RELEASE BLITZ Unworthy by A.K. Evans

Title: Unworthy
Series: Cunningham Security #6
Author: A.K. Evans
Genre: Contemporary Romance
with a touch of suspense
Release Date: August 27, 2019

Blurb

Sometimes your first love needs a second chance…

A boy from the wrong side of the tracks, Trent Michaels never cared what anyone thought of him. That is, until the girl he fell in love with broke his heart in the worst way possible.

Delaney Rogers knows she made the biggest mistake of her life when she allowed Trent to walk away from her. So, when Trent unknowingly rescues her baby fifteen years later, Delaney’s relieved she’ll finally have the chance to make things right.

The only problem is that Trent can’t bear to look at the woman he loved and lost. The woman who now realizes just how much damage she’s done.

Following a series of accidental encounters, Trent soon realizes that everything is not as it seems. And Delaney is hoping for a second chance to prove that it wasn’t him who was unworthy.

It was her.

Another fabulous addition to the Cunningham Security series. Compared to the rest of the series this is a pretty easy romance there wasn't a lot of suspense, there could have been and I kept waiting for it to happen but everything was resolved peacefully, or somewhat peacefully. Most of the issues are internal conflict dealing with past mistakes, regrets, and forgiveness.

Delaney and Trent were each others first loves, the beginning of the books we see them meet, fall in love, and ultimately fall apart. A decade and a half later and they find themselves back in each others lives again. Delaney is going through a messy divorce and has a seven month old child, Tate. After Trent finds out what really happened all those years ago nothing is going to keep him from finally getting his HEA with Delaney.

Trent and Delaney have two physical obstacles, her soon-to-be-ex husband and her father, as well as the very big obstacle of Delaney herself, mentally anyways. It was a good quick read that can be read as a stand alone and is told in alternating first person POV. I wish it had a bit more suspense to it like some of her previous books, because A.K. Evans is really good with the added suspense. But this series is definitely I would, and have, recommended to friends.

A.K. Evans is a married mother of two boys residing in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Lafayette College in 2004 with two degrees (one in English and one in Economics & Business). Following a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry, Evans realized the career was not for her and went on to manage her husband’s performance automotive business. She even drove the shop’s race cars! Looking for more personal fulfillment after eleven years in the automotive industry, Andrea decided to pursue her dream of becoming a writer.

While Andrea continues to help administratively with her husband’s businesses, she spends most of her time writing and homeschooling her two boys. When she finds scraps of spare time, Evans enjoys reading, doing yoga, watching NY Rangers hockey, dancing, and vacationing with her family. Andrea, her husband, and her children are currently working on taking road trips to visit all 50 states (though, Alaska and Hawaii might require flights).

Review of "Undead and Unworthy" (Undead aka Queen Betsy, #7) by MaryJanice Davidson
Undead and Unworthy - MaryJanice Davidson

This reader's personal opinion, ©2018, all rights reserved, not to be quoted, clipped or used in any way by goodreads, Google Play, amazon.com or other commercial booksellers*

Overall, glad I revived this abandoned series.  It's supposed to be funny/silly and still was. Queen Betsy is still too self-involved (and -- not naming names or detailing to avoid spoilers -- a character dies saving her TSTL butt).  Random sex acts still seem less erotic than "look how cool we are still going at it.".

I would have DNF'ed if the death scene(s) had been in beginning chapters; Betsy not worth the sacrifice.  I did read mentally preparing myself to just treat fashion designer brand dropping as a running gag.  I very quickly remembered the characters.  Even quicker what amused or annoyed me about this series.

I do do wish the ghost of the dead stepmother who is haunting her hadn't spent a whole book hinting at crap we still don't know.  Not main storyline so not exactly a cliffhanger, but got annoying.

I'll toss in some quotes to give you an idea of some Pros and Cons.

Pro:

but . . . really, I was okay until we found her head.

“When I want your opinion, Barbie, I’ll pull the string on your back.”

Then my dead stepmother said, “This is all your fault, Betsy, and I’m not going anywhere until you fix it.” [well, initially funny except "it" never explained]

I was beginning to see where this was going. Oh, it’d be a lovely children’s book: Garrett the Fiend Finds Friends!

Yeah, it’s cool, but then you’ve got dead vampire in your hair for hours.

“They’re awake,” he gasped. “And they want to kill you.” “Who?” Sinclair, Jessica, Marc, and I asked in unison. It could be anyone. The guys who delivered pizza from Green Mill. Other vampires. The Ant’s book club. Werewolves. Zombies. And, of course, the uninvited guest who’d jumped out the window. So many enemies, so little—

Con:

He yanked, and my (cashmere! argh) sweater tore down the middle. He shoved, and my skirt (Ann Taylor) went up. He pulled, and my panties (Target) went who knew where.

“Whaaaat?” I whined, moodily pulling off my Herrera boots.

And yes, I was still wearing my Marc Jacobs heels, which helped.

I said grimly, hands on hips. Richard’s black blood dripped slowly onto my—oh no!—Ann Taylor linen pants.

Eventually I will read more in series now it's available in library ebooks.

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Average.   Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked or meh? but kept reading in hopes would improve.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." If author is going batshit crazy in the blogosphere over reviews -- I now know why they are getting bad reviews.  Or maybe author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)

Just starting
Undead and Unworthy - MaryJanice Davidson

I abandoned buying this series after six books.

Main character changed too much, got too snooty and self-involved.  The type of hypocrisy where okay if done by her or to others but heaven forbid others do same or it happens to her or her loved ones.

My library has added the series.  Thought I'd try to continue because I really enjoyed book one and some later books have sounded interesting on my feed.

Depressing as shit
The Unworthy Thor (The Unworthy Thor (2016-2017)) - Jason Aaron,Olivier Coipel

And not in the fun let's ruin someone's life so we can see how, say, Daredevil reacts when we strip him of everything and it turns out his girlfriend sold him out for drugs.   No, in the 'I'm unworthy, what's the point' existential kind of way that just made me want this to fucking end.

Like put Thor, and me, out of our misery.

Still, gorgeous illustrations, epic storyline with The Collector and travel by Goat.   So I enjoyed some parts of this, especially the flashbacks, and talks with, Jane Foster.   I kinda ship Jane and Thor.
