The Dark Victorian: Bones by Elizabeth Watasin
The Dark Victorian: Bones - Elizabeth Watasin

The adventures of His Highness' supernatural agents Art, an artificial ghost only a few days old, and her partner Jim, an animated skull, continue. And I couldn't be more pleased. This time, while Art is still recuperating from the re-animationist case, she and Jim must deal with a bone stealer who uses his rather unique gift to remove and insert bones into another and adhere skin, muscle, tissue, and nerves without permanent damage - except to the one who unwillingly donates his or her bones.

I was delighted by the first book in this series. (Read my review of Risen here.) So, I was expecting to enjoy Bones as well. What I was not expecting was to absolutely fall in love with it! From the artwork to character development to the beautiful Victorian London scenes, it was impossible not to love this novel.

I know Elizabeth Watasin did a great deal of research for this novel, but I have a feeling that she actually lives and breathes this era, that she sees airships when she looks up and carts and hansom cabs on cobblestone roads when she looks around.

Dark Victorian: BONES, Price Drop!
The Dark Victorian: Bones - Elizabeth Watasin

Just finished with Comikaze Expo 2013, now to catch up on a myriad of things, like---

Dropping the price on one of my e-books! My Gothic steampunk mystery avec a very cool gaslamp superheroine, The Dark Victorian: Bones, is now only a dollar more than Sundark: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B58ZGFK

Though 2nd in the series, it's written to be self-contained and is (yes), hefty, as is often commented to me at events! ;) That's because more characters, more sub-plots, a more dense immersion into this alternate world of a supernatural, mechanical 1880's London.

"I am made of this."

In a mechanical and eldritch Victorian London, a black arts surgeon is ripping out the bones and organs of the healthy poor to transplant into the afflicted bodies of the wealthy. Anti-vivisectionists battle with medical doctors, medical doctors condemn supernatural practitioners, and amidst it all the Bone Stealer hunts for his most elusive prize yet: the skeleton of a woman over six feet tall. Secret Commission agents Art, the artificial ghost, and Jim Dastard, the animated skull, rush to stop him before another woman dies. And Art, only six days living after being resurrected to serve the Secret Commission, might be that woman.

Experience female detective mysteries with a Victorian superheroine:
A gaslamp fantasy in a steampunk, paranormal London, follow the dangerous adventures of an uncanny female sleuth and her senior skull partner set in the same alternate world as Elizabeth Watasin's Victorian Gothic series, The Elle Black Penny Dreads.

Enjoy! :)

The Dark Victorian: Risen, in libraries!
RISEN (Dark Victorian, Vol. 1) - Elizabeth Watasin
The Dark Victorian: Bones - Elizabeth Watasin
Sundark: An Elle Black Penny Dread - Elizabeth Watasin,JoSelle Vanderhooft

Dark Victorian: RISEN has been picked up by 2 libraries! Hooray!
This was done at Smashwords, where I have all the Dark Victorians and the latest Elle Black, SUNDARK, listed for FREE to libraries. So if you're a librarian and handle acquisitions, I hope you'll add my fun titles to your e-book lending systems!

I have no idea how that works, but per Smashwords:
"How Smashwords distributes to libraries:
There are two primary library distribution options.
Library Aggregators:  The first is Smashwords distribution to major library aggregators, such as our distribution agreement with Baker & Taylor's Axis360 platform, and our relationship with 3M's Cloud Library (now in the integration phase).  We're in negotiations with other library aggregators to be announced later this year.  The library pricing shown below will be transmitted to the library aggregators, who will sell your books at the price listed below. [NOTE: As I've mentioned, my titles are FREE to libraries].

Library Direct:  This second option, which is new, will allow libraries to place large "opening collection" orders, direct through Smashwords.  In situations such as this, a library or library consortium would order, for example, the top 10,000 best-selling ebooks at Smashwords.  These library systems will host their own files, and will apply industry-standard DRM to the books to manage checkouts.  The DRM system (usually Adobe Content Server) causes the book to expire after the checkout period, so the next patron can check it out.  For each book they purchase, they can only check out one copy at a time.  Once a Library Direct customer purchases their books, they own them, and can check them out for perpetuity, one patron at a time, one checkout at a time.  If your book is priced at FREE, the library is authorized to distribute unlimited copies their patrons."
