Reverie by Ryan La Sala
Reverie - Ryan La Sala

Kane Montgomery was recently in a car accident that left him with burns on his head and amnesia about the last few months of his life. The circumstances of the crash have him being investigated by local police and have him viewed askance by the other kids at school.

Things start getting weird when he returns to the site of the crash with his sister and is chased by a shadowy nightmare. He's then confronted by a non-gender-conforming therapist at the police station and given clues to a vast conspiracy involving the supernatural. Finally, he discovers that along with most of his recent memories, memories of his closest friends, including one going back most of his life, have been scrubbed out of his head and the heads of his family.

What is going on?

'Reverie' is not your average teen adventure-fantasy. This is a world where reality is becoming more subjective by the day, imagined worlds are coming true with dangerous results, and all of it is more queer than you ever dreamed was possible.

This book was an absolute delight. My only complaint is that there wasn't more time spent with the reveries and how this particular bent of magic works. I want more!

REVERIE BY: RYAN LA SALA
Reverie - Ryan La Sala

I was so excited about the premise of this book, and with a tag line like "Inception meets The Magicians" I was like I NEED THIS NOW. I was pumped to receive an ARC from Netgalley. While I did overall enjoy this book, it ended up being more of a mixed bag for me.

I really loved the idea of the reveries! Definitely a very cool, imaginative idea. They were often vivid and beautifully described. On the flip side I thought there were some aspects of them I wish was a little more fleshed out as I felt like the concept of them was an idea that was brought to life only 85% conceived. I'm not quite sure if this was intended as a standalone book or part of a series where it is intended to expand on the idea more thoroughly in the future.

The characters are another element that I really liked in a lot of way but felt like something was missing. They were 100% fabulous but I also found myself struggling to connect with them. Like a beautiful painting that's just a smidge too far away to fully appreciate. I loved the idea of them having powers too and how this ragtag team of wildly different people shared one important thing in common, being misunderstood and not really knowing where they fit in this world. I only wish that would have been expanded on more as the thing that brought them together. It felt like maybe the author was unsure on how to make that happen more organically and so it is just stated vaguely later that their powers were magically bestowed to them without them really understanding why or how. I think doing this another way could have helped connect me to them more. I wanted to see how they became a team, see the struggle to adjust to this wild thing happening to them and all around them, and see those connections and bonds being forged rather than just being told it was so because...magic.

All in all I think this is a unique imaginative story that is a lot of fun but missing a few pieces that would have really made it amazing.

I received an ARC of this book from Sourcebooks Fire via Netgalley and this is my honest review.

ARC REVIEW Reckless With You by Carrie Ann Ryan

Reckless With You (Less Than, #2)Less Than #2, We are back with the Carr siblings this time with Amelia the landscape architect. Everyone naturally assumed that Amelia and her best friend Tobey were dating, they weren't but Amelia wanted to change that. Unfortunately Tobey was not the man we had hoped to be, good thing Amelia has a wonderful support system in her family included in that her brother's best friend Tucker.

Tucker is hot, both men and women hit on him or just eye fucked him. He was fine with that he never had plans on getting married. After being raised in the foster system he had a hard time believing in anything permanent. Tucker always liked Amelia he never before let himself get to carried away by the attraction because his friendship with her brother but after what happened with Tobey and finding her drunk practically naked he's been thinking about her a lot more and not in the sisterly way either.

Tired of the pitying looks from her family and friends and to keep them from trying to set her up on a blind date she blurts out she dating already and the first name that comes out her mouth, Tucker. Tucker does not like lying to her family so they keep as close to the truth as possible but it doesn't take long before their fake relationship is real and by the time the emotions are running deep the other shoe drops but not like how you would think.

Overall, a fantastic read. It surprised me the direction she went with this but it was a good surprise. I love Tucker one of the things I enjoy about these books is how normal these people are with normal jobs; Tucker is a radiologist, Devin is postman (I keep expecting a postman always rings twice joke). They are amazing people who have learned to love despite their parents. Carrie Ann Ryan is a wonderful wordsmith with a knack for emotion, you feel for her characters, hurt when they hurt, laugh when they laugh, you root for them you want them to be happy and get their HEA. I am very much looking forward to Shameless With Him, it's about time for Zoey's story.

Reckless With You (Less Than, #1) by: Carrie Ann Ryan
Reckless With You (Less Than, #2) - Carrie Ann Ryan

The pain of first love proves an eye-opening experience for two bruised hearts that never even had a clue. Ryan casts a spell over your heart that is gut-wrenching, awkward and tempting. Amelia and Tucker have both been let down by life and love. A painful life lesson puts everything they thought they knew at risk. Falling in love puts them on the cusp of something wonderful, if they don't let fear of the unknown get in the way. Reckless with You turns heartache in hope. Sexy meets sensitive and loves becomes human.

ARC REVIEW Born to be a Cowboy by R.C. Ryan

Born to Be a Cowboy (Montana Strong, #3)Montana Strong #3, We are back one last time with the Monroes. It can be read as a standalone but I enjoyed the series as a whole. Finn Monroe a small town lawyer part time cowboy wasn't alway lucky to have this family, after the death of both parents the brothers were split up in foster care where they each had a hard time making each of the boys foulmouthed troublemakers. When they ran away they lucked out and found Mac Monroe's ranch. Mac knew how they felt he gave them a home and taught them what it was like to have a loving home environment. It was also the influence of Zachariah that Finn grew up to be a lawyer.

When Jessica walks into Finns office he knows better than to believe what she says right off the back. Her Aunt, the woman who raised her, is missing. The last she heard from her she had ran off and got married and was going on her honeymoon. That isn't like her Aunt at all for as long as she been with her Aunt she's has been married to her ranch. Then when the  PI she hired, a former FBI agent died in an accident right after calling her to tell he he found something she knew her suspicions were right but nobody believed her. Finn wants to believe her something about her story rings true but it isn't until after he does some checking on his own that he fully believes her especially after the motel she was staying at and her rental car catch on fire after talking to Finn. Finn brings her home to the ranch at least there there will be someone with her at all times. But this goes deeper than just Jessica's aunt and Finn stirs up a whole lot of trouble.

I loved the relationship between Fin and Jessica. Finn has a strong work ethic and initially didn't want to get involved with a client but something about Jessica wants him to bend his own rules for once. Jessica feels guilty over what happened to her aunt thinking it never would have happened if she had still been living on the ranch, and now she's willing to risk her own happiness to make sure her aunt is never vulnerable again. Overall, it was a great read. I love R.C. Ryan's attention to detail and her descriptions for me, someone who has never been to Montana, it makes me want to visit all the same time feel like I'm already there while I read it. I love the familial relationship this whole family is wonderful.
