The Beautifully Worthless
The Beautifully Worthless - Ali Liebegott

This was an audiobook I picked up on a whim not knowing what it was about.

As it turns out, The Beautifully Worthless is a work of poetic fiction that describes a road trip in letters to the protagonist's girlfriend.

Unsatisfied with her life the protagonist sets out with her dog to find a town in Idaho that she has read about. On the way she ponders about her life, her expectations, her interaction with others. It's a melancholy description of her experiences and her anxieties.

If I had known what the book was about, I probably would not have picked it up. However, I was pleasantly surprised by it. In parts it reminded me of Kerouac and Ginsberg - but not in a way that describes similarity between Liebegott's work and that of the two Beats. I've never been able to get into Ginsberg. He always seemed too pompous to me. And Kerouac seemed too self-indulgent. No, the link I struck between those two and Liebegott's book was one of difference: I wish Kerouac and Ginsberg had written with the same warmth and flair as Liebegott.

Anyway, I'm curious to read another of her books.

Life in the East is Worthless [Review]
With Only Five Plums: Life in the East Is Worthless (Book 3) - Terry Eisele,Jonathon Riddle

In some ways this final chapter in the story was the most depressing because in the previous ones Anna always had hope that if she survived long enough she would get to go home and see her family again one day. This is the part of the book where she realizes that things will never go back to the way they were. This volume had less narrative and the story of Lidice was not told from personal experience and it lacked something because it was a secondhand story even if it was told by someone personally changed by the things that occurred.

A New Name for Worthless: A Hero is Born
A New Name for Worthless: A Hero is Born - Rocky Shepheard,Tamira Thayne Worthless is a dog given as name truly not deserved. He is chained outside to only a small area in his owner yard and is not cared for properly. His two friends a fox and a otter decide to rescue him and find a new home. Then one day Worthless earns a new name and a new owner doing what all dogs hope to do which is make a human proud and have a new best friend.

I love the art and the story of this book my only wish is that there was more story. Some questions are left unanswered like what happened to the dog’s friends after he rescues his new owner? How did they become friends in the first place? Those are just some of the things that went through my head while reading that I hope one day will be answered.
