The Glass Spare
The Glass Spare - Lauren DeStefano The Glass Spare - Lauren DeStefano 10th January 2017: Reason for adding to wishlist: Bit iffy about adding, and I may change my mind at any time. Enjoyed the author's first trilogy. Haven't read her second trilogy (though it's on my wishlist). Decided to skip her middle grade books (MG books don't suit me). On the downside, I was told off for sharing pre-order links for her novellas in the past. That was weird.

Another dystopian teen meh
Wither (Chemical Garden) - Lauren DeStefano

It wasn't BAD. It wasn't good in any different or outstanding way either. Too many of it's type crowding the shelves, and some of them are decidedly better.

There were some nice bits on the relative strengh of the realtionships betweend sister wives and wife and husband, and there was some ring of truth in the blurriness between a self preserving act, compassion and true caring.

Most lacked any meat for me, and since it was set up as a first volume and little else, it did little to satisfy me in any respect unless I choose to follow up, and I really don't intend to.

"We are witnessing something beyond what we've been taught to imagine."
Burning Kingdoms - Lauren DeStefano

I will gladly admit that this second installment was better than the first book. I really enjoyed reading on with the story of Morgan and her friends, as they try to find their place on the ground. It was really funny reading about their reactions to things we all consider normal, like rain. Living in a floating piece of earth had its privileges after all!

There is no train framing this city. There is no limit. It could well go on forever, to a horizon it would take ten lifetimes to run to.

So, "Burning Kingdoms" picks the story from the end of book one, with our survivors landing safely into the strange world of "the ground". However, they are soon disappointed, when they find out that the people there are no less cruel and oppressive than their own. That world felt relatively close to our modern society with cars and planes, cinemas, hotels and amusement parks, with the exception of royalty. The people from "the floating island" were welcomed on the ground, even though they arrived in the middle of a war. New relationships are formed and we find out more about the now familiar characters of Morgan, Lex, Pen and Celeste. The friendship between Pen and Morgan is one of my favorites on these series and I like the way DeStefano plays the romance card: it's subtle and not annoying. The hinting of a potential love triangle is a bit worrying but I trust it will work itself out in the end.

I already picked the last book of the series and I don't like the foreshadowing break of the china couple on the cover..

The Internment Chronicles Book 3 & Finale...
Broken Crowns - Lauren DeStefano

So I've finally reached the end...What can I say- Some of the ends I thought tied up nicely but then there were a lot of others that were left open that I would've liked to learn more about. Also I was really hoping for a different ending for two of my favorite characters, Basil and Morgan.  Really the author just needs to write another follow-up book featuring Internment & Havalais- 5 years later - then maybe I'll be satisfied. : )

The two novellas of the Internment Chronicles
No Intention of Dying (The Internment Chronicles Novella 1.5) - Lauren DeStefano
The Heir Apparent - Lauren DeStefano

No Intention of Dying (The Internment Chronicles Novella 1.5) - Lauren DeStefano

Daphne was a character whose presence haunted the characters on the first book of the trilogy.
This short story describes a scene from her past. She is one of my favorite characters, so I liked this short short novella!

The Heir Apparent (The Internment Chronicles Novella 2.5) - Lauren DeStefano

Azure, Celeste's brother is learning some secrets of his kingdom in this brief novella.

Beware that both stories are extremely short (around 10 pages)
