Recent Release Review! Their Bride (The Marriage Lottery # 2.5) Stasia Black & A.S. Green!
Their Bride - A.S. Green,Stasia Black

All Vanessa ever wanted was to be loved.
Okay, strike that—all she wanted was not to die at the hands of the homicidal maniac who was obsessed with hunting her down—AND to be loved.
Was that too much to ask?

Going to Jacob’s Well and becoming a Lottery Bride sounded like it would make all Vanessa’s dreams come true.

For the first time in her life, she’d have a family. For the first time in her life, she’d have not just one person to love her, but FIVE.

And she’d be safe from the notorious female slave trader, Lorenzo Bernal.

There’s just one teeny, tiny problem.

When the lottery husbands are announced, it turns out none of them intentionally entered. And they want out of the bargain.

*Events of this novel occur at the same time as events in Book 2 in the series but Their Bride is a full-length, standalone novel in the series.

“Their Bride” is full of emotions, passion and excitement that keeps readers glued to the pages.

These strong, appealing characters capture the hearts of readers as each has vulnerabilities and issues that hinder their relationship which provides lots of emotional turmoil during all the sizzling chemistry and heated passions of this captivating romance. Vanessa is a strong courageous woman with a challenging past that has kept her on the run but she remains strong and strives to make her own dreams come true which readers can certainly relate to and all the men easily ensure that readers want to help them overcome their problems and reach for happiness. Each of the men are different with unique issues so this adds variety and ensures that readers are never bored throughout this romance.

The fast paced and smooth flowing plot is not full of blazing hot passion and steamy sex scenes but it is also full of excitement, danger and a few surprising twists involving each of the characters which keep readers glued to the pages. This story references some of the events that take place in “Theirs to Protect” and continues a bit further in the future than where it ended, so while the story is standalone and can be read before the second book, for readers to get the most enjoyment out of the books, the series should be read in order due to the overall events that take place throughout the series.

I found that reading “Their Bride" actually made “Theirs to Protect” even better because this one made things more complete having read both books and I really can’t wait to find out what happens next in the series.

Stasia was born in Georgia, grew up in Texas, recently spent a freezing five-year stint in Minnesota, and now is happily planted in sunny California, which she will never, ever leave.

She loves writing, reading, listening to podcasts, and has recently taken up biking after a twenty-year sabbatical (and has the bumps and bruises to prove it). She lives with her own personal cheerleader, aka, her handsome husband, and their teenage son. Wow. Typing that makes her feel old. And writing about herself in the third person makes her feel a little like a nutjob, but ahem! Where were we?

Stasia’s drawn to romantic stories that don’t take the easy way out. She wants to see beneath people’s veneer and poke into their dark places, their twisted motives, and their deepest desires. Basically, she wants to create characters that make readers alternately laugh, cry ugly tears, want to toss their kindles across the room, and then declare they have a new FBB (forever book boyfriend).

I live in the cold, upper Midwest with my husband and three kids. I spend summers on Lake Superior, which is the muse for my contemporary romance, Summer Girl, and I’m a sucker for down-to-earth men who work with their hands (if they play guitar, that’s an added bonus). I love all things Irish—particularly music, dancing, and Jameson. When I’m not writing or reading romance, I’m traveling, camping, visiting book clubs, blogging for Writer Unboxed, and writing paranormal and contemporary young adult novels (under my real name).

Black and Green
Black and Green - C.L. Stone Black and Green - C.L. Stone

Black and Green starts off with a bang! Camp has just wrapped up when Sang is summoned home. Her father has returned, along with his 'other' family. This is very bad for Sang. Carol, the new stepmother wants to move. The boys jump into action to figure out how to get Sang out of this mess and back with them for good!

The 'boy' focus in this book is Sean Green. He realizes he needs to step up his game with Sang to show her that he cares and wants her with him (and all of them!). But, his mother chooses this time to come for a visit. Sean has a complicated relationship with his mother; he never feels that he or his achievements are enough for her. Trying to please her is exhausting, and now he is worried about Sang as well.

Sean has always been one of my favorite boys. He is brilliant and a doctor, but when it comes to relationships, he is fairly inexperienced. Seeing the vulnerable side of him in Black and Green was so endearing. And, seeing his relationship with his mother progress was very sweet. Most of the boys have rough family experiences, so seeing Sean have a moment with his mom, whom he often finds exasperating, was delightful.

The story revolves around how the team is going to get Sang out of her house. Carol is determined to pull her out of school and move the whole family to Savannah. During all this, Sang's fainting spells are increasing. She needs rest, less stress, and better nutrition. However, she can't get any of that until she is away from her horrible family. While it takes the team some time to figure out a plan, when Sean and Owen finally stop quibbling they come up with a brilliant plan! I never saw that coming.

I adore the series so much that I just can't wait for each new book. Her having 9 love interests is tricky though because sometimes it felt like some of the boys weren't even in the book. I look forward to them working through all this as a team!

  • POV: 1st/3rd
  • Tears: no
  • Trope: secret organization
  • Triggers: none
  • Series/Standalone: series
  • Cliffhanger: no; Sang is out of her house for now but the future is still kind of fluid
  • HEA: everyone is fairly settled; they are all aware of the plan and have given their tentative agreement

Trying to Live with the Dead by BL Brunnemer, Finding my Pack by Lane Whitt, Finding Honor by Ripley Proserpina, Paper Princess by Erin Watt...then you will probably like Black and Green!

Black Swan Green
Black Swan Green - David Mitchell Mitchell hits a home-run again: a clever and meaningful coming-of-age novel told through thirteen months in a thirteen year old boy's life. Each story starts and ends abruptly, leaving you yearning for more, but eventually ties together in a fitting, if bittersweet, finale. Whether or not you've experienced speech impediments, bullying, or family troubles, Jason Taylor's story is relatable to all who have been through the confusing tunnel of adolescence.

Christmas Miracles by Randi Alexander
Christmas Miracles - Randi Alexander,Lacey Black,Vicki Green,DB Jones,Brenda Kennedy,Kimberly Kennedy,Anna Kristell,Amanda Lanclos,Alissa Mullen,Anne Welch

I really enjoyed this set of 10 Christmas Miracles stories.I give the whole set a 4.5* rating. They each tugged at the heart and left me with a feel good feeling. While I have been struggling with some of my own problems, I really needed these type stories. Some dealt with some really serious issues but they all resolved with their own miracle. I've marked all of these authors so I can find more of their work.

Black Swan Green
Black Swan Green - David Mitchell

Unconvincing child narrators are one of my recurring sources of ire in literature. David Mitchell only seemed to be self-consciously channeling Holden Caulfield about half of the time. The other half of the time, his Jason was utterly heartbreaking and convincing. The "Hangman" chapter was one of the best I'd read in a long time and instantly had me excited about Mitchell again after the disappointing Number9Dream almost convinced me that Cloud Atlas was an anomaly. Verdict: I would highly recommend this book to people who like well-written stories about painful adolescence. Not so much to those who hate Catcher in the Rye and its like.
