The Angel Experiment
The Angel Experiment - James Patterson

"Sometimes whether someone is your friend or enemy is all in how you look at it. But if you must know, I consider myself your friend, a good friend who loves you very much. No one loves you more than I do, Maximum. Now listen. I ask the questions, not you. You’re just here, and the Voice actually chuckled, for the ride. For the incredible, indescribable Maximum Ride."

With fast paced, action packed scenes, strong willed, witty, and funny characters, a good, and unbelievably unique and intriguing sci-fi fictional plot, that's basically the younger version of X-Men, just a whole lot better, and in book version; the first book of the maximum ride series; The Angel Experiment, definitely pulled me in. Really? It's hard not to love this book. With genetically engineered mutant kids with lots of different powers and wings, fighting against strong, notorious werewolf like creatures, damn... What’s not to like? I loved it from the first chapter.

Of course, though there were times were I didn't like Max, (She can get too self absorbed, at times); all the escapades and action scenes definitely made up for it. She was a brilliant narrator, and I enjoyed being in her mind. Angel, Iggy, and Gasman left great impressions on me too. But really, out of all the characters? I loved Nudge, with her bubbly personality, and Fang, with his quiet yet swoon worthy attitude the best. I ship them, yo.

But overall? This book was horrifyingly exciting, addicting, and I’d be damned if I won’t admit that I now have a new favorite book. The writing style was fresh, flowing and entertaining too. I’ve never really liked Sci-fi much, too begin with, (Aside from Viral Nation, Legend, and a few others, I’ve never really read much from the genre); but now I’m hooked. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books. In my opinion, it deserves a rating higher than five stars, but Oh well. (5 Stars)

The Final Warning - James Patterson 4 stars for the action sequences and the penguins. I'm a sucker for penguins. But -1 star for getting lectured on how I'm destroying my own planet.So.....now we have James Patterson on his soapbox about global warming and humans being evil. Hm....I bet it's easy to say all this from his mansion! But I digress. Anyway, I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series because they weren't so much about global warming as they were about 6 poor mutant kids trying to stay alive. It's clear he never intended to really write more than 3 books, but he decided to milk this franchise. Max is maddening in her jealousy over Fang to the point I could just slap her. But I adore Fang, for some sick reason. And I am eager to see what happens next. Note to James, I could have really done without the last 2 chapters being Max in front of Congress. CON-GRESS. Preaching about global warming. I know these books are written for all ages, starting at 10, but geez. I want to read a cool action book, not a pseudo-educational text book about hurricanes and flooding.

The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride Series #1)
The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride Series #1) - 3.5 stars Super powers, we have all wanted them at one time of another. The ability to fly, to just run off and be free and watch the world below us, if only for a while. Imagine having the ability to fly and not knowing what other ability might be store for you and being young….I mean really young and having no adult figure around for you to help you survive. Welcome to the world of James Patterson YA series which consists of six kids who have been kidnapped from a lab and are free among us. Why were they kidnapped? That is the question that they would like to know. But then again, how did they get into the lab in the first place is another question they ponder. Who has the answers and who can they trust? Every child hopes to have a loving family and where their loving families reside are mysteries that they frequently question and try to decipher. Life out of the lab is not bad for the six, if it were not for the Erasers. These wolf-like creatures seem to pop up and spell trouble for the flying six. Fights break out, blood gets shed and someone always gets wounded in these confrontations. It was exciting to see James Patterson breaking out into the YA section and I was excited read this book. One of my students was reading it and said it was good so I had to give it a try. The idea of a group of kids banding together and looking out for one another was intriguing. Everything that happened in the book, no matter how far off course the kids got from the task at hand, somehow they always came back together. The wolf-like creatures’ name “erasers” has me puzzled and perhaps further in the series the name will make more sense to me. There was plenty of action for YA readers and each character has its own unique talent and personality that makes the book come together. As a reader, I thought the middle of the book was a bit slow for me. I thought it gave me too many details in things, as a reader, I could have put in myself. The ending was smoother, left more to my imagination and the pace was much faster. That is why I rated it a 3.5.

MAX (Maximum Ride Series #5)
MAX (Maximum Ride Series #5) - After books 3&4 I was pretty skeptical but this was really good! I loved how she finally accepted Fang's affection and that fang turned down Dr. Brigid for her! They got some new cool powers and there's a new Evil gut named Mr.Chu and he kidnapped Max's mom! Oh noes we gotta go save her! And why are all these fish dieing?? Maybe cause of the Krelp. But what are those?!
