next high-pitched laugh was embarrassed. “I’ll, um, be as quick as I can, Tish.” She bumped her hip into a table as she rushed down the narrow aisle and out the door. Grinning, Tish watched out the window to make sure Elaine made it across the street and into the insurance broker’s office building without being hit by a bus. “Told you women love you,” she teased as her lower belly continued to flutter. “I guess now you know how the proud lion feels being gawked at in the zoo.” “I wasn’t kidding, babe. Are you on the pill?” It was her turn to gape. “Shh! Josh!" She glanced around. "I’m not coming in public with you again if you don’t find an inside voice.” “I haven’t made you come in public yet. Are you?” he pressed. She shivered. “Yes.” She hadn’t taken today’s yet but would as soon as they got home. With how often he’d come inside her last night—she shivered again—now probably wasn’t the time to get sloppy. Probably? The knowledge that one of her eggs could be caught and mauled by one of Josh’s sperm should alarm her, but it fucking didn’t! Why? That possibility would have freaked her out only twenty-four hours ago. But now? Nothing. “Toss them.” Okay. She hid a cringe and wanted to kick that excited inner voice for wanting to obey his every command. “I think I’m going to tickle Harry’s feet to wake him. When he starts bawling, I’ll hand him over and go sit outside. Then we’ll see how keen you are on the idea of impregnating me.” He groaned. Loud enough to make people turn and look. “When you’re in front of me, I love that fuckin’ word. Seriously. You think I’m a pig now, wait until you have a round belly and those beautiful tits get heavy.” He groaned again and lowered his voice. “Everyone who sees you will know how deep you let me into you. They’ll know who owns you and the baby you carry. Pregnant women are horny women, right?” To her surprise, he slid out of the booth, his face drawn, shoulders tight, and left her sitting alone with the baby. Again, she found herself looking out the window after the bell above the door jangled. He hopped down the stairs and stalked around the corner of the building. Man, his body was gorgeous. Feeling feverish, she absently stroked her thumb down Harry’s velvety cheek. “I think Uncle Josh is riding the crazy train, Harrison.” As something deep between her legs clenched with need, she added, “And I’m afraid Auntie Tish is thinking about hitching a ride on the caboose.”

Ultimate Vengeance by Nancy Haviland
Ultimate Vengeance (Wanted Men Book 4) - Nancy Haviland

I read this for the Second Chances square for Romance Bingo.

"You're my greatest weakness and my greatest strength."

Y'all. I'm so ridiculously entertained by this series and world the author has created. This is a second chance romance because the hero orchestrated a scene where the heroine thought he was cheating on her because he thought his world was too dangerous for her. I know, I know, Drama-lama but while there are a few romanclandia roll-eye tropes, I completely let them slide on by because of overall enjoyment of characters and story.

I think I mentioned this in a review for another in the series but there are times where the sheer amount of characters and connecting off-shoot storylines gets a bit overwhelming, you need to start at the beginning with this series, but man oh man, I am eating it up with a spoon.

We don't initially get to see Alek and Sacha fall in love or their first meetings, some reminiscing about it, and the romance has a different feel and structure from the usual romance step-by-step. I missed some aspects of the usual route, cheesy romance moments or excitement of firsts but the deeper, real, and dealing with hurts did a great job of making up for it.

With Russian mafia, Italian mafia, Romanian mafia, and MCs (see why I mention an overwhelming feeling sometimes) there is definitely something for everyone. The plethora of characters and storylines is crazy but the author does an amazing job of keeping a pretty tight rein on things. You may find some coincidences or situations a bit unbelievable but you'll go along with it because like I said, it's so gosh entertaining. I love the myriad things there are to keep track of.

The romance might suffer a bit for some because of all the plots going on I mentioned but only enough for me to take away half a star.

THAT ENDING.

Safe to say I'll be sticking with this series and am dying for Lucian's story.
I guess I should also give a fair warning that this one is a little gory, let's just say Vlad the Impaler must be a relative of Lucian. I'm a horror movie lover who has watched more than my fair share of slashers, so I didn't mind the sometime descriptions of acts carried out in vengeance.
Give me MOAR of this series.

Grievous (Wanted Men Book 5)
Grievous (Wanted Men Book 5) - Nancy Haviland Link to full review below! Different from the previous books. Lucian is VERY difficult to like. Salvaging his character will certainly take more than 1 book! The relationship between these two is disturbing at times. This review was originally posted on The Book Disciple

An Obsession with Vengeance (Wanted Men Book 3) - Nancy Haviland

Sydney found she was pregnant at seventeen . her parents wanted her to get an abortion but she wanted to keep her child from the minute she knew she was pregnant. Sydney toke off from her parents mansion and didn’t look back. Sydney was now in NYC and her son Andrew was twelve. Sydney’s best friend had overdosed and Sydney had found her since she could Sydney brought drugs once a month and destroyed them so the people that came to her club would not have the same ending. Maks is a mobster who owns a gentleman’s club and he wants Sydney.

I could not get into this story in any way. It was just to unrealistic . i don’t see much reality in this story. I just could not finish the story as it did not hold my interest in any way.

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
