City of Brass
The City of Brass - S.A. Chakraborty

First, I would like to say I am glad I had someone read this to me, because some of these names, locations and titles were incomprehensible to me.

Now, as for the story, I loved the imagery. The vibrant world and history. But I found this plot wordy and dense. And when it was over, I was also left with a whole lot of unanswered questions. It seemed the plot meandered and snaked, which wouldn't normally be bad. But in this case, I felt like sometimes it forgot what it was trying to convey.

The characters were at least varied. We had the leading man, the womanizing secretly gay prince, the uptight warrior, the political king, the snobby princess. This book covered the whole gamete.

If there is a second in this series, I don't know if I will bother with it.

Edit: This is a trilogy. The second is called The Kingdom of Copper, and from the blurb I'm not interested much at all.

I am not okay
Saga Volume 9 - Fiona Staples,Brian K. Vaughan

I am grieving. Comics shouldn't make you grieve.

And I can't even find out what's going to happen because Saga is on hiatus!

Magnus Chase and the Sarcastic, Casually Racist Sword
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book One: The Sword of Summer (Rick Riordan's Norse Mythology) - Christopher Guetig,Rick Riordan

I enjoy these books. They're mindless reads that can actually inform you about history and mythology you wouldn't normally learn about.

But Magnus seems to be a blonde Percy Jackson. And nobody can be Percy but Percy. Them's just the facts.

Power of the Dark Crystal v3
Jim Henson's The Power of the Dark Crystal Volume 3 - Phillip Kennedy Johnson,Nichole Matthews,Kelly Matthews,Simon Spurrier

What a great way to finish the series! I hate that it's over. The art was fantastic, and the plot was so perfect. I am so happy this script was finally put out into the world in some form.

The Star-Touched Queen (minor spoilers)
The Star-Touched Queen - Roshani Chokshi

Okay, so I am not reviewing this blasted book. I will tell you exactly the problem with it shortly and concisely. All the bad things could have been avoided from the beginning if Amar had simply told his lovie love "Yo, we used to be married and madly in love. I'm the ruler of death basically, and you were my queen. But we had a fight and you left to be reincarnated as a human, so you lost your memories. I'm here to get you."

An entire book could have been avoided with COMMUNICATION.

The only redeeming factor was the sarcastic flesh-eating horse demon at the end.

I fucking hate books where they play the "let's all keep a shit ton of secrets and then be shocked bad things happen" game.

But the world itself was pretty. And the horse. Loved the horse.
