Saga Volume 1
Saga, Volume 1 - Brian K. Vaughan,Fiona Staples

It took me three days to read this volume. Not because it was boring or because I didn't have time to read it. It took me three days to read it because I wanted it to last. I didn't want it to be a fast read. I wanted to savour it, make it last, enjoy every page, the art the story. EVERYTHING! It got humor, love, action and some really good art.

I loved this graphic novel. I mean this is the first I have bought in a long time. And, I bought it because of all I ever saw was people praising it. Any you know what? They are all right it is that good! There are many reviews out there that are very good, describing the story with images everything. But I just want to say that I enjoyed reading it very much and it is now looking very good in a prominent place on my bookshelf.

I ordered volume 2 today, after I finished volume 1. Should probably have ordered them all when I think about it.

Vampire Seeker Blog Tour + Giveaway
Vampire Seeker - Tim O'Rourke

The first in the self-published paranormal series that is already an online sensation!

Samantha "Sammy" Carter thinks that the recent murders of four women in Whitechapel is committed by a vampire. The gruesome murders are identical to the murders of Jack the Ripper a hundred years ago. Is there a copycat or is Jack the Ripper back?

Sammy is desperate to prove that the killer is a vampire and one night she follows the killer on the night tube train. But she blacks out after an encounter with the killer and wakes up in the wild west. How and why did she end up there and will she ever get back home?

Vampires, Jack the Ripper and time-traveling. What an amazing combination. This book was really entertaining to read and I enjoyed Sammy's experience in the wild west. Not only is she far from home she is also a bit lost in time and now she has to get used to not only that vampires is really real, but that for reasons she can't understand she was send back in time.

When Sammy wakes up in the wild west she is a bit groggy and also in danger, but lucky for her, the Preacher show up in the right time to help her out. The Preacher isn't alone. He is traveling with Louise, Harry and Zoe and they are not an ordinary group of people; they are vampire hunters. She also feels that there is something mysterious about them, beside the fact that they are vampire hunters.

This book was entertaining to read and even though I'm a bit sick and tired of the whole vampire genre really liked Tim O'Rourke's wild west theme with time travel. Also, having added Jack the Ripper to the mix was very interesting, The ending wasn't that surprising, but I enjoyed reading the book and I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Hinges: Book 1 Clockwork City
Hinges Book One: Clockwork City - Meredith Mcclaren

A graphic novel about a doll named Orio and her familiar Bauble. Usually it's the doll that picks it's familiar, but this time it's the familiar that picks the doll...

What an odd graphic novel, I really wanted to like it and I was in the beginning intrigued about the story then just the story became a bit confusing. Orio is suppose to find herself an occupation, but Bauble ruins it for her all the time and then something else shows up in the Clockword city.

I actually found the ending a bit confusing so I reread it on the computer after reading the graphic novel on the iPad and the story did make much more sense on the computer. But I still feel that this story is really odd.

But the art was really good and I would like to read more about Orio and Bauble.

3 stars

Archangel's Legion - Nalini Singh

I took some time to let this book marinate in the brain... I have to say that it is a GOOD book, but it wasn't GREAT for me.

First, I'm not a prude, but the sex scenes?  I bit too much for me.  I get it, he's hot and she's hot and they're hot together.  It just felt like overkill.

The Legion appearing in the last 20pgs of the book?  Really?!  Sigh.

This is what I think, for what it's worth... kill some of the sex scenes, consolidate the Vampire virus plot (that ended in a fizzle real quick), introduce the Legion earlier, the battle between the archangel's take precedence and we get the story sped up much quicker.  This thing seems to be dragging unnecessarily.

That scene where Caliane politely told Lijuan to kiss her ass and kick rocks?!  That was freaking beautiful.  LOVED it!  I wish I was there, the tension just flowed out of the page and you just could taste the enmity.

Elena complaining about having mother-in-law issues?  Hysterical.  Loved that.  And her learning more about Jeffrey?  Heartbreaking.  There is so much there.

Ms. Singh does female characters very well.  Tasha is looking for a beat-down, but she was pretty awesome.  Isabel, Eve and Amy?  Great!  Can't wait to get more of them.

She also does male characters SEXY!  Naasir, Aodhan, Ilium... can't wait for their stories.  VIVEK?!!!  Damn, but that's looking promising.

Like I said, it's a good book, and had some awesome scenes, but overall I just felt like it could have been a bit more definitive.

Brothers of the Wild North Sea - Harper Fox

This was a beautifully written book.  BotWNS was so engaging and had such richness.  The characters were well written and memorable.  I loved Cai and Fen... Danan was my favorite.

Lots of mysticism, but I felt that there was something lacking on the religious aspect.  It felt too modern, although it did work well within the story.  This was a small qualm, but did not make the book less enjoyable.
