As the final book in the Cavendish series I really wasn't that enthused over the entire thing. The sad thing is, its written very well and its a great series but the whole fact that Lawrence has this attraction to Rosa the entire time not knowing that she's actually a woman while disguised as a man then he goes balls deep into la la land the second he finds out that she's a woman despite all the dead giveaway's that she actually is a woman yet its insta-love the moment he realizes it?

Okay, so that totally didn't make sense, I know. But that's how it is in the book.

Rosa dresses as a man to finish up some last minute business her now deceased father left behind. Lawrence comes in all haughty as you please snob and a half walking about as if his shit don't stink fights this constant pull toward Rosa while dressed as a man is a ten ton jerk and half most the time he's around her then the moment its revealed that Rosa is really a she  or rather she's the one who has been dressing as a man in court Lawrence goes haywire and can't way to get to happy land the second he finds out about it.

Seriously its like he can't wait to rip off their clothes just to pound into her how angry/happy he is about being deceived and it being revealed but can't fight the pull of love the moment he has her. Talk about leading with the wrong brain.

Yet, despite the whole love thing the minor I'm going to punish you for lying deal was total BS... I call BS!!

Why should she have to apologize to him for what he did to her? How is that right?

I'm not calling the sexism reverse roll thing but he's the one who was a complete dick. She should have sent his ass packing not fall all over him in weepy dismay begging for his forgiveness! No! She should have had him crawling on his knees for her.

But that's what irks me about these period girls because they are just so quick to be someones doormat that it makes me want to shred the book to pieces.

In the end Bedchamber Games wasn't one of my favorites in this series I just hope we don't get any repeat stories like this in the future.

Having not read the others in the series or other books by this author, the beginning of this with all the past characters from other books gave it a really rough start for me; the huge cast dominated and stole away from the hero and heroine. The hero was probably a more realistic man of his times than we sometimes see in romance and I do think the relationship with the heroine changed him for the better but we never really got to see that. Sometimes his older man of the world clashed uncomfortably with her young naive heart of gold but in the second half, when they were together, they played off each other well. They don't really spend a lot of time together and with some time skips we are only told, they have a fun teasing relationship develop instead of seeing it. I definitely was left wanting with seeing and experiencing them together. Their ending fight was so ridiculous and a major much to do about nothing and made it eye-rolling frustrating, making me end with a less than pleased feeling. Overall, I liked the writer's style and flow but I definitely needed the couple to spend more time together. I'll be trying this author again :)

His lips twitched as if he was suddenly of a mind to laugh.

 

Ok, I did a bit of catch up reading to where I originally planned on being today. I've read to the end of chapter 13.

I totally agree it has had a bit of a slow start. The big cast you both mentioned is definitely impeding the flow for me. I haven't read the rest in the series so I'm getting that lost feeling at times too Andrea. Gabriel is coming off a bit jerkbutt I think due to his more experience and Esme having a young innocent vibe to her. The chapter I ended on looks to be the beginning of them finally having some alone time and this will hopefully rev things up. It sounds like I might be enjoying this a little bit more than you two, though. I'm trying to be cognizant of that fact that my feeling drained mood might be affecting my reading so I could be overcompensating with enthusiasm, too.

I love serendipitous meetings like this; the scandalous excitement, lol.
Esme seems sweet but maybe a little head in the clouds and oblivious, hard to tell this early.
I haven't read the others in the series but a wee bit overwhelming with all the characters, especially the sheer amount of her brothers!
This is so far reminding and giving me the feeling of one of the Bridgertons or Pennyroyal Green books :)
