May Flowers TBR
Sisters of Heart and Snow - Margaret Dilloway
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
The Sword of Summer - Rick Riordan,John Rocco

Okay, so I am completely dragging my feet these last 2 months, and I finally realized part of the reason why. I have been off my anxiety meds since the end of February because my new pharmacy doesn't do autorefills and they are inept morons. They couldn't "get in contact with my doctor" to get the authorization for my Lexapro. Usually I'm okay for a few weeks without it, but I will become progressively more distracted and find it hard to focus on thing I usually enjoy. After about the 5th time of these people saying they hadn't heard back from my doctor, I fired off an email to him and within SECONDS he had them on the phone with my refill instructions. Somehow, the man wasn't dead on the other end of the line. Weird, right? When they send faxes to his designated refill line they claim they get nothing but all I do is send an email and he resurrected from the grave. I'm finding a new pharmacy with this next refill. I used to use Target because they did the autorefill and would even call in when I ran out of refills so I didn't have to do anything but show up once a month. Then Tricare dropped them. Maybe I will go back to Walgreens? Target is CVS so I can't use them. Ugh. But I have my pills again to get my brain back in line.

It's terrible to be trapped inside your head. I had to install an app on my phone to remind me to put it down because I was so obsessive about checking posts and just wasting time. The app pops up with a notification that says "isn't there something else you can be doing?" Hahaha, uh, yeah, I think so. I've backed off social media, and I'm forcing myself to read.

I should be back to myself in a month, once the Lex gets back into my system and makes the spinning thoughts slow down. I told my husband "I literally cannot read. I pick up the book and I can't focus on the words." He went and picked up the pills for me. I have a good hubby. If any of you have this problem, you understand it is not joke. It's exhausting.

So I'm going to do my best to finish last month's books, then read all the comics I got from Free Comic Book Day. And maybe knock out some of my piles up Humble Bundle graphic novels.

Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes
Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes - Rick Riordan,John Rocco If you're interested in the story behind famous Greek heroes and you like Percy Jackson's type of narration, you will really like this story. If not, this book will probably be boring to you. I'm interested in the stories, and Percy's brand of humor is cute to me. I really enjoyed it.

Blizzard
Blizzard - John Rocco

By John Rocco

A few words from the author extracted from the book:

"On Monday, February 6, 1978, New England experienced one of the biggest snowstorms in its history, It snowed for two days, and by the time it stopped, parts of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut were buried under forty inches of snow.(...) The wind was blowing fifty miles an hour and created snowdrifts up to fifteen feet high. Where I grew up in Rhode Island, it took over a week for snowplows to get to our street. This book is based on my experience as a ten-year-old boy in that blizzard and how I got to the store, over a mile from my house, with tennis rackets tied to my feet."

The pictures pushed us into the story. The text made us feel into the book. We wanted to play in the snow. We smelled the hot chocolate. We felt desperate when the snowplows wouldn't show up. We cheered John in his journey, and booed when it was time to come back to school. Highly recommended!

Age range: 4 to 8 years old.

Blackout by John Rocco
Blackout - John Rocco

When I went to the library the other day, this is one picture book that stood out to me because of the beautiful art style. I loved how dark the illustrations looked compared to other picture books. Of course, I had no idea that the book was about a family living in the big city and them experiencing a summer blackout. I was just drawn in by the beautiful art.

Then I read the story and I am so glad I did. It brought back a lot of nostalgia for me. I, too, grew up in the city and remember some of those summer blackouts that never seem to last long enough for the family to continue playing a game of Uno. X3 I miss those days. Now I live in the South and I experience a blackout every weekend so blackouts have lost some of its majesty over the years. Still, this book helped remind me of all the fun I used to have during blackouts when I was a kid.

I highly recommend this book to all readers, especially if you have a fondness for cities and the night sky. The story is amazing when it comes to bringing the family together and enjoying the little things in life. Not to mention the artwork is outstanding! It's just a beautiful book all around.
