Traveling Light
Traveling Light - Lynne Branard

Winning the bid for an unclaimed storage unit wasn't Alissa's favorite prize, but what she found inside actually changed her life.

Alissa works for a local newspaper in North Carolina owned by her father and impulsively decides that she is going to take a road trip to New Mexico to return Roger Hart's ashes that were in the storage unit to his family.

Alissa begins her journey with the ashes and her dog. When she stops at a restaurant and meets Blossom, her road trip and her life have an added passenger and some added changes.

TRAVELING LIGHT is a sweet, lighthearted read and a read that will make you think about your own life and decisions you make and have made.

I enjoyed Alissa because she was a good person, and I really enjoyed Blossom. Blossom had the perfect name because she just brightened up any place she was and helped Alissa see her life in a different perspective.

TRAVELING LIGHT is a book to read when you need to be uplifted, when you need to hear good comments about mankind, and when you just need a change of pace that comes with beautiful, descriptive writing and marvelous characters.

Enjoy TRAVELING LIGHT if you read it. It even has some sweet romances included. :)

5/5

This book was given to me free of charge and without compensation by the publisher in return for an honest review.

The Art of Arranging Flowers by Lynne Branard
The Art of Arranging Flowers - Lynne Branard
The Art of Arranging Flowers by Lynne Branard (who also has written books under Lynne Hinton) is a book that gladly surprised me. From the beautiful pink flower filled cover, I thought it was going to be a typical light romance novel, but the story twisted and turned in directions I didn't expect. And also, the story had much more depth than what the cover of the book makes it look like.

To me The Art of Arranging Flowers is mainly a story about: familial, friendly, spiritual and romantic love. A story of how people with different backgrounds and ages can bond in the most unusual circumstances, with bonds that are as strong as steel. A story of how love is a choice, who you choose to love is your choice, not just something magical or fairy tale-ish that just happens if you are lucky. It’s your choice to love and be happy.

The book also deals with death in various aspects and how to cope with it. It also touches the subject of forgiveness, amongst friends and loved ones and self-forgiveness; how it cannot be achieved until we have in some way made amends with those we’ve injured or thought we’ve injured.

The only thing I regret from this book is that I wish I had more knowledge of flowers, as they are described in this book with such wonderful detail. It would definitely help me visualize the story better knowing how the flowers referenced in this book look like.

After having had a bad time reading a couple of tedious and pointless books, this was just the reading oasis my mind needed. The Art of Arranging Flowers is a charming story. It's so different from what you expect it to be. Clearly defines the phrase never judge a book by its cover in a very good way. Flowers throughout the story gave it such wonderful colors and the end gave me complete closure.

The Art of Arranging Flowers is a good read. The reading guide at the end of the book is a good tool for book clubs. I recommend it for those who are in the mood for a feel good story. It is a fast paced book to read that will definitely brighten up and color you book shelf.

For more of my thoughts on the plot read the full review on my blog.

June Round Up
Beneath a Meth Moon - Jacqueline Woodson
The Beet Fields - Gary Paulsen
Emma - Jane Austen,Fiona Stafford
Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson
Big Fish - Daniel Wallace
Cinderella's Dress (Entangled Teen) - Shonna Slayton
The Silver Linings Playbook - Matthew Quick
The Art of Arranging Flowers - Lynne Branard
We Are the Goldens - Dana Reinhardt We Are the Goldens - Dana Reinhardt
Strangers on a Train - Patricia Highsmith

So I am actually VERY happy with the reading that I've done in June! It's been a crazy busy month, with moving and the wedding, but I've somehow managed to read 10 books, including 2 books that I hadn't actively planned to read and every single book on my June TBR list except for Where Angels Fear to Tread, and that's just because it's not in at my new library yet. And, even better, most of these books were really awesome! Great reading month.

I think that my favorite book this month would have to be We are the Goldens, with Treasure Island very close behind. If you haven't read We are the Goldens yet and you're a fan of YA literature, I highly recommend checking that out - it's very well-written and it was just published last month. I'd recommend Treasure Island to just about anyone. It's a great adventure story and a wonderful introduction to classic literature if you're new to it. The book that I struggled with the most this month was definitely The Art of Arranging Flowers, not because the book itself was bad, but because I received a really awful galley copy. I'm going to be revisiting the book in July once it comes to my library.

What were your favorite books this month? Have you read any of the books I read in June?
