Waiting for Wednesday #16 - Big Mushy Happy Lump: A Sarah's Scribbles Collection
Big Mushy Happy Lump: A Sarah's Scribbles Collection - Sarah Andersen

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted @BreakingtheSpine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Vassa in the Night

Synopsis: Sarah Andersen's hugely popular, world-famous Sarah's Scribbles comics are for those of us who boast bookstore-ready bodies and Netflix-ready hair, who are always down for all-night reading-in-bed parties and extremely exclusive after-hour one-person music festivals.
In addition to the most recent Sarah's Scribbles fan favorites and dozens of all-new comics, this volume contains illustrated personal essays on Sarah's real-life experiences with anxiety, career, relationships and other adulthood challenges that will remind readers of Allie Brosh's Hyperbole and a Half and Jenny Lawson's Let's Pretend This Never Happened. The same uniquely frank, real, yet humorous and uplifting tone that makes Sarah's Scribbles so relatable blooms beautifully in this new longer form.

So after a month of absence my pick for this week is "Big Mushy Happy Lump: A Sarah's Scribbles Collection" by Sarah Andersen.

Expected Publication: Mar 7th 2017

I loved the previous collection Sarah Andersen released and can't wait for this one!

Waiting for Wednesday #15 - Little Nothing
Little Nothing - Marisa Silver

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted @BreakingtheSpine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Vassa in the Night

In an unnamed country at the beginning of the last century, a child called Pavla is born to peasant parents. Her arrival, fervently anticipated and conceived in part by gypsy tonics and archaic prescriptions, stuns her parents and brings outrage and disgust from her community. Pavla has been born a dwarf, beautiful in face, but as the years pass, she grows no further than the edge of her crib. When her parents turn to the treatments of a local doctor and freak sideshow proprietor, his terrifying cure opens the floodgates persecution for Pavla. Little Nothing unfolds across a lifetime of unimaginable, magical transformation in and out of human form, as this outcast woman is hunted down and incarcerated for her desires, her body broken and her identity stripped away until her soul is strong enough to transcend all physical bounds. Woven throughout is the journey of Danilo, the young man entranced by Pavla, obsessed only with protecting her.

Part allegory about the shifting nature of being, part subversive fairy tale of love in all its uncanny guises, Little Nothing spans the beginning of a new century, the disintegration of ancient superstitions and the adoption of industry and invention. With a cast of remarkable characters, a wholly shocking and original story, and extraordinary, page-turning prose, Silver delivers a novel of sheer electricity

This week's pick is "Little Nothing" by Marisa Silver.

Expected Publication: September 13th 2016

The blurb sounds very unique. I've already got a copy from first reads and I can't wait to read it as soon as it's available (july 28th).

Waiting for Wednesday #14 - The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo
The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo - Amy Schumer

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted @BreakingtheSpine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Vassa in the Night

Synopsis: From award-winning comedian, writer, producer, and actress Amy Schumer comes The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, a thoughtful, honest, and hysterical collection of (very) personal essays. Never one to shy away from the uproarious, challenging, and remarkable moments that make up life, this exceptionally candid book will have readers wincing with recognition, nodding their head in solidarity, and laughing out loud.
Written with Amy’s signature candor, she reflects on her often raucous childhood antics, her hard won and incomparable rise to comedic stardom, and the courage it takes to approach the world with astounding honesty every single day. Surely the most anticipated collection of the year, Amy shines bright as a friend, daughter, and sister, unforgettable comedian, and most notably, a masterful (and always entertaining) storyteller.

So after a month of absence my pick for this week is "The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo" by Amy Schumer.

Expected Publication: Aug 16th 2016

I think Amy is hilarious and I'm looking forward to both the book and the audiobook, because let's face it: memoirs read by the authors are so much better from reading the book only! So until Jennifer Lawrence narrates any audiobook really, I'm looking forward to Amy's audiobook.

Vassa in the Night

Synopsis:When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl.
