Release Blitz for Ripple Effect: Episode 1 by Keri Lake

Title: Ripple Effect: Episode 1
Series: A Dark Hitman Erotic Romance Book 1
Author: Keri Lake
Genre: Erotic Suspense/Erotic Romance
Release Date: February 26, 2017

From the author of Ricochet and Backfire comes a dark erotic suspense serial ...

Episode One: Dylan will do anything to escape her current nightmare, even if it means falling into the tangled web of a ruthless killer.

Series Synopsis:

Ripley

They call me RIP.
I’m a killer. A murderer. A psychopath.
In the eyes of the righteous, I’m a monster, born of sin and depravity.
I want to protect her, but I’m not a good man.
I want to love her, but I no longer feel.
She gets under my skin, though, and has awakened something inside of me.
Something I’d kill for.
I’m not her savior—not even close. In fact, I’m worse than the hell she’s already suffered.
I’m her vengeance. Tit for tat, as they say.
And if she’s not careful, I’ll be her ruin.

Dylan

For months, I’ve watched him.
I’ve fantasized him as my savior, my lover. My ticket out of the hell I’ve lived in for the last six years.
I never dreamed he’d be my nightmare.
Had I known what he really is, I’d have never gotten in the car that night, but life is full of cause and effect.
And sometimes the choice on offer isn’t a choice at all.
It’s the result of something already in motion, and we’re merely left to survive the ripple effect.

*This is an erotic suspense/erotic romance not recommended for readers under the age of 18 due to graphic violence and sex

Ricochet
Ricochet - Julie Belfield,Keri Lake
This is a story of revenge and survival. It's told in first person, alternating between Nick and Aubree. Flashbacks are also prominent. Basically Detroit is a cesspool ran by an alliance of the worst of the worst in criminals and city officials. Human trafficking, rape and murder happen as freely as crossing the street. The storyline gets quite brutal at times.

Michael Culling is the head of this evil undertaking. What he took from Nick is just unimaginable. It can never make up for what he's been through, but Nick is on a mission to take Culling and his crew down as painfully as possible. Part of his plan includes Culling's wife Aubree. What Nick comes to know is that he and Aubree have more in common than anyone realized.

I recommend this book for someone who likes the whole Dark Knight idea with added very mature content. Nick is reminiscent of the DC character, but he also comes with plenty of extra twists.

Ricochet - Julie Belfield,Keri Lake

This book had SO much potential but, sorely it fell flat. With all the hype & all the amazing reviews about this book I had high expectations. Sadly it didn't deliver & I was highly disappointed. I was bored & figured out all the major plot points & 'twists' by the time I was halfway through. I was expecting something very dark & violent but, it was neither. I wasn't a fan of the 3 pov's & in my opinion it crowded the book. It would've been better off being told in the anti-hero's pov. This is a book where I judged it by its extremely hot cover. I won't make that mistake again. The sex was boring. It came across as filler & kinda haphazardly thrown in there for the sake of having sex in the book. I ended up skimming the last 50% of the book just so it would end.

Reading progress update: I've read 60%.
Ricochet - Julie Belfield,Keri Lake

This book is SO boring that I'm thinking about not finishing it. I'm so disappointed. Especially where there was SO much hype over this book. I will admit though, the hot cover is what drew me in. I didn't even read the summary & I should have.

Ricochet by Keri Lake
Ricochet - Keri Lake

"Monsters did exist. They didn't hide under the bed, though. They stormed through the fucking door and stole away everything we loved."

Three years ago,Nick lost everything. His wife, his beautiful son.  All brushed away under the orders of Michael Culling,a ruthless Mayor that controls Detroit.

But Nick didn’t lose his life, and now he’s out for revenge. An eye for an eye.

To kill a monster,he had to become one.

Have you ever felt emotionally drained by a novel? Ricochet was fucked up in every way and some more. The story is gritty, the violence is graphic. And yet I couldn’t take my eyes off it for a second.

Seeing Nick’s journey toward rage and madness was incredible. The writing was pretty good and in first person, making me feel like I was Nick. I felt the hatred, the anger, the pain, the suffering, the torture and the love. And damned if I didn’t love every second of it.

Michael Culling was a despicable villain. He tainted everything he touched, including our female main character, Aubree.

Aubree herself was a complex woman, bended but not broken, caged but not destroyed.

The plot itself was exciting enough to keep me up until 5 am until I finally finished it. It’s rare for a story to touch me so deeply. Nick’s story broke my heart. Seriously, give the man a break. The fast-paced, action-packed lines had my heart racing and my stomach in knots. You know the feeling where you’re on the verge of tears but not crying just yet and your throat feels like it’s burning from holding back? That happened to me while I was reading a couple of scenes where Nick was tortured and haunted by his past (dead wife & son). I can’t remember the last time I had such a strong reaction to a book before.

The ending wasn’t exactly original but it was so unexpected and well done I didn’t even care. It fit the story perfectly. Another amazing twist in this web of amazing stuff.

The half star I took off was for the sex scenes. They were a bit too long for my taste. Important stuff was happening through the book and I just couldn’t care for the sex. This may be a first but I thought the sex was standing in my way. I want to see death and blood, goddammit!

Sentence: Sometimes you need a cute, fluffly book that you can cuddle to while reading. This is not that book. If you need a gritty, dark romance,go for it!
