You know that moment...the one where things can be saved or lost...
Trusting Cade (Custos Securities #1) - Luna David,Tristan James

This one probably ended up closer to 2.5 than 3 stars for me but there's no 1/2 stars here and I'm not feeling like I want to split hairs so I'm calling it a day at 3 stars.

For the most part this one was ok and I liked it. Tristan James was the narrator so no problems there as far as I'm concerned. Mr. James is one of those narrators who never fails to provide me with an enjoyable audio experience when it comes to the audio portion of things.

As for the story there were two issues that really dragged this story down for me...the first one was the insta-love and folks we are talking insta-love here. This was probably one of the fastest cases of love at first sight on record. It whipped by so fast that it feels like I've got a case of whiplash which resulted in the fact that for me the connection just wasn't there.

There were a couple of times when Cade felt like Braden didn't have as much faith in him as he should and Cade was all "You should know by now..." and there sits me going "He should know what by now? He's had the relationship from hell and it's still stalking him, he's known you for 5 f*ing minutes and you think he should know what? That you're the end all, be all of boyfriends?" sorry but I think Cade needed to get over himself a little.

My second issue was in regards to the events that transpired when they were searching for Braden...I've already had my little rant about that in an earlier comment so for now I'm just going to say that 'not only was it unbelievable at times it was also laughable' and not in a good way. This should have been a very dramatic and pivotal point in the story. It was the perfect chance for the author to make, what was until then an average story into something better...it was the the moment when things could have been saved or lost...unfortunately for me it was the moment when things were well and truly lost and the story became locked in as being less than the solid 3 stars that it was until that point.

Now having said all of that I'm off to the second part of Cade and Braden's story in 'Protecting Braden' so there's still a chance for the author to win me back. I'm willing to keep an open mind and she's already got a point in her favor because this one is also narrated by Tristan James...so, I know it's a win for the narration but I'll just have to wait and see how the story goes.

Anna James is single again, finally. In her opinion, men are self-centered and will never love her for who she is, a beautiful, plus sized woman. All except the fantasy man that she’s been meeting in her dreams for five years. She just never expected her fantasy to be a real live alpha shifter...

Cade Le Beau isn't what he seems. He’s a billionaire wolf. A Shifter. He laments his missed chance six months ago to meet his fantasy woman in the flesh. Just as his second chance presents itself, his fantasy woman, his mate, is threatened by the local mob boss and her ex-husband. Now, he has forty eight hours to deal with this threat once and for all or chance losing her again.

Is it Anna who’s in danger, or the humans who unwittingly threaten her?
The heat is on the moment they lay eyes on each other. Neither, age, children, horrid ex-husbands, nor mob bosses will stop this love affair.

A Town Like Ours- Alexander Cade

Satire; this sketch on life is dripping with it. Factually, there are no unflawed, boringly normal, characters in the entire and wide cast of this book. Every one of them is easily mockable. The page to page writing is very good, the story so ridiculous though so human that you sort of know that all the elements are plausible and common, though rarely if ever so concentrated even in one small backwater on the road from and to only marginally less isolated nowhere.

The writing is well enough structured that the reading is effortless and entertaining. Description is crisp and focused. Characters are all individualistic enough to be remembered or, if we have been distracted, to be easily reminded of in one or two clear phrases. One comic pratfall flows effortlessly into the next, so that I could not help but find myself in the final chapters almost before I knew what a totally ridiculous ride Cade was taking me on. There we come to what is for me the only weakness in the book, the lack of climatic resolution, the looseness of the final knitting. Does that matter in such a book? Probably not. This isn’t a thriller that desperately needs conclusion, it is more of a wry look at the ridiculousness, the small mindedness, the gullible incompetence that we all occasionally suffer from, and most especially those arrogant individuals that think they never do.

Trusting Cade (Custos Securities #1) by Luna David
Trusting Cade (Custos Securities #1) - Luna David,Book Cover by Design

Trusting Cade is the first book in the Custos Securities series, and also the first book by this author I have read.

We start off with Cade, who is feeling dissatisfied with his personal life. His best friend takes him to task, telling him he needs someone completely different from himself, and as luck would have it, fate drops someone into his lap (not literally!) Bradan is a diabetic runner and baker who is having stalking issues. His business partner is Cade's best friend's sister, so there you have the link. They have insta-lust, with promises of forever pretty much straight away. Bradan's stalker has other ideas though.

This was an easy, but long, read with no real surprises along the way. In some respects, although the storyline is full of hard issues, it was all too easy! Cade figures out who the stalker is immediately, although he isn't able to find him. As stated by other reviewers, some of the conversations are a bit stilted, and definitely don't sound like 'normal' conversations. However, as a first book, I found it to be enjoyable, and would definitely read more by this author.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *
