I was gifted the AUDIO file of this book. This is book 2 in the Deviant Hearts series, but it can totally be read/listened to as s stand alone book. Dashel and Billy from book one do pop up, but they are not central to the plot. I do, however, suggest you DO read/listen to Captive Hearts, cos you know, I said so! Lee is out of the police force, after one particular undercover operation tips him over the edge and is currently building his security business. Finding the cafe to wait out the storm brings Dominic into his life, and things are not ever going to be the same again. Dominic is head of a campaign to save a rundown pub from development, and its floundering. A saviour comes to help, but is he all he seems? So! Again, I need to say, usually I try to keep two seperate parts to my audio reviews, one for the book and one for the narration. Increasingly, especially with first person books, I can't do that. So not gonna really try to! Lee is part of the plot of Deviant Hearts, and I knew when I was listening to that book, I needed to hear his story. So glad I got the chance! There is immediate attraction between lee and Dominic, that much is obvious, but what I particularly liked about this one is that much of the "action" is off page! Go figure, me, who likes her books down and dirty, and this one . . .isn't so much! Oh don't get me wrong, it's hot and it's sexy, it's all just that little bit out of reach and I really did love that. There was MUCH going on, aside from the romance between Lee and Dominic. MUCH. There is the campaign to save Charlie's. There is Dominic's ex, who he has to work with, still trying to get back with Dom. Lee's ex, causing him problems too. There is the new guy taking up the baton for Charlie's too. Dom's dad is trying to make amends with him for what he did all those years ago, and Lee's business is taking up a lot of his time. All of these items come together in a spectactular fashion! Dan Calley again narrates. The man is growing on me, big time! He gets over all of Lee's need to be ENOUGH for Dominic, to be the best he can, regardless of what his ex said. Calley gets over every single alarm bell that Lee has about *everything*! But I loved that Lee is listening to his instincts, and Calley gets that feeling across beautifully. Calley gets over every single thing Dom thinks of his father, of his brother, and how much he loves his little sister. What Dom feels about Tiger, the ex. What Dom feels when all becomes shockingly clear and how much that hurts him. And Calley gets over every single thing Dom feels when things come to a head. You can READ the words, and you get a picture, you know, but LISTENING to them? Paints a totally different picture to the one you read. It's why I really enjoy listening to a book AFTER I've read them. There is a third book, but I'm not entirely sure where the characters in that book fit in with Billy and Dashel, or with Lee and Dominic, but I look forward to listening to that, when it comes out in audio. I don't like to flip between listening and reading in the same series, it sor of spoils it for me a bit. 5 stars for the book 5 stars for the narration 5 stars overall. **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

Verified purchase July 2018 Usually I don't go for college aged characters, but Matt and Trevor both have old heads on their young shoulders, for very different reasons. Yes Matt comes from money, but there are strings attached. Yes Trevor has suffered after being rejected by his family, but he is pulling himself upwards now. I loved how things develop between these two! Not just how they initally get together, but how things move along between them, physically as well as emotionally. This is the first of Blair's work I've listened to, indeed, read so I would like to read or listen to more now! Greg Boudreaux narrates and the man is a MASTER at his craft! His voices for everyone are easily indentifiable when listening to multi person conversations. The reading voice Boudreaux uses is deep and even and there were no dips or bits I missed when Matt or Trevor got emotional or were thinking (a common theme, trust me!) 4 stars for the book 5 for the narration (cos, you know, Greg!) **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

Luca survived his poisoning only because a child distracted his tormentors. When Kit turns up at the choosing ceremony as a slave, Luca sees red and kills the current Alpha who was pretending to be The Alpha King. The Alpha King is a tite long since abused, but can only be held by an Alpha who has a Pure Omega as a mate. That his mate is a human MALE makes no odds to Luca, but he needs to look after the pack, ALL the packs, and having Kit as his mate will be one more difficulty he needs to overcome. I LOVED this! Luca knows he will be Alpha of a pack one day, he just has to bide his time. He never expected that Alpha title to come with a King on the end. Kit called him that, all those years ago, but he never thought anything by it. Now that Kit is in his arms, and Luca has inherited the title properly, he also comes into his powers. He didn't know about those. Kit's presence in his life, in his bed has opened a whole can of worms but Luca knows he can shut it. Kit is an unlicensed human, used to life treating him in the worst way. He knew, he always KNEW that Luca was his mate, that Luca would be the salvation for all humans and the way they were treated, he just didn't expect to actually FEEL for Luca, to fall in love with him. Both Luca and Kit have a says, in the third person. I wasn't sure Kit would for a time, since it is a way into the book before he gets his voice, so I was mighty pleased about that. It's deeply emotional in places, when Kit tells of his childhood (such as it was) and Luca talks about the future. It's violent in others when Kit is kidnapped and Luca does what he has to do to save Kit, and the consequences of that action. It is a wonderfully told story! This world is (currently) a bad place for humans, since the wolves overthrew the humans and enslaved them centuries ago. Once, the humans were the dominant species and much of their history is now lost to the winds of time, but Luca has a very industrious friend who digs up all kinds of long lost information, for both the humans AND for Luca and about the title of Alpha King and the Pure Omega who mates him. Things that are all kinds of spoilers and I'm not saying. But I also have a feeling that much more will be discovered in time that will turn a lot of things on their heads. There are a couple of characters who I would like to have either heard from here, or would like if they could have their own stories, but I'm not sure that would work, in the grand scheme of things. Sam and Asher especially, but another couple too. Joel Leslie narrates. I love Mr Leslie's work, I really do. I could listen to the man read the phone book! I cannot fault the narration! Everyone's voice fits their descriptions, each voice is clear and easily definable when in multi person conversations. Leslie's reading voice is deep and even, and I had no problem with keeping up when Leslie gets over the emotions these guys were feeling. Sometimes, I lose that, when a narrator dips their voice when the characters are emotional, but not so Leslie! I have books 2 and 3 to listen to, just as soon as I find some time.
