The Marine's Queen (Recon Marines, #1) by Susan Kelley Review
The Marine's Queen - Susan Kelley

Queen Callie Adell’s enemies want her for the secret elixir only her bloodline can produce. She flees an abduction attempt and lands in the arms of the most feared military man in the universe. Recon Marine Captain Joe, a genetically enhanced soldier, knows little of civilian life or of women. But his body knows what it wants from Callie even if his mind suffers mostly confusion in her presence.

Joe’s sense of honor and duty demands he protect the queen even if she can never overlook his unnatural origins and love him as a man. But neither of them can ever be safe if Callie doesn’t protect Joe from those who want to destroy him as much as her enemies wish to capture her. Only if she can civilize her marine will the world accept him as more than a living weapon. But can Callie convince Joe that he’s a man first, her man, and a marine second?

Review

I like the survival aspect of this romance. The hero is wonderful. The heroine... not so much. She waffles so very much. She goes back to her prejudice point of view constantly treating the hero as less than human.

The plot is interesting enough but it is drawn out and not balenced with the romance as much as it should be.

So, not a great read for me.

Vacation is a bad word!
Ball & Chain - Abigail Roux

This is book # 8 in the Cust & Run series.  This story takes us back to Tyler Grady and Zane Garrett moving on with their lives.  In this book, Tyler's brother Deacon gets married to Livi and they go to a private island in Scotland for the nuptials.

Livi's parents are loaded and own the private island they are staying on.  They want a small, quiet wedding since their family is getting a bunch of death threats that have increased since Deacon's daughter was born.  It starts with a man who is more than he seems - and he dies right before the wedding.

Zane and Tyler have brought Nick and Kelly.  (You may remember them from Ty's military days or from reading the Sidewinder series.)  Since they are there to help keep the family safe, they might as well help solve a murder, right?

It soon becomes clear that there are several guests and local islanders that are hiding much about their lives and professions.  This mystery may be more than the boys can handle.  Good thing they brought extra hands!

Terrific character development and more than a bit of a weave to the story in this book.  If you love history, destination weddings, and amazing children - well your going to love this book as much as I did!  I give it a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Cannot get enough of this series!
Touch & Geaux - Abigail Roux

This book continues with Cut & Run series book # 7. Zane Garrett & Tyler Grady are still partners in the FBI.  They visit New Orleans and their friends for a birthday celebration that turns deadly.  It takes us into backstory for Ty and Zane and gives us more insight to their characters.

Zane is thinking about retiring and wondering where to go with his future with Ty.  They are both puzzled as to what to do about their future as a couple.  Then Ty gets a distress call from his best friend, Nick.

Once in New Orleans, the boys end up protecting a crime scene for a murder and it all goes down hill from there.  Ty has old enemies in this town, and is worried he will cause more trouble than help.  The boys do their best to solve what seems like a clever crime.

Threats seem to be everywhere and come from all over.  The guys try to stay together to protect one another and it soon becomes clear the case is nothing like it seems.  It takes a whole lot of smarts and men with the talents to figure this one out.

Ty and Zane end up learning more about one another and it is a testimony to their feelings to one another that they can work through all they do.  Zane discovers he really does not know much about Ty, and vice versa.  Can they survive the secrets?

Once again I am amazed and pulled into a book full of love, mystery, amazing characters, witty banter and more history about an amazing city.  I recommend this book and give it a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
