October is National Book Month!
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - Agatha Christie
Secret Obsession - Kimberla Lawson Roby
Don't Let Go - Harlan Coben
Salvage the Bones - Jesmyn Ward
The Widow - Fiona Barton

First of all, October is one of my favorite months or perhaps my only favorite month! I absolutely love everything about Fall and October...Halloween, autumn smells, the cooler weather, the shorter days, everything!!! So when I found out that October is also National Book Month, you can pretty much guess that I almost lost it!! I mean how  much more amazing can this month get?!!!

To observe this wonderful holiday, I am going to create my first TBR post. My October reads are set to include the following (hopefully, I can indulge in them all!!!):

Salvage the Bones - Jesmyn Ward

This is a read for my book club. A novel centered around a poor family and their issues as Hurricane Katrina makes landfall.

Don't Let Go - Harlan Coben

Nap Dumas is a police detective who is a little obsessed with digging for answers to his brothers mysterious death and his high school girlfriend's disappearance.  However, somebody doesn't want him to.

The Widow - Fiona Barton

I'm listening to this one.

Jean is a master pretender. Once pretending to be the perfect wife and now that her husband has died, people are searching for the truth. Or what Jean makes them believe is the truth...

Secret Obsession - Kimberla Lawson Roby

Paige is up to some dangerous scheming as a result of a jealous feud...scheming against her own sister. Sounds like some drama!

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - Agatha Christie

I told myself that I would like to try and read at least on Agatha Christie a month.

So those are my tentative reads for now. I may get to them all and I may not. I feel like I should add a horror story in honor of Halloween...

What is on your October to read list?

I'm Back!!

So after booklikes kept having issues, I lost my drive for blogging. I didn't stop reading but I kind of slipped on my reviews but now I'm back. My plan is to eventually shift to my own domain but until then here is where you can find me. Also add me on Goodreads: J. Bentley or follow me on instagram @1_4the_books. I'll eventually make my way to twitter.

Now on to the good stuff.  This weekend I had the privilege and honor to attend a book talk and book signing. A few weeks ago I told myself that I wanted to attend a book signing.  Well I  didn't even go looking for this one, it just fell in my lap. Let me preface by saying this was my absolute first and it was lovely. And it helped that it happened to be one of my favorite authors. Somebody give me a drum roll, please....Harlan Coben. Mastermind of suspense, thrillers, and mysteries. If you have not checked him out, I highly suggest you do so. He is the author of over 30 books and the mastermind behind two Netflix shows including The Five. Check out my cool pictures and yes I was totally fangirling it.

great story and characters
The Sheikh's Unruly Lover (Almasi Sheikhs Book 2) - Leslie North

Marian was Mr. Thomas’s Executive Assistant. Mr. Thomas had been more of a mess since the merger with Almasi Holdings in Parsabad and his daughter’s marriage to a sheikh and the son of the CEO. Annabelle is Mr. Thomas’s only daughter and Marians best friend although they were more like sisters. Mr. thomas had a proposition for Marian, Marian didn’t like anything that might change her job as she was perfectly comfortable with it. Then Mr. Thomas said Almasi Holdings and Mr Thomas needed her in Parsabad. That their Chief Technology  Officer needs an assistant in his upcoming trip. Nobody else could do it but her. Then Mr. Thomas said Marian would be able to see Annabelle also. Marian said change made her nervous. But Marian did agree to go. Mr. Thomas needed Marian to help Kelly finalize a deal with an technology company- Parsabad National Oil. Marian detested Kelley within the first three minutes of their trip. Not only did he look down his nose at her, he only listened to her when she called him “Sir” or spoke with urgency. Otherwise he barely acknowledge Marain. Marian met Omar who was to be their technology deal facilitator and unofficial tour guide per Omar. Kelly was being every bit as brisk and rude as Mr. Thomas felt he would be. Omar had been in an arranged marriage but he and his wife found love as it wasn’t  very long after the wedding Anahita got cancer and shortly after that she died it had been two years since. . Omar kept comparing Marian to Anahita- in a good way. At the meeting the next day Kelly made a crase statement and called it a joke but the Parmesan men refused to go any further until they received an apology.  Marian said she would apologize and carry on with the talks and she could do a better job then Kelley. Then Mr. Thomas fired Kelley. When Marian came downstairs to go to dinner Omar was there and they went together. Something felt natural to Marian about Omar like they were reconstructing a long lost friendship. Omar was attracted to Marian but he felt like he was being untrue to his dead wife and felt guilty. They next day Omar and Marian went out for drinks after work and ended up in Marian’s room and had some explosive sex. The following day they went up in a hot air balloon with Omar piloting it. The next day they went sightseeing but that night Omar went home and left Marian alone. To Marian it felt like she was in a months long relationship, breakup and it hadn’t even been  a week. But it did feel like a breakup to Marian.

Excellent short story.  The romance was a bit rushed but a lot was put in this short story. I really enjoyed this and loved the plot. I loved Annabelle's and Marian’s relationship. I loved how Omar wasn’t old fashioned and welcomed Marian’s help. I loved the ending and how Omar was so determined to make things right. I loved Omar and Marian together. A great romance. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.

The Sheikh's Unruly Lover (Amalsi Sheikhs) by Leslie North
The Sheikh's Unruly Lover (Almasi Sheikhs Book 2) - Leslie North

What a beautiful surprise.  I went into The Sheikh's Unruly Lover with one mindset and left it seduced by love.  Marian is a tad bolder than previous heroines in a Leslie North novel. Which makes her more intriguing.  Despite her outer boldness, she has internalized insecurities that haunt her daily life.  Omar is less alpha more mysterious.  He hides his heart, but cannot fight temptation.  When it comes to romance, Ms. North burns her way into the heart with a sweet with heat treat.

Too Many Inconsistancies
Persephone’s Beastly Lover: Book Three in the Werewolves of Rebellion Series - Ana Lee Kennedy

Persephone recently started working for a paranormal agency. Their next case takes them to a possessed house in Ohio, where she meets the owner, Jack.

The premise of this story sounded really good, so I was looking forward to reading it. It started out decent, then the inconsistencies began. A character would state one thing in one section and then in the next chapter it would be totally changed around. When the author references the closest city to where the story takes place, it’s evident they don’t actually know the layout of Ohio (considering I live in Ohio this was particularly irritating). The final straw for me was having the biker wear cowboy boots instead of what bikers are known to wear (I would assume this is because the story is in Ohio).

**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
