June 2019 Wrap up

Happy July

and to those who live in the USA "Happy 4th of July "

Image result for 4th of july gif

If you don't live in the USA or celebrate it, just have a super awesome day :)

June was a good month, I got a lot of reading done and yet not enough.... if that makes sense, lol. On a happy note I'm almost all done again with my review copies. I just been enjoying the warm morning that I can sit outside and read, it has become my favorite part of the day, even if it is just for 30 minutes or so before it gets too hot or I need to start adulting.

Here are some books that release in July(according to Goodreads) to look forward to

Fledgling by Molly Harper

  46160530. sy475

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

Wilder Girls

The King by Jennifer L. Armentrout

41142454. sy475

Dark Age by Pierce Brown

29226553. sy475

Currently reading:  I haven't listened to much audio lately so that is going slower than normally but Im still working on The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. I'm about way done with book 6, Blood Rites.

Blood Rites (The Dresden Files, #6)

For Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, there have been worse assignments than going undercover on the set of an adult film. Dodging flaming monkey poo, for instance. Or going toe-to-leaf with a walking plant monster. Still, there is something more troubling than usual about his newest case. The film's producer believes he's the target of a sinister entropy curse, but it's the women around him who are dying, in increasingly spectacular ways.

Harry is doubly frustrated because he got involved with this bizarre mystery only as a favor to Thomas, his flirtatious, self-absorbed vampire acquaintance of dubious integrity. Thomas has a personal stake in the case Harry can't quite figure out, until his investigation leads him straight to Thomas' oversexed vampire family. Harry is about to discover that Thomas' family tree has been hiding a shocking secret; a revelation that will change Harry's life forever.

Print copies, I'm currently reading Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I'm totally loving it, I will be sad when I'm done with it and not just because I will have to go back to review copies lol.

40291564

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

Next I think I will start, Dragonslayer by Duncan M. Hamilton, which I got from Tor Books. Thank you :)

40045978

In his magnificent, heroic, adventure fantasy, Dragonslayer, Duncan M. Hamilton debuts the first book in a fast-moving trilogy: a dangerous tale of lost magics, unlikely heroes, and reawakened dragons.

Once a member of the King's personal guard, Guillot dal Villevauvais spends most days drinking and mourning his wife and child. He’s astonished—and wary—when the Prince Bishop orders him to find and destroy a dragon. He and the Prince Bishop have never exactly been friends and Gill left the capital in disgrace five years ago. So why him? And, more importantly, how is there a dragon to fight when the beasts were hunted to extinction centuries ago by the ancient Chevaliers of the Silver Circle?

On the way to the capitol city, Gill rescues Solène, a young barmaid, who is about to be burned as a witch. He believes her innocent…but she soon proves that she has plenty of raw, untrained power, a problem in this land, where magic is forbidden. Yet the Prince Bishop believes magic will be the key to both destroying the dragon and replacingthe young, untried King he pretends to serve with a more pliable figurehead. Between Gill’s rusty swordsmanship and Solene’s unstable magic, what could go wrong?

Sometime in July there should be a new giveaway going live, so make sure to keep your eyes out for that.

Now to my June books, as always you will be able to find the buy links in the reviews that are linked down below ;)

Have a great month and HAPPY READING :)

Ask Me Anything by Molly E. Lee

“Edgy and smart with a sweet and sexy core.” —Rachel Harris, New York Times bestselling author of Eyes on Me

I should’ve kept my mouth shut.

But Wilmont Academy’s been living in the Dark Ages when it comes to sex ed, and someone had to take matters into her own hands. Well, I’m a kick-ass coder, so I created a totally anonymous, totally untraceable blog where teens can come to get real, honest, nothing-is-off-limits sex advice.

And holy hell, the site went viral—and we’re talking way beyond Wilmont—overnight. Who knew this town was so hard up?

Except now the school administration is trying to shut me down, and they’ve forced Dean—my coding crush, aka the hottest guy in school—to try to uncover who I am. If he discovers my secret, I’ll lose him forever. And thousands of teens who need real advice won’t have anyone to turn to.

Ask me anything…except how to make things right.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Sixteen-year-old Cinder is considered a technological mistake by most of society and a burden by her stepmother. Being cyborg does have its benefits, though: Cinder’s brain interference has given her an uncanny ability to fix things (robots, hovers, her own malfunctioning parts), making her the best mechanic in New Beijing. This reputation brings Prince Kai himself to her weekly market booth, needing her to repair a broken android before the annual ball. He jokingly calls it “a matter of national security,” but Cinder suspects it’s more serious than he’s letting on. Although eager to impress the prince, Cinder’s intentions are derailed when her younger stepsister, and only human friend, is infected with the fatal plague that’s been devastating Earth for a decade. Blaming Cinder for her daughter’s illness, Cinder’s stepmother volunteers her body for plague research, an “honor” that no one has survived. But it doesn’t take long for the scientists to discover something unusual about their new guinea pig. Something others would kill for.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he take physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. Kiss My Boots by Harper Sloan

In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?

Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.

The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….

Summary

A Note From the Publisher

THE LOVELY BONES meets BROADCHURCH in this stunning, wonderfully assured psychological thriller that revolves around a young girl's murder and one woman's obsession with uncovering the secrets in an idyllic English village.

I have a gardener's inherent belief in the natural order of things. Soft‑petalled flowers that go to seed. The resolute passage of the seasons. Swallows that fly thousands of miles to follow the eternal summer.

Children who don't die before their parents.

When Kate receives a phone call with news that Rosie Anderson is missing, she's stunned and disturbed. Rosie is eighteen, the same age as Kate's daughter, and a beautiful, quiet, and kind young woman. Though the locals are optimistic—girls like Rosie don't get into real trouble—Kate's sense of foreboding is confirmed when Rosie is found fatally beaten and stabbed.

Who would kill the perfect daughter, from the perfect family? Yet the more Kate entwines herself with the Andersons—graceful mother Jo, renowned journalist father Neal, watchful younger sister Delphine—the more she is convinced that not everything is as it seems. Anonymous notes arrive, urging Kate to unravel the tangled threads of Rosie's life and death, though she has no idea where they will lead.

Weaving flashbacks from Rosie's perspective into a tautly plotted narrative, The Bones of You is a gripping, haunting novel of sacrifices and lies, desperation and love.

Praise

"In British author Howells’s suspenseful and poignant debut. . .the increasingly tense storytelling and astute observations on mother-daughter relationships will keep readers turning the pages." - Publishers Weekly

"Has been compared to Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones, as they both feature young murdered females as narrators. Indeed, Rosie's voice offers a dynamic narrative. Her disembodied perspective, tempered with other points of view—chiefly Kate's—adds an unusual and haunting layer to the novel." - Library Journal

“An intriguing dark psychological thriller—truly brilliant!” --Lisa Jackson

Debut Author Debbie Howell is set to Become an International Sensation!

THE LOVELY BONES meets BROADCHURCH in this stunning, wonderfully assured psychological thriller that revolves around a young girl's murder and one woman's obsession with uncovering the secrets in an idyllic English village.

THE BONES OF YOU is told from two perspectives. We follow Kate as she comes to terms with Rosie’s murder, but we also see Rosie’s life as it flashes before her eyes when she is killed. The suspense is powerful as we watch Rosie grow up, and see the decisions she made which led her to that point. Through Rosie’s flashbacks we discover that everyone has secrets. But some of them are more deadly than others.

Praise For Debut Author Debbie Howells

“THE BONES OF YOU is one of those books that captivates you from the first page, holds tight and never lets go, a psychological thriller that teases and holds. I LOVED it!”  —Lisa Jackson, New York Times Bestselling author

My Review

A special thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

THE BONES OF YOU, dark psychological suspense thriller debut by Debbie Howells, a haunting novel of deceit and lies. A young girl’s murder and one woman’s obsession with uncovering dark secrets in this idyllic English village, drawing you into this intriguing world of mystery. A taunt chilling novel which will keep you page-turning into the wee hours of the morning.

“Stars are the souls of dead poets, but to become a star, you have to die.” Vincent van Gogh

“It’s true, what they say about when you die. In the final, terrible seconds of my life, eighteen years flash before my eyes. It’s when I understand the difference between life and death.”

Rosie has gone missing. . as the book opens. Rosie is looking at the movie of her life. THE BONES OF YOU, is an intense character driven novel---readers get an inside glimpse into all the people surrounding the life of Rosie Anderson, an eighteen-year-old teen who has been murdered. Their dark secrets, lies, fears, and deceit (and there are many) are slowly unraveled piece by piece.

Rosie “There are always two camps. Good and evil. Beautiful and ugly. Winners and losers. Andersons are never losers, just as they’re never anything less than perfect."

Gripping and tragic, flashing back and forth from Rosie, narrator, as she plays back the events of her life, to Kate, narrator, and sister, Delphine--readers slowly learn of all the suspects which touched Rosie’s short life.

Living on opposite sides of a small village with daughters at the same school, Jo and Kate belong to a group of mothers who meet now and then. Jo is married to Neal, a renowned journalist, who reports from the middle of war zones. They have a nice house and nice cars; however, Kate is drawn to Rosie. She is the same age as her daughter Grace. Rosie is also deeply drawn to Kate and her horses.

Rosie is a shy girl, quieter than Grace and share a love of horses with Kate. A feeling of foreboding hits Kate, a fear, a raw panic engulfs her and she is terrified, and she senses Rosie’s voice screaming her name. Rosie was murdered. Her body was discovered in the woods. Evidence of struggle, suffering several blows to her head, before being stabbed viciously a number of times. She was found in the same clearing where Kate fell off horse Zappa and she did not see her.

Everyone begins to speculate the reasons behind her murder. An unnamed boyfriend, the mother, perhaps the father with many faces, the charming one, or friends? A stranger? Are they all suspects? Behind the façade of constrained smiles and familiar exchanges there is a shift in the village. They could have a murderer in their midst.

A secret boyfriend, Alex, a younger sister, Delphine, Jo, the mother, Neal, the father, Emma or Grace, friends, Kate, perhaps? “Lies are like dough, or malignant tumors. They get bigger.“ Kate becomes almost obsessive about finding the murderer and the Anderson family. While she desires to comfort her friend, Jo, her husband, Angus is not thrilled with her involvement.

My favorite parts were those from Rosie; her words are haunting, yet magical, leading to the explosive finale; the story behind the story. The part of the story no one knows. Hate, lies, toxic behavior, and the truth.

Written in an almost lyrical prose, clever and scary, in the theme of Lovely Bones and Reconstructing Amelia, a haunting debut for lovers of psycho-thrillers and Gone Girl. British author Howells is an author to follow!
