Later in the year 1999 Kabini was declared as Tiger Reserve.
Attracting wildlife photographers and enthusiasts from far and wide, Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries of South India. Great cormorants nest on the dry stumps of trees. During guided nature walks you can come across some of the more inland species like the Malabar Lark, Malabar trogon, Indian Pitta and the glorious Malabar pied hornbill.

Early morning Jeep safaris are the best time to witness most of the animals of the reserve, who step out for water and food before the temperatures rise. Evening safaris are considered a good time to spot leopards that rule this corner of the Forest. Summertime is an ideal season for observing wild elephants as the large groups of pachyderms gather around the shrinking water bodies. Summer safaris skirt the dry river beds during this time of the year.

The boat rides on the calm waters of the lake provide a different and unique perspective of the forest. Visitors can marvel at the different species that nest around the waterways. Freshwater crocodiles can be seen sliding in and out of the water on the banks, basking in the sun. The motorboat rides are conducted twice a day. Hugo: Best Graphic Story
Abbott - Saladin Ahmed,Sami Kivela,Jason Wordie
Black Panther: Long Live the King - Nnedi Okorafor
Monstress, No. 3 - Sana Takeda,Marjorie M. Liu
Paper Girls Volume 4 - Brian K Vaughan
Saga Volume 9 - Fiona Staples,Brian K. Vaughan

So I started reading them yesterday and I'm mostly done.  On a sunbeam is a web comic (I can't link from work) and I'm making my way through it, I've read the first few episodes and find it interesting.

Again it was hard to choose within an interesting bunch, my favourite was Abbott, ranking the rest was hard.

Eventually I just decided an order but it was work.

Abbott features a female investigative journalist who can see more than she wants to at scenes and a series of grotesque murders.  Stands alone and leaves room for sequels.

Black Panther: Long Live the King - Black Panther at home in Wakanda fighting a creature that is destabilising the country.

Monstress: Volume 3: Haven - this is so pretty, the artwork is very special and the story winds around and keeps me reading.  You need to have read the previous two books before this.

On a Sunbeam is a story of some people travelling around in a spaceship exploring buildings along with some exploration of the past of some of the characters.   Unusual and interesting.

Paper Girls - Volume 4 - this one really needed that I read the rest before embarking on it, lost doesn't quite describe it enough.

Saga - Volume 9 - I've read the previous stories, the artwork is lush and the story interesting, now I want to know what's going to happen next.

Really not into this
Rise of the Black Panther (2018) #1 (of 6) - Ta-Nehisi Coates,Evan Narcisse,Paul Renaud,Brian Stelfreeze

I picked this up for free, and tried it. I'd heard that the glut of Black Panther series - based on the popularity of Coates' series - watered down the Black Panther name, made it harder to keep up with the series, and just burnt people out.   In addition, I'd add that they were stretching the stories, and they ended up just not being all that compelling.

I did not feel this at all.   All the complexity of the original series seems to have been ditched, and I will not be continuing this series.

Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet, Book One
Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet Book 1 - Ta-Nehisi Coates,Brian Stelfreeze

I read this for one of my summer classes. We had to read and annotate 10 comics/graphic novels. Here's the annotation I wrote for that class:

Queen Shuri has vanished, and T’Challa returns home to a people on the edge of revolt and the threat of war from the neighboring country Niganda.

Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet is not the easiest entry point to T’Challa’s story. Knowledge from the film assuaged some confusion, but there were still moments where I felt I was missing out because of my lack of knowledge. Since this is the first book in an ongoing series, there's a lot of set up but very little resolution.

The most striking aspect of the book is that, with the exception of one character, every single character in the book is Black. And the best aspect of the book is those characters. Black Panther is populated with complex characters, including several strong, active, remarkable women. In the book, there are clear protagonists and antagonists but there is a much less clear divide between the “good guys” and “bad guys.” T’Challa is the hero of the story, a story which opens with him assailing his own people. Aneka is removed from the Dora Milaje and punished for breaking a law even though her actions were morally right. These moral ambiguities create tension that drive the story forward.

Black Panther is not a book to pick up and read on a whim. It demands readers’ attention and concentration, and rewards it well. When I finished I wished I had Book Two in hand because I need to know what will happen next.
