The Star-Touched Queen (minor spoilers)
The Star-Touched Queen - Roshani Chokshi

Okay, so I am not reviewing this blasted book. I will tell you exactly the problem with it shortly and concisely. All the bad things could have been avoided from the beginning if Amar had simply told his lovie love "Yo, we used to be married and madly in love. I'm the ruler of death basically, and you were my queen. But we had a fight and you left to be reincarnated as a human, so you lost your memories. I'm here to get you."

An entire book could have been avoided with COMMUNICATION.

The only redeeming factor was the sarcastic flesh-eating horse demon at the end.

I fucking hate books where they play the "let's all keep a shit ton of secrets and then be shocked bad things happen" game.

But the world itself was pretty. And the horse. Loved the horse.

Uprooted
Uprooted - Naomi Novik

I Liked: the world building, the magic and how it differed from person to person.

I Disliked: most of the characters. Dragon held himself above everyone on his holy crusade and was rude to all around him. Nieshka was dense and ran headlong into trouble without thought of consequences. Falcon was pretty much every stereotypical court wizard with his own hidden agenda to get ahead and usurp the one stronger than him. The king and prince were awful humans. I only liked the Crown Prince, what little we got of him before he bit the dust. I at least enjoyed Kasia and the little prince and princess there at the end.

And the end struggles were well done. But this book would have been better if they had left out 200 pages. It was dense and repetitive. Our young willow witch learning the same damn lessons over and over the hard way because she refuses to listen and Dragon not really teaching her anything so much and commanding knowledge into her thick head.

The Wood and all that revolved around it kept me going. I really liked the walkers. I would be the one keeping the giant stick bugs as pets.

Over all, mediocre but not terrible. I wanted to get this done so I could read Spinning Silver. Now I'm a little worried it will be more of the same dense prose.

Voltron v1
Voltron: Legendary Defender, Volume 1 - Digital Art Chefs,Mitch Iverson,Hedrick Smith

I just want to say the art in this is fantastic. And it's original stories so it's not just a rehash of the TV show. I love the "form Voltron" pages especially, and the humor never fails to make me smile.

Redwall Graphic Novel
Redwall: The Graphic Novel - Stuart Moore,Bret Blevins,Brian Jacques

I got this for $1 at the Metro Library Book Sale. I had no idea they ever made a graphic novel of Redwall, so I was excited. But given how thin the book was I had my worries. And it turned out to be what I feared. They condensed this far too much. Numerous characters were glossed over or left out. They didn't even mention otters, who are major creatures in Mossflower. Moles, especially Foremole, was only seen on one page. Some dialogue was hard to understand, and some panels were convoluted. This really needed to be at least 50 pages longer to fully flesh out any Redwall tale. We even cut the ending rather short so you didn't even have time to fully grieve for those lost in the final battle. Just a neat bow on things.
