Review: Cain (Out of the Cage Novel, #1) by Lane Hart
Cain (An Out of the Cage Novel) (Volume 1) - Lane Hart

Lane Hart does it again! It was a gripping story full of angst, drama, nail-biting moments, sweet yet passionate scenes, sexy and funny men. In short, all I could ever ask for in a story like this.

I loved the friendship and banter among the three main males. Cain, Knox, and Ivan grew up together in a sort of “foster home” for homeless kids. The downside? They have to surrender their lives to a mafia mob leader as soon as they come of age. Their relationship was easygoing and relatable; each of them was true to their character from start to finish and as the reader I could understand their dilemmas and way of thinking. Gabby, the only woman of the group, may have sounded too innocent at times but that was completely understandable; she didn’t really have much life experience as she joined the men at a very young age. The fact that they all had each other’s back without even saying it out loud gave the story that feeling of tenderness and warmth.

My only cavil (blame it on my pickiness and personal preferences) is that it was kind of hard to get past the idea that the two main characters were of a certain age and there was no fumbling, no silly experiencing, no funny or imperfect loving scenes. However, their romance was both raw and honest and if I'm being honest with myself (and when I was able to overlook what I mentioned earlier) then it all made for a phenomenal read.

Dark, gritty, and emotional
Cain (An Out of the Cage Novel) (Volume 1) - Lane Hart

Cain is everything that I've come to expect from this author. This emotional, beautifully written tale grabbed hold and didn't let go. It's so much more than just an MMA romance. It's a coming of age story of kids stuck between a rock and a hard place, doing what they must just to survive another day. Gabby's innocence and Cain's determination to protect that innocence from betrayals that she doesn't even know about is like a light shining in the dark. Cain and Gabby have such good chemistry and they are so good together, but this story is about so much more than just this couple. Together with Ivan and Knox, this is a family born not of blood, but of shared hardship and struggles.

Lane Hart didn't just tell me a story, she pulled me in to the lives of these characters. My heart broke right along with them as they clawed and struggled for their happily ever after. The only downfall for me was that I wanted more. Don't get me wrong, the book ended perfectly, but I was so caught up that I wasn't ready to let go. So, this reader will be not so patiently waiting for Ivan's story.

Arc review: Indiscretion: A Standalone Forbidden Romance by Lane Hart
Indiscretion: A Standalone Forbidden Romance - Lane Hart

Not what I was expecting!

Although I’ve heard great things of this author this is actually my first book by her. I’m not much of a contemporary romance reader unless it’s packed with action and suspense but there was something about the blurb that caught my attention and I just couldn’t pass the chance to read this book.

So, for starters, Clark Kent as my physical therapist? Sign me up!

The story begins with what Sam thinks is a little white lie to her PT, Dr. Grant Matthews, never imagining it could potentially ruin the man’s future. What starts as silly flirtation and later sizzling make-out sessions turns into something deeper and more meaningful before either one of them realizes it.

I’ll be honest and say that I’m not too fond of stories told in the present tense or in the first person POV but that didn’t even bother me here because it was just that well-told. All characters’ personality jumped out of the pages and that’s something I can always appreciate. Sam was innocent without sounding dim-witted; I think she was just a woman acting her age. Grant on the other hand kind of grew on me because when the story started I sort of hated the man, like big time, sexy glasses and all.

The story had plenty of twists and turns that I did not expect, some that I could see coming but were still interesting, plenty of laugh out and tear-jerking moments, and some that had me cheering for love and justice to triumph over everything. I’m not so sure about the ending because I thought it was tied up way too nicely however overall it was a great story and I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

** I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***

Absolutely LOVED It!!
Senn (A Cocky Cage Fighter Novel Book 5) - Lane Hart

One night of temptation that he knew he should resist and his life gets turned upside down...

Let me start by saying that while reading this story, I had to ultimately keep the faith in the author’s story-telling as there were a number of things I don’t like in a story that were pertinent in this story. But if it had been a flowery, love at first sight-type story, then it wouldn’t have been an excellent story that I couldn’t put down. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down, reading it in a very short time. I was equally cursing and praising the author for everything that made this story. I also loved seeing Mason again!! I liked Abby’s character but I really loved Seen. My heart went out to both of of them, but especially Senn for all the growth and pain he went through. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it.

Quick, Hot Read
Tainted Love (A Lovestruck Novella Book 1) - Lane Hart

What if you were told love potions were real? Would you drink it? Josie doesn’t believe in them but when her friend’s taunting leads her to drink it, she has to wonder if it might have worked…

This was a cute and quick read. I really liked Josie’s and Lawson’s characters. The only problem I had was Josie’s continual mistrust of Lawson. I understand having trust issues, but with a relationship moving quickly after the first incident, you would’ve thought she’d give him the benefit of the doubt the second time. I recommend this story.
