'Deck of Omens' picks up right where 'Devouring Gray' left off, with the Hawthornes and all of Four Paths aghast at Harper's vengeance.

Even in the peculiar world of this town the law doesn't touch magical actions, but there is a definite shift in power even as a new threat rises up from the Gray. Corruption is taking the trees of the forest from the inside out and, after Violet and Isaac try to strike at the Beast, the infection crosses over to people.

Further complications occur when other members of the Founders families begin to return to town. There is more family drama, surprise identity reveals, and so many feelings. Parents and kids just don't understand each other or their feelings.

This book gets to the heart of every mystery raised, but left me still wanting more. This series could easily have been expanded beyond two books, but its nice to see the series wrapped up.
 

Four Paths

Previous: 'The Devouring Gray'

Fantastic!  This was an excellent listen.  Great story; good narration and just fun.  An Angel and Demon living through the ages of the world and becoming best friends while doing it.  And together they help avert the apocalypse.  It was simply brilliant.

Oooh -- Aziraphale and Crowley.  It's very simple:

* The eternal teenager inside me roots for Crowley.  I don't think I'll ever outgrow tall, dark and handsome bad boys who aren't really bad at heart.

* The book lover inside me roots for Aziraphale.  I mean, how could any book lover not root for the owner of a bookstore?

And of course, however slick I may find this year's screen adaptation, there is absolutely no question that David Tennant and Martin Sheen are Crowley and Aziraphale.

Then again, by way of decidedly more than a side note, I also root for Agnes -- far and away the most kick-ass of all the book's female characters.

Sydney Park has endured her curse of knowing how things will end before they even begin since she was a child which wreaks havoc with her dating life. Blake Beaumont’s ability of reading the past in objects has caused more trouble than he cares to admit. While opening the Museum of the Macabre, he joins forces with Sydney’s tour company and he can’t help but jump at the chance to rekindle their relationship. When Sydney has a vision of a closed casket funeral, she knows someone she loves is going to die. And if they can’t unravel the mystery, their haunted pasts will eclipse any chance of a future.

Be prepared for some chills, heart pounding suspense and a haunting mystery during this exhilarating romance. The characters are strong and demand attention from the readers as they race against time to stop Sydney’s vision from coming true. The chemistry between Sydney and Blake is enough to light up Bourbon Street but this relationship has a past and it didn’t end on a great note, so the story is full of emotional turmoil from the relationship and from their respective gifts that cause their lives quite a bit of trouble.

The plot of this story is fast paced and readers can’t help but become carried away with all the knuckle biting suspense that constantly builds throughout this thrilling story. It just keeps building and building and building…(oops wrong rabbit!!!). Mardi Gras is a perfect setting for this story which adds spice and the Ghost Tours in New Orleans makes a fabulous connection to haunting mystery. The story is full of twists and turns and readers can’t take their eyes from the pages because there is no way to know who the bad guy is or if there even is one.
